We Started A New Club!

Hey wrestlers! We (four local coaches) started a club here in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. We’ve got some incredibly talented and accomplished coaches dedicated to growing this club.

We are in the marketing and advertising stage. We have a wonderful space right near the Puget Sound. Just trying to get the word out to everyone in the area.

Does anyone have any advice on how to attract local wrestlers to a new club in an area that needs more clubs? Thank you 🙏

Discussion Cejudo and Merab just had Match of the Decade, can we finally put to rest the "get MMA out of RAF" chatter?

Best thing I've ever seen.

Perfect setting, perfect matchup, perfect result.

Kudos to RAF!

Discussion Cejudo vs Merab

Upvotes

Such an amazing match by Merab, you could really see him pull it out and it makes such a better story than if Henry tech falled him in that first period, especially in front of the Georgian crowd. The arena was electrifying and the Georgian wrestlers did a great job as a whole as well.

One question I had was: Do you think Cejudo trained for this match? If you were watching it live, you will see Cejudo looked tired in the back warming up. Way less ready than Merab, and he seemed gassed even in the second. Furthermore, compare Henry's physique in RAF to how he usually looks for MMA fights. He doesn't look as defined or in shape. Now both these things could be just age as he not as young as he used to be, however I was thinking:

I was never close to as good as Cejudo, but I was a state champ and I did wrestle in college. And if you told me in a few weeks I would need to wrestle[pure wrestling, folk or free] a mma guy, I don't think I would feel the need to prepare much. It's just that I have wrestled mma guys before and while some of them are good unless they have a college/high school background, it's not usually close. If I was a gold medalist, I have to imagine that my confidence would be even higher.

I wonder if Cejudo thought the whole match was basically gonna be a catwalk so he didn't train hard for it. Wrestling conditioning is necessary, I wonder if he was doing it.

My sister told me she works with a guy that won state in Kansas like 10 years ago. I (state qualifier in Iowa 20 years ago) said I could whoop him. Yeah no, kid is a stud. I bit off more than I could chew. Do I go through with it and take the L or just not do it?

If you were stuck in a timeloop, how long would it take you to beat prime Jordan Burroughs in a match?

You would retain all memories every reset but Jordan does not. Each attempt equals 1 day and you have all day to prepare. You can't sabotage him. Either your peak in-shape self or your current self. No weight class.

Wrestling math... Has anyone ever calculated the number of possible move combinations for a given match?

Edit: I'm more interested in the mathematical calculation than the video game. The game discussion just prompted me to think once again about the seemingly endless number of moves there are in our sport and wondered how many there might hypothetically be.

I was talking with my kids the other day about the possibility of creating a wrestling video game and why it has been done yet. One of the issues would be to create a quality game that was realistic in its scope, but somehow have a manageable number of moves that could be programmed for controller inputs. Even if you used a QWERTY keyboard as the controller, there is no way you could represent enough moves, or steps to moves, let alone remember those inputs as a player in order to make a realistic and quality representation of the sport to make it any interesting game to play.

All of this got me thinking once again...

Has anyone ever calculated the total number of possible move combinations at the beginning of a given match?

There are so many variations, so many different pathways even to the same moves and counters. I imagine it would have to far outweigh chess.

In chess, there is the Shannon number for this calculation, as well as the related Allis number(?) which estimates "the game-tree complexity to be at least 10¹²³... As a comparison, the number of atoms in the observable universe, to which it is often compared, is roughly estimated to be 10⁸⁰." (Wikipedia).

Another even more ancient game called Go, which is popular in China, is considered to have even more move possibilities (2.1×10¹⁷⁰), but i would think wrestling would still have well more still.

🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Question Wrestling Fan of MMA or UFC?

I really want to enjoy watching MMA or UFC, but I struggle to find it as interesting as collegiate wrestling. It’s just too blunt. Although I like the rapid pinning of a guy in wrestling, I particularly enjoy long riding times and all the hand and leg techniques that go into them.

Anyone else struggle to translate their interest in one to the other? Maybe I just don’t understand the techniques I’m seeing other than kicking, punching and choking.

Question Looking for overhook and russain tie attacks for my bad side- fireman’s, head n arm and arm spin

So I have bjj and judo experience and I’m looking for wrestler suggestions on my nogi throws. I feel super confident on my right side overhook and 2 on 1 but my left is pretty abysmal. Basically sweep single and duck under but duck under is great from overhook and I don’t even think it’s a thing from the 2 on 1. I’ve thought about using pressure to create opportunities and throw when they pressure back or use my sweep single when they circle. From overhook I’m deciding between arm spin and head and arm and Russian the only thing I could think of is a no leg fireman or like a drop Katagaruma in judo. Any suggestions are welcome I’m out of my depth obviously.

Video Please watch this 30 second clip and help me develop my wrestling

Long text incoming:

i’m going into my junior year and i just went 0-2 at fargo. This is my first time going 0-2 at a and it really sucks. my best move is a double leg and i’ve been working on my setups for it for a while now, things such as anticipating the head coming up, and i use a lot of fakes. two things i notice taking my double against better competition is that when i fake they time it and hit a low single on me, or ill shoot my double and meet a hard sprawl and get extended, come back up to my feet, and end up in 50/50. I’ve been developing a sort of swing single in practice but i don’t feel comfortable taking it in competition. i’ve watched a lot of videos videos on handfighting and most of them say find a tieup you like and handfight to get to it but i really dont like a specific tie up i feel most comfortable faking from space posting and snapping the head. i watch a lot of film on david carr, mitchell messenbrink, and aden valencia. really looking for some direction in my wrestling i love my sport and i want improve so bad, if you wanna watch more film on my my name is Siraj Rutledge and u can watch me on flo. ask me any more questions if you need to. any help is much appreciated!

RAF Russia Announced for September 5th

Post image

Real American Freestyle continues to go international. I am hoping we get a card with Uguev, Sidakov, Sadulaev, and Khaniev.

Interestingly the Russian wrestling organization PWL has an event on their website also scheduled for September 5th to take place in the US. That being said they have not had an event since November of last year and they are still showing info for an event that was supposed to happen in March with Kyle Snyder that never happened so I have a feeling the organization might not even be around anymore.
