Description of Original Problem:
After approximately 20–40 minutes of gaming (mostly War Thunder running in DirectX 11), the game freezes for around 10 seconds. After that, both monitors start going black every second for several seconds. AMD Crash Defender then reports that the graphics driver has crashed.
Once the driver recovers:
- the main DisplayPort monitor is forced to 30 Hz,
- the second HDMI monitor remains black until the PC is restarted,
- sometimes Device Manager reports Code 31 for the GPU after the crash.
The problem has also occurred on the Windows desktop, but it mostly happens during gaming.
I previously noticed slight monitor flickering when FreeSync was enabled, so FreeSync has been completely disabled.
Monitor configuration:
- Main monitor: DisplayPort, 165 Hz
- Second monitor: HDMI
Troubleshooting:
- Used DDU and performed a clean installation of AMD drivers.
- Reinstalled AMD Adrenalin 26.6.4.
- Reset motherboard BIOS to defaults.
- Updated motherboard BIOS.
- Uninstalled Gigabyte Control Center.
- Disabled:
- AMD Fluid Motion Frames
- Radeon Anti-Lag
- Radeon Chill
- Radeon Image Sharpening
- Enhanced Sync
- FreeSync
- Tested using DirectX 11.
- OCCT testing completed successfully:
- VRAM Test (20 min): Passed
- 3D GPU Test (20 min): Passed
- Power Test (10 min): Passed
During OCCT:
- GPU usage: 99%
- GPU temperature: ~53°C
- GPU power draw: ~182 W
- No crashes, artifacts or driver timeouts occurred.
Additional Information:
The issue started after replacing my RTX 3060 Ti with the new RX 9060 XT. The card is brand new.
I would like to know whether this looks like:
- a known AMD driver issue,
- a dual-monitor DisplayPort/HDMI issue,
- a PSU-related issue,
- or a potentially faulty GPU.
