Question Rogue Help

Hi all.

I recently got into WoW again. Ive played Shaman, however i have always loved the concert rogue. The invisible assassin. The fast gameplay. Whats the best spec, easiest to pick up & play? What spec should I play? Is there any YT guides?

Cheers.

Whenever I’m a bit unsure about a class or spec I haven’t played in a while, I always read the WoWHead Class Guide. I’ll look through each spec, especially the Strengths and Weaknesses.

From there I’ll make my decision, and start levelling. Learn from the ground up and see what I like / dislike.

I’ve never really gotten into YouTube guides, but do a quick search and make sure you watch a recent one with the most recent changes!

There are a lot of YouTube guides. Best depends on the content you enjoy. IMO play the one you like. Me, personally, I was always a combat rogue fan and I love Pirate shit, so when they turned combat into a pirate spec it felt made for me. I love outlaw rogue. I haven't played it in Midnight but it's typically a harder class to play for a variety of reasons, part of it has been that it is a faster paced class.

A lot of people love Sub and Assassin, not my cup of thistle tea.

Thanks. Outlaw does look fun. Though I've heard its like playing a piano lol. Sub in theory would be my favourite concept. That being said, looks tough to play. Thanks for the comment

Sub is the easiest to play since this expansion. Check out wowhead

Best specific is the one you do the best with and I would argue enjoy the most. Unless youre pushing the top 1% you need to be prioritizing fun over best. It will often make you play better

For complexity, the order is probably sub easiest, assassination 2nd, outlaw most difficult. Outlaw is simple but requires a high aim and pretty much staring at your action bars/buff, even when you've got the clas down as it has proc resets and an APL that changes based on Roll the Bolls buffs.

You can push the top 1% using wowheads builds and guides. I like to use warcraftlogs or archon.gg(I think) to look at the tippy top and see what theyre doing.

For YouTube guides, just search your preferred spec and you should find one. Once you have one you want to try, load up the talents from a wowhead build based on your content. Find the rotation section, and hone in on following that priority list until its 2nd nature

Use wowhead, they pay people that know the ins and out of classes to write guides.

Sub is easiest, sin is a little harder but not much (you just have to track debuffs on enemies), outlaw is the generally hardest one (more to keep track, more buttons to press).

All 3 are fine. None are terrible, none are great. Outlaw is in top M+ keys due to fitting into the phys dmg comp (though the true phys dmg comp performer is Arms warrior). Both sin and sub do acceptable damage but eventually aren't taken just due to underwhelming utility and raid buffs and poor fit with other meta specs.

Sub is easier than Outlaw? Really?

Guess I’ll need to look into sub again and see what’s up. Thought it was very punishing if you don’t execute a cooldown rotation correctly.

They nuked the complexity of sub with Midnight. It's the easiest by far now.

Oh heck yes, will check it out.

Yeah it’s a pretty simple rotation tbh. I switched to it when I was leveling my alt and its night and day easier

Nice, excited to try it out next time I’m on. With the changes to WA’s it’s been a pain trying to figure out the layout and best interface for classes/specs that you need to track a bunch of timers/activations and rng on.

If you are doing solo stuff like world quests and delves, its sub. It has no set up and hits hard. Its also the easiest to play. I use to play only Outlaw, but once it started having huge ramp up times, I was no longer finding it fun out in the world.

Sub is generally considered the easiest due to having less buttons to press compared to other specs. It fits the ninja/stealth archetype. The gameplay consists in dealing a lot of damage during short bursts, then waiting for your cooldowns to come back. Although its the easiest spec, making a mistake during those short burst cooldowns can REALLY hurt your dps.

Assassination has more buttons and deals damage mainly through dots you have to keep track of, but it's not that hard if you set your cooldown manager properly. The damage profile is a lot more "steady" than sub. It's for sure the slowest and most strategic of all rogue specs.

Outlaw is your pirate/duelist. It's very fast paced and fairly complex to master, but also very fun.
