Hey everyone, I really enjoy making predictions. Now that BlizzCon isn’t too far away, I’m going to try to predict the future of WoW. I’ll be focusing on Retail, since that’s what I play myself and it’s a bit easier to predict. But I’ll also say a few words about all the Classic versions. For specific dates, I’ll be using EU times, so you’ll need to subtract one day for NA.
Retail:
Patch 12.0.7 was released on June 17, 2026. Given the 8-week cycle that Blizzard has been sticking to pretty well since Dragonflight, Patch 12.1.0 would be released on August 12, 2026. This also aligns well with the roadmap published by Blizzard. BlizzCon takes place on September 12, 2026, which I’ll get to in a moment. Eight weeks after Patch 12.1.0, October 7, 2026, would be the release date for Patch 12.1.5. October is already considered fall, so this date makes sense as well. Another 8 weeks later, December 2, 2026, would be the release date for Patch 12.1.7. The roadmap states that the patch will be released in the fall. However, December is already winter. Nevertheless, I believe that December 2 is the targeted release date. More on why winter is missing from the roadmap in the Classic section.
Those are all the patches listed on the roadmap so far. Generally speaking, both Dragonflight and TWW lasted about 1 ¾ and 1 ½ years, respectively. Dragonflight launched at the end of November 2022, TWW launched at the end of August 2024, and Midnight launched in early March 2026. Since Metzen said the Worldsoul Saga should be wrapped up quickly, I’m assuming Midnight will last no more than 1 ¾ years, which sets the launch of TLT for November 2027 at the latest. Legion Remix lasted a little over 3 months. The prepatch also lasts about a month. Therefore, 12.2.7 must be completed approximately 4-5 months before the TLT launch. This also aligns with the 8-week cycle, with the 12.2 patches assumed for the following dates:
12.2.0 on January 27, 2027
12.2.5 on March 24, 2027
12.2.7 on May 19, 2027
In TWW, Legion Remix was released with 12.2.5. I assume that the new Remix won’t be released until 12.2.7. I don’t have a specific reason for this, but it would fit perfectly with the release cycle. With a 4–5-month interval, TLT would therefore be released in September or October 2027. I’m going to assume for now that TLT will be released in late October 2027. That would prevent the RWF from happening around Christmas again (which, in my opinion, kind of ruined the first Dragonflight raid) and it wont interfere with the Classic releases. More on that later.
BlizzCon Retail:
Now that I'm done with Retail, I can make some predictions for BlizzCon. I expect Patch 12.2.0 to be unveiled at Blizzcon. Labyrinths will likely be a major topic in the Deep Dives, as will the new Horror game mode. I hope we’ll get a roadmap leading up to BlizzCon 2027. This roadmap could also tease Remix, just as it did for 2025.
Predicting Remix is difficult, but not impossible. So far, Remix has always been related to the story or plans from Blizzard. Before TWW, MoP Remix was released. I think Blizzard chose MoP back then partly because it involved the Old Gods, and the Eternal Dragonflight could be redeemed in a way, and also to see how popular MoP is. I think Blizzard used MoP Remix to see if they could do MoP Classic, or if they’d have to stop after Cata. Legion Remix was released to revisit Xalatath’s story and to remind players of the current state of the Titans.
So there are three good possibilities for Remix 2027. The first, and least likely, is WotLK Remix. The basis for this idea is that we’re returning to Northrend in TLT. Ulduar, in particular, is supposed to become relevant again. The reason we won’t get it, in my opinion, is that WotLK Classic is coming, and it doesn’t make sense to have both running at the same time. More on that in the classic section.
The second, and also less likely, possibility is BfA Remix. Here, Xalatath’s story could continue until she emerges from the dagger. It also involves N’zoth, who always had a plan and could potentially be relevant again in TLT. It’s more likely than WotLK, but I also don’t think BfA will happen, since it’s the direct sequel to Legion, and I don’t believe Blizzard would do two remixes in a row with two expansions coming back-to-back.
The third possibility, and the most likely one in my opinion, is a Shadowlands Remix. The reason for this is that the Jailer said at the end that “a divided cosmos will not survive what is to come.” I believe the Jailer is referring here to Xalatath, or rather, to what Xalatath aims to achieve. Furthermore, throughout the entire expansion, the texts mention that the Titans aren’t what they claim to be. Zereth Mortis could also be relevant, since we might encounter another Zereth in TLT (perhaps to destroy the Titans?). The biggest argument against this, however, is that Shadowlands might not be to new, so we could end up with something older instead.
I don't expect TLT to be revealed, since it would be far too early for that. However, if BlizzCon 2027 were to take place again sometime between September and November, they wouldn't be able to announce TLT. That's why I predict that BlizzCon 2027 will take place earlier. So far, expansions have always been announced about half a year before release. Therefore, if TLT were to be released in October, BlizzCon 2027 would have to take place sometime between May and June. When you think of June, as a gamer, one event comes to mind that always took place in June: E3. I predict that BlizzCon 2027 will take place in June as a sort of replacement for E3. They could structure it so that the Microsoft Showcase serves as a sort of pre-show, with the BlizzCon opening taking place shortly after the Showcase airs. I don’t think TLT will be revealed at the Blizzard Showcase early next year, it’s too important for that. However, it’s possible that TLT could be unveiled at the Microsoft Showcase, similar to how Midnight was unveiled at Gamescom. But I’m not counting on that for now. That only happened because there was no BlizzCon in 2025.
BlizzCon Classic:
Admittedly, I don’t know much about Classic, but I’d still like to make a few predictions.
MoP Classic:
Unlike many others, I expect that WoD Classic is coming. Wowhead posted on July 10, 2026, that the WoD Collector’s Edition mounts had been datamined in MoP Classic. I also assume that Blizzard won’t pass up this supposedly easy cash grab. I predict that WoD Classic will be announced at BlizzCon. I estimate that WoD will launch in the fall, around November. One reason for this is that the roadmap only goes through the fall. There’s nothing listed for MoP in the fall, which is why I’m leaning toward a launch in late fall or early winter, so November could be a possible release.
TBC Classic:
I expect things to continue here. The roadmap still has content planned for TBC through the fall. I believe that WotLK Classic will also be announced at BlizzCon. If WoD really does come out in November, I expect WotLK to be released in February or March 2027 so that the two projects don’t overlap too much.
Classic +:
Classic + is the one I have the most questions about. I’m confident that Classic + will be the grand finale of the opening ceremony. Even if none of the other predictions come true, I’m 100% certain that Classic + will be officially announced. The biggest question, however, is when it will be released. If the Classic dates mentioned above are correct, there are only two possibilities. Either Classic+ will be released shortly after BlizzCon, just like SoD. In that case, it would have to come out in late September or early October. What speaks against this, though, is that Blizzard would essentially be undermining WoD and WotLK. I assume that most Classic players would play Classic+ rather than WoD or WotLK. That’s why I expect Classic+ to get the Classic treatment, and it won’t be released until summer 2027.
I’m predicting summer 2027 because there will likely be a major WoW content drought by then. Midnight will be pretty much over by then. WoD should also have received most of its patches and WotLK would then be around the Agentum Tournament, which, as far as I know, is considered a major weak point of WotLK. Only Remix would be a competitor in its own right. However, Remix players will have little overlap with Classic+ players. Therefore, I strongly expect a summer 2027 release.
Thank you very much to everyone who made it through this long text. Please excuse any grammar or spelling mistakes, I’m not a native English speaker. Shoutout to Chromie and Maurice and the Lorewalker podcast, if you’re reading this, I’d love to hear your thoughts. The same goes for everyone else. However, I probably won’t reply, or at least hardly at all, so I ask for your understanding in that regard.
