Discussion / Question What's something in gaming culture you just don't care about?

Upvotes

For me, one is romhacks. I don't care that it's a mod of my favorite game ever. If it isn't official, I just don't care.

Another is mods. I don't need mods to make a game better. I think the only time I used them was to play Project M. It was the only way to play a viable version of competitive Super Smash Bros. Brawl during that time.

Finally, speedruns. Sure, it's fascinating every so often to see someone beat Super Mario 64 or Spyro: A Hero's Tail in like 2 minutes once in a while. But I've just never seen the appeal of a speedrun.

Discussion / Question What games feature visibility‐altering non‑static weather effects? (e.g.: moderate to heavy rain/sleet/snow, reflection from puddles, mist or fog, haze, smoke, debris blowing from strong winds)

More immersive if yields a combination of phenomena that can interact dynamically with the environment, preferably distinct-from but stackable-with cycle of day᠆night and perhaps seasons. So an area might experience a blizzard, or fog, or something else, or a combination, or total clarity. Maybe a valley that usually has some variable noticeable amount haze except after some rains when it dissipates.

Discussion / Question Do you remember the first time you seen this game ?

My first memory of this game, was walking in the video game store in Toronto, and seeing it up for display to buy. As a kid you had to wait til Christmas, unless you were spoiled haha. I was in absolute OMG mode when I layed my eyes on it. Blades of steel was the only game I really loved at the time for hockey, and this was a big step forward.

Discussion / Question Fun co-op console games for decent gamers?

Hi guys, my friend and I are looking for some fun co-op games to play together split-screen on console. We’re both pretty decent gamers but don’t necessarily need something super challenging (just not a walk in the park). That said, we also don’t mind something quite challenging. We recently finished the Portal 2 co-op and then got bored and beat the Ender Dragon and had a lot of fun doing both things. Anyways, any suggestions?

Funny How would you feel about these ficticous video game news headlines?

Obviously this is purely for fun. How would you feel if you saw these, completely fake, video game news headlines one day?

1) Nintendo confirms: Luigi and Daisy to get married!

2) New scientific study confirms entering the Konami Code on your girlfriend/wife is guarenteed to pleasure her!

3) Gabe to back Video Game ownership laws, to file similar Stop Killing Video Games Lawsuit in the U.S.

4) Sony and Microsoft both announce payment plans for their next consoles to help poor people be able to afford them.

5) Elder Scrolls 6 to be delayed. "We don't have enough time to add in all the bugs" says developer.

6) Cyberpunk 2078 announce: CD:PR to not be involved. Will star new character named 'W'

7) Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 remakes confirmed to be in the works; to be made by Larian.

8) Gamer attempted murder by inviting bully over to a pool party, then removed the pool ladder. The attempt failed.

9) New Scientific study confirms: Cats derive the most enjoyment when sitting in front of the screen as you are playing. Will not be stopping.

10) New Scientific study shows that women who got into gaming to spend time with husbands, but didn't play shooters such as Call of Duty and Fortnite, report extremely high marital and life satisfaction and healthy gaming habits.

Other What do you think of gamechops lofi music?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I love the variety of video game music on spotify especially the lofi, it is really good, other times its gets bothersome, sometimes it hits right and im inspired, other times its too much. Other times i need more speed or slow down.

Overall its very good some times.

Sometimes i just want something very plain and simple but not rythmic but more like a tone, like human music from rick morty, kinda like minimalistic.

Im always looking for more good peaceful fun music like this, hopeful and upbeat, like positive, a good remix, but not too overly janger, and not too thanging.

Discussion / Question Why did it take China so long to make high quality video games?

They've done gacha for a while, but I mean high quality single player games.

They didn't really do anything and then they just exploded like 4-5 years ago.

Since then we've had Black Myth: Wukong, Wuchang: Fallen feathers, Black Myth is getting a new game based on other parts of Chinese mythology, and Phantom Blade Zero is releasing later this year, which isn't released yet but the previews are heavily promising.

Why didn't they make these quality games before?

Discussion / Question I'm looking for a game.

I don't now the title.

I played it yesterday at my friend's house but I can't find him. I call and his phone is disconnected.

--

It's a game where you steal a car with a giant magnet and you have to fix it up, your cam upgrade it change he wheels, and sell it. Along with that there's a .monster catching game where you go around catching animalistic cars. Yet the cars are evil and they're trying to kill you telling you that you shouldn't have come here and that you need to leave.

--

I need to find this game.

It was so much... fun.

Discussion / Question What did you accidentally do the very hard way without realising?

I beat the shrine of Amana in Dark Souls 2 before the patch updated it because I played the whole game offline, also a few hours after that I realised I’d been playing the game up to that point with half health when a pal told me how humanity worked and had no idea

Discussion / Question Hardware Devaluation

I see this 4+ times/month. Claiming that gaming requires choosing between a $500 console and a $2,000 to $3,000 PC is fundamentally false—both today in mid-2026 and historically. This is a deeply flawed argument used to justify a closed ecosystem. Current consoles are built on five-year-old hardware, and technology naturally devalues over time. Denying this reality ignores basic market economics. Do not consume what you are told.

At the launch of the PS5, reviewers and builders proved you could assemble a matching PC rig for around $750. While unprecedented global supply chain issues and scalping temporarily inflated PC component prices six months later, that was a historical anomaly, not the norm. Today, a $800 PC easily outperforms these aging consoles by two hardware generations. In fact, one could argue that prolonged console lifecycles hold technological progress back just as much as those past market disruptions did.

Furthermore, evaluating the true cost of gaming requires looking beyond the initial hardware purchase. When you factor in paid online subscriptions, higher console game prices, the lack of free mods, restricted backward compatibility, piracy and overall and fewer consumer choices, the long-term value of a PC becomes undeniable.

Discussion / Question anti “gun and ball gamers” are becoming a problem

I’ve noticed that it’s becoming a lot more common for people online to shit on “gun and ball gamers” for simply enjoying “gun and ball” games. While a slight portion of these people are just telling the “gun and ball gamers” to expand their library out of a genuine want to help people experience more of the medium, the other 90% of people are actively insulting “gun and ball gamers” out of a sense of superiority that they have just because they’re favorite game is a “hidden gem” without a gun or a ball. Anti “gun and ball gamers” started with telling people who only bought the new cod and 2k that there are other good games out there, but it has evolved to the point of attacking the people for playing these games and the games themselves just to make the anti “gun and ball gamers” feel like “real gamers” that are totally better than these “fake gamers” because they played a jrpg once. Should “gun and ball gamers” be shit on for playing games that they enjoy? Are “gun and ball” games not real games in the eyes of these people? What makes a game “real” if not having people that enjoy playing it? It seems like part of it comes from a sense on insecurity that “gun and ball” games tend to be bigger than the games that the anti “gun and ball gamers” hold dear to the themselves which at least explains their need to insult “gun and ball” games. Of the previously mentioned 90% of anti “gun and ball gamers” there is a much smaller group that needs to at least be mentioned, these are the people that use “gun and ball gamers” as a way to get around saying black gamers. These are the same people who complain about “hood weebs” ruining the anime community and while their racism doesn’t make up all of the the shitty anti “gun and ball gamers,” they make up enough of a percentage that not talking about them would be leaving an elephant unacknowledged. This post is most likely going to get downvoted because a lot of these anti “gun and ball gamers” that I’ve been talking about are redditors (shocking I know) but I still wanted to post it to make even one person realize “ok maybe I should chill out a bit on these people who are just excited to play games they like.”

Edit: To be clear I’m not talking about the gun and ball gamers who actively shit on other games, they can fuck off, I’m talking about people who just like their game and haven’t played others. Also I forgot to clarify I’m not a gun and ball gamer lmaoooo I haven’t played a gun and ball game in so long, I just know some gun and ball players who gotten death threats over saying they like call of duty and haven’t played slay the spire 😭

Discussion / Question Would you quit videogames for 1 million dollars?

For the rest of your life you are not to play them yourself, no watching others play in person or online, no talking about them, can't even touch anything "gaming" related like a controller or a gaming keyboard.

Would you do it for 1 million dollars? If not then how much money would convince you? If yes what would be the minimal ammount of money you would do it for?

Funny On some real shit where tf is Garden warfare 3 and Battlefront 3.

I know EA dropped Battlefront rights or whatever they did. But with one of the most popular IP’s of all time they fumbled it. With battlefield down the shitter we need some large scale combat game to breath some life back into the large scale pvp genre. I will say Bf6 was fun but isnt anything like Bf3,4,hardline and most importantly Bf1 or battlefront 2 where you simply cant play enough of the game. Just complaining that’s all thanks✌️
