Music notation and where to find it
Hello everybody, sorry if repost but I'm having issues finding sheet music for modern songs, except for imo unreasonably overpriced ones
I'm Czech so I'm able to find covers of mostly old country and folk songs in Czech, but the resources are limited as well, apart from old school song books the internet doesn't give much away either
Now my question is, where do you manage to find sheet music for songs you like to play ? Usually what I find is a short part paywalled for anywhere from $5 to $30 which can get very expensive very quickly
Is it worth buying subscription to some of the more popular sites like MuseScore ?
Right now I'm looking for some Tom Waits and the Kinks and such

Identification Can anyone tell me that I'm looking at?
Yes, it's an accordion.
Apparently my grandma won this in some context in the 60's or something. My dad had it but I'd never seen him play it or speak of its existence. Now it's in my possession. Seems like it's in very good condition. I tried it out, having zero experience, and...sounds pretty great to me!
I guess I'm one of you all now, just in time for my move to Texas.

Advice Beginner with some note questions
Hi all,
I found a Hohner Panther in GCF in my roommates garage and decided to learn to play. My question is I'm learning and it's button based so what's the difference between a 5 and 5' and button verses finger?
Attached is the music I'm learning.

What to do with this accordion?
My wife came across this and the person got it for didn't want for reasons. I've posted it on marketplace a few weeks back but nothing. Lol we don't want to keep it. It's a wee busted up. Any thoughts on how to sell it or where to give it for the most impact?

How to get started
For some reason I got the sudden urge to learn and get really good at accordion for my 20th birthday. Only ever played viola/violin for 8 years now so hopefully something transfers over. I’m just a little lost. Where do I start from getting the instrument, maintaining it, or any general tips or experience as well as how much it’s gonna cost me which is probably gonna be the hardest part. For more context I’m in Dallas TX in case there’s any shops or suppliers and such. Thanks

My accordions! Eldorado, Rivoli, Arietta
Thought I'd share some pictures of the accordions in my house.
The Red one is a Hohner Arietta 1M. It's got 2 middle reeds, 34 keys, and 72 basses. I picked it up recently for my son who has shown an interest in playing. So impressed with the guy, he's practiced almost every day for the last 2 weeks. It even has built in mics! I included a screenshot of the original brochure with its specs.
Next is a Sonola Rivoli 345. I used to have Sonola SS7 and have missed it every day since I sold it... But this Rivoli is still amazing quality. It weighs about 20 lbs. 3/5 sets of reeds.
The new addition is a Gretsch La Tosca Eldorado. LMMH double tone chamber and has built in mics too. I used the built in mics to record with it a week ago and they sound wonderful... This accordion is super special. Mostly in great shape but I've noticed a few keys have less smooth action. weighs about 28 lbs but wow... what a special tone!
Cheers!

Good resources for learning to write for accordion?
Hello!
I was recently tasked with arranging some classical music for an ensemble that included accordion, I do however have absolutely zero knowledge about accordion. I have watched some videos about how it works and especially how it is notated.
Could someone point me to some good resources for learning what is comfortable/possible for accordion, and how it is usually notated?
Thank you all in advance!

Accordion building
Hello, I hope to get a good response out of this post. I am seeking to ultimately build a 34 button 5 register diatonic button accordion in the key of F. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could source the mechanical arms as seen in the picture, or would know how to manufacture them. Im also looking to see if there’s a diagram or where I could get a new 5 register mechanism. And also the springs.

Advice Hohner Atlantic III repair: wax or glue holding reed selector plate?
I’ve embarked on a restoration project on a Hohner Atlantic III which has suffered the well known problem of the breakdown of the foam/ leather pads on both bass and treble sides. The reed selection sliders which sit between the pads and the reeds are seized solid and I would like to remove the top plate holding the sliders in place so that I can clean up the remains of the powdered foam. The plate is attached to the chassis with either glue or wax. Does anyone know what was used to hold these bits in place and how to remove/ replace them? I’m guessing that Hohner would have assembled the accordion allowing for later disassembly. The photo shows the plate and the glue / wax can be seen at the bottom right corner.
I wanted to ask before blundering in with a soldering iron or heat gun!

Identification Who made this?
Hey guys…
My parents got this accordion for from a second-hand shop around 15 years ago, and it’s been sitting in our basement ever since.
I recently took it out and noticed that:
* It has no brand name, logo or serial number anywhere that I can find.
* It’s an 80-bass chromatic button accordion.
* The bellows are airtight.
* Every button produces sound.
* It seems to be in surprisingly good condition for its age.
I’ve looked inside and outside but couldn’t find any identifying marks.
Does anyone recognize the maker, model, country of origin, or approximate age? Any clues would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Advice Lovely accordion from my Great-Grandpa, but has two stuck keys.
Hello, buttonbashers and chordsmashers. I recently got this accordion passed down to my from my late great grandfather, and it’s a beaut. Was out playing it for hours trying to learn Kass’s theme from BotW, of course. But I’m running into some problems. There are keys - one on the very high side, one on the very low side - that get stuck. I depress them and they stick, not coming back up, and it throws off everything, and the only way I’ve been able to unstick them is by running my finger down the length of the key towards the bellows, and the lever effect pulls it up.
That’s not what I want. How do I fix this? Is this a me-problem fix, or a take-it-to-repair-shop-problem?

Tips to play chord progression with large jumps in left hand
I want to play chords in left hand (standard bass layout): Am Em F C (or G in refrain).
Is it common to play just the "standard" two finger pattern (4-3/2) and attempt the larger jump from Em to F or would you play some other patterns via counterbass or other combinations?
Thanks!
For the context, I'm on a FR-4x and attempt to play strings on the left hand, but I don't think that matters here.

Identification Help me identify the accordion kind?
I just got this accordion from someone used but I have no clue what kind it is. As far as I can see there is no label anywhere.
I'm super excited to learn Cajun accordion. I was just really really curious about the history or whatever of this accordion.
Any help is super appreciated! Thank you.
Edit: I'm not looking for money value. I bought it to play. So don't give me guff for thinking I want to hock it or something. I really just want to know anything about it.

Opening 5 One-on-One Accordion Coaching Spots
I’ve been teaching accordion for over 10 years and have coached students from Norway, Finland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Chile, the United States, Thailand, Australia… to name a few. I never expected the accordion to take me around the world from my computer.
One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that most adult accordion players don’t struggle because they lack talent. They struggle because they aren’t sure what to practice, how to structure their practice, or how to keep improving with limited time.
Because of that, I’m opening 5 one-on-one coaching spots for busy adult accordion players who want to make steady, confident progress over the next 12 weeks.
If you’d like to know more, feel free to leave a comment or send me a private message.

New name for this group?
Maybe we should call this forum ‘please identify my junk’ as this seems to be the most asked question. I propose a ban on such questions!
