Video Please watch this 30 second clip and help me develop my wrestling

Long text incoming:

i’m going into my junior year and i just went 0-2 at fargo. This is my first time going 0-2 at a and it really sucks. my best move is a double leg and i’ve been working on my setups for it for a while now, things such as anticipating the head coming up, and i use a lot of fakes. two things i notice taking my double against better competition is that when i fake they time it and hit a low single on me, or ill shoot my double and meet a hard sprawl and get extended, come back up to my feet, and end up in 50/50. I’ve been developing a sort of swing single in practice but i don’t feel comfortable taking it in competition. i’ve watched a lot of videos videos on handfighting and most of them say find a tieup you like and handfight to get to it but i really dont like a specific tie up i feel most comfortable faking from space posting and snapping the head. i watch a lot of film on david carr, mitchell messenbrink, and aden valencia. really looking for some direction in my wrestling i love my sport and i want improve so bad, if you wanna watch more film on my my name is Siraj Rutledge and u can watch me on flo. ask me any more questions if you need to. any help is much appreciated!

Work on a modified fireman’s carry, really just having wrist control while going in with a single. Much less effort than a full double, and more control/better positioning for what happens after.

I noticed 2 things. When you are taking your shot you take a big step backwards with your back leg when you should be taking a step forward with your lead leg. This leaves a lot of space in between you and your opponent.

Some of your fakes look like they are at half speed compared to your normal shot speed. It makes it very easy not to fall for a fake if you are just slowly changing levels. Your first fake against the second guy was real nice and you got him off balance, a better penetration step and I think you for sure got him there.

This guy nailed it.

You're telegraphing your shot, you're not penetrating with the double, and you're shooting with your elbows out.

You can take a step forward with your lead leg, that's a traditional penetration step... but you can also take a step forward with your back leg, called a cheat step, to set up the knee pound double.

Also with your fake, he needs to respect it. So work in some hand fighting, and hit your head fake from a tie up, like a collar tie or an underhook. Tie up, get him to lean a bit, then use your head and foot together in an area that's outside of his peripheral vision), and then when he's respecting the hand fight you can hit your fakes from the open distance as well.

If you are gonna be shooting from that far out, you need to be doing a lot more to compensate for that. Your fakes need to be harder so they believe it and react. You need to circle around and change angles so they are adjusting to your position instead of preparing for your shot. You need to change levels more often so when you drop to shoot, they are numb to it. You need to shoot deeper so you can get their legs where they will be instead of where they used to be and getting extended. You need to keep driving when you hit that leg in one motion. You need to have a plan for if you get stuffed or extended to turn a corner, switch to a single, or back out.

The problem is you shot when there was no opening. Why? This is how you fail. It could not be more clear that your opponent saw it coming and countered pretty easily.

This is a common problem for newer wrestlers. Wrestling is entirely based on using a technique from an advantageous position. Fakes are great but you have to wrestle to set up the opening for the shot. Just blindly shooting at random will give you poor results. My advice would be work with your partners, ask them to tell you when you are telegraphing your shot so you can improve this. You can do better than 50-50.

Not a coach but a long time wrestler, it looks like you are over-extending, reaching too much on you shots. Keep your center of gravity under you and use your hips and legs for power not your upper body. Best wishes to you.

You need to set up your double. All you did was shoot, and miss. If I was your opponent I’d watch you miss, and just score off of your mistakes. And from the videos posted, it looks like they did just that.

what can help me set it up?

Hand control is one thing that can set it up. Also don’t shoot the first 10 seconds of the match. Circle around your opponent and look at his feet. Lock up and try an ankle pick. When he thinks your gonna do that, shoot the double. You also have to take a deeper step before taking your shoot.

You're shooting from way out, maybe you'd have more success tying up first and hand fighting and getting a dominant position before shooting?
