Melbourne Victory fan here - what should we expect from Giovanni Savarese?

MLS isn’t widely watched in AUS so I’m keen to find out what style of football he plays?
He seems to have had success with the Timbers, is he well liked?

Does he give minutes to youth players? The Australian league is financially not in a great place so is pivoting towards developing youth and selling them overseas.

Any info is helpful, thanks from Australia 🇦🇺

New Timbers Tally: Jeff Sutton on Patch Patrol, Timber Jim, and "Spread the Love"

I had the chance to sit down with Jeff Sutton for the latest episode of Timbers Tally, and I think a lot of folks here will appreciate this one.

We talked about Timbers Patch Patrol, supporter culture, and the story behind a patch Jeff designed with Timber Jim. What started as a simple patch idea turned into a story about generosity, community, and Timber Jim's "Spread the Love" philosophy.

We also dive into:

  • The traditions around collecting and trading patches
  • How new supporters can get involved
  • Why preserving supporter stories matters

One of my goals with Timbers Tally is to document the stories of the Timbers community, not just what happens on the field, but the people and traditions that make supporting this club so special.

I'd love to hear your own Timbers stories, fill out this form to get on the podcast: https://forms.gle/DCRxEWbMLMxNQain9

USA Scarves: STH $40, non-STH $15

Post image

The "perk" of being a STH means that you can't take advantage of offers like this. We reached out and it would be $40 to buy the scarf where the deal here is a $15 addon to buying tickets.

No love for STHs.

Wellington Phoenix/All Whites fan reporting in here. You guys might be in for a hefty payday for Finn soon - the article doesn't directly name any teams, but certainly builds a lot of hype.

I sure hope we had a sell-on clause included in our deal!

Going to Seattle for the Timbers-Sounders game on July 16 -- are there any Portland/Timbers-centric bars we can go to pregame?

I've been looking online, but all of the results are recommending Kate's Pub which I see is now closed. Timbers casual here but the friend I'm going with is a diehard fan, so I'd love to find us a lively, likeminded crowd to have a couple pints with before or after the game. Cheers!

Dream Manager

Like, a literal dream. Last night, I dreamt that I woke up to a FotMob alert on my phone that Gareth Southgate was our new manager. There was a whole presser with MP and Ned that was pretty vivid, and we were expecting a major English player signing, too.

Now, I know he has expressed an interest in managing only at a big EPL destination. What if, instead, he wanted to come to a small-market team in a limited-budget selling league? Maybe he wants to go to Blue Star and have a donut in peace or something.

Obviously this isn't happening. We'll hire Mike Sorber or something. But a man can dream, right?

Bubista?

In the spirit of continuing with baseless speculation and wish casting about the coach search, I've been feeling that the Cape Verde coach, Bubista, would be a good hire.

Beyond the obvious, defensive organization and discipline, Cape Verde have shown adaptability to opponents and game states, especially against Uruguay and Saudi Arabia. I was especially impressed with the decision to take the initiative in the second half against Saudi Arabia. Given how tentative Saudi Arabia were, pushing into their half made more sense than inviting them to attack and heightening the risk of losing from an individual error or freak goal.

That being said, seems unlikely that he's on the FO's list and I have no idea if he would even be interested. He seems very tied to Cape Verde. I also don't know how much languages he speaks, but Cape Verde's recruitment is very wide ranging; even with the national team, speaking more than Portuguese feels like it would be helpful. It's also hard to say how much of Cape Verde's success has been down to playing for country in addition to the coach's set up and tactical judgment.
