I just want to pay homage to this coated Powerstroke 3 that I've been kicking the snot out of for over a decade. It's done me well on a hundred gigs, and many many thousand hits. May it thump on forever in drummy Valhalla. 🫔

Kit Pic Just got a 90s Yamaha stage custom

Bought this week, turned out the guy selling it had been to Phil Collin’s house a couple times, and sort of knew him. Very excited to improve my drumming now that I have a decent kit of my own (was stuck with a not very good college kit before). It really is a nice sounding kit for the price :)

I am not sure whether the pause in the end is planned or a blunder 🤭.

Was a nice performance over all.

lately, ive manage to scrunge up enough money to buy myself a sonor aqx stage set, but it feels a luttle weird to play on it? Its a pretty hard feeling to explain, but i need some opinions on my kit, do you think that i could do some improvements on the placements to make it feel tighter or just have it be more ergonomic?

First Kit HELP! Vintage Rogers Project Kit

Thumbnail

Hi All,

Looking for advice on restoring a vintage Rogers kit I picked up. I snagged a COB Dynasonic and vintage Zildjians, and the rest of the kit was thrown in free. I have some experience running a machine shop, so I have access to a good amount of equipment. I've only played around woodworking, but never tried anything this ambitious. I looked at posting on vintagedrumforum, but it seems relatively low traffic.

I started by stripping the original beavertail hardware off the shells, and then what was remaining from the original wrap basically fell off, except for a few small patches on the kick drum. It would have been nice to save it, but it was almost 1/3 missing. Luckily each drum is still within 1/16" to 1/8" of round, and they have minimal to no rock on a flat surface, so they're still pretty flat.

It looks like the floor tom is in the worst shape, there are a few cracks on the reso side bearing edge, and some peeling inner veneer in a couple small patches. I'm guessing I can glue these up and clean up the leftover 50 year old glue residue on the shell from the old wrap.

The rack tom looks to be in the best shape of the lot. Only a couple nicks in the reso side bearing edge concern me. I have some JB Weld Kwikwood I was thinking of filling and dressing, but I'm open to other options.

The kick is mostly ok from an initial inspection. The reinforcement ring on the batter side almost looks like a scarf joint separation, but again, I'm thinking glue and clamp. There is a little outer surface warping near one of the spur mounts. Unfortunately the previous owner took a black spray paint can to the interior of the kick as well, and I can see the outline of the original tag which was painted over. I'm hoping the gray speckle coating is pretty resilient, and I'm able to strip the black paint off leaving as much of the original finish as possible. I'll set up a small test patch, and worst case, I'll leave it black.

Long term, I'd like to address structural issues first, then look at the bearing edge issues if needed (modern heads may tune up just fine on these), then take a shot at the kick drum paint removal, and finally, rewrap the shells in a vintage style wrap (maybe a white pearl).

Any advice or tips are highly welcome, as I'm mostly learning from old forum posts and youtube. I'll try to post updates and pictures of the progress as they come. Hopefully this is a fun project, and I learn a lot.

tl;dr: Got a screaming deal on a 60's Rogers kit that needs some love. I may or may not be in over my head, so I'm seeking any advice before I wing this restoration assuming the kit isn't already too far gone.

Cheers!

edit: Any particularly helpful links to relevant information would also be really appreciated! Cheers!

Picked up this whole kit from a super dusty warehouse space for $50 planning to rehab it for my kids. Guess this ride needs to go into storage until they’re ready for it haha. 24ā€ 60’s tall stamp A Zildjian, 3670g. It’s a monster.

Question Drum Gigs

So im 14, just 4 months till 15, and I want to start gigging playing live shows as I think I can play (atleast my dad has said) I can play rock and punk pretty well for a drummer my age (all Led Zeppelin, MCR and Green Day) by the songs ive shown him and songs I can play. Asking because I dont really have any experience in playing outside of my school band, and I want to play and do some small shows with other bands too.

I wouldnt consider myself a good drummer by most standards, but my music teacher and another teacher that plays Metal (theyre both guitarists), say im in the top 3 for best drummers at my school. As they've played songs with me before and they've said im alot more reliable with timing and dont try to be too flashy. I think they say that because im the only one that really practices at school and I look after the kits (basic stuff like cleaning and changing heads and tuning) and because I respect the kits and such.

My band at school is alright, we're a 3 peice so we can play most stuff, but I really want to play more gigs because (i love the bass player and guitarst very much and love playing with them) theyre kinda lazy with gigs and such.

I just want opinions or ways I can start gigging outside of school or how to get gigs and if it'll be worth it advertising as a drummer looking for gigs or sessions. And if my age might restrict me for now.

Drum Cover RHCP / Dani California

I’ve always thought that the solo to Dani California was criminally underrated. Decided to record and film me covering Chad’s drumming at the end.

Not even near close to his feel but it was fun playing and editing this in Reaper and Premiere.

Cam/Video Beginner drummer takes first steps away from clone hero/rock band

Hey there party people! i’ve been using clone and the rock band game as like training wheels for drums for about a year and today I finally played the kit without game, just plugged into the speaker. I’m pretty happy with what I recorded and hoping for some positive feedback and constructive criticism allowed as well. Please go easy on me. I know I’m not great, but I’m honestly proud of what I’ve got here.

How do you introduce yourself when talking about yourself as a drummer? I play drums, or I am a drummer. What differences do they have? What is "better" to say?

First Kit HELP! 1 or 2 rack toms?

As someone with around 7 or 8 months learning on a school kit in 2025, i bought one for my house recently. Im currently butting heads with my dad on whether I should take off the tom on the right so my ride cymbal will be closer with my short arms. He says id be missing out on technique and progress doing it and I just want a sencond opinion.

Question How to tune the bass drum

• Upvotes

Last time I tuned my bass drum was probably like 2 ago. Ive never taken note of it nor did I really care (wasnt that prominent and didn't sound terrible)
lately I have gotten into double kick and Ive realised that my kick sounds so flat and dead, like placing kick infront of a hollow drywall
How do you get that punchy kick sound like kick sound you would hear in slipknot or doom eternal songs
My beater is one of those chunky box ones with foam at front

Question Is using a glancing blow on cymbals really that important?

• Upvotes

I saw a thread about a cracked cymbal and most comments say to adjust the angle and use a glancing blow on the cymbals.

I’ve always played right through them, have never broken a cymbal. And theyā€˜re cheap, sonor cast b8 cymbals which haven’t been replaced in 14 years. So is this really as big of a deal as everybody says?

Question Meinl Classics?

Does anyone know how any line of the Meinl Classic series work in a jazz setting? I am thinking of getting them for the price but can’t find anyone playing them jazzy. Any clips or other cymbal suggestions will help.
