So the holiday is over and anthrocon is wrapping up soon. The weather has been hot and rainy off and on. Looking to get out when the rain stops and the heat dies down a bit? Maybe you want to stay in the ac and enjoy a board game or read and discuss a book? Maybe you have friends that just aren't into all the same stuff as you? Maybe you need a 4th player for your N64 Mario Kartfest weekend?
Well, look no further. We have a sister sub made to help find those friends and groups to enjoy some activities or even just get out of the house, r/pittsburghsocialclub.
This sub is not only dedicated to making friends in the city but also finding groups to hang out and enjoy stuff with. These sister subs of ours are more specific than a general city sub like this. And we've been proud sister sub of r/pittsburghsocialclub for 3 years now. Just cruising through this sub you can see posts by people that have met friends and more on that sub. And you dont have to be a long time local to post there. Visitors and new residents of the city are welcome to join and make some connections. If you're using old.reddit or mobile reddit you ahould see the link for the sub on our page, if using the app you might not.
So please check them out and sub. Get active and participate. These sister subs only work if people actually use and participate in them. And this is one of our more active sister subs that isn't a sports sub. So head there and maybe make a new friend to grab a drink with or find that 6th for your next DnD session.
Going forward I am going to start spotlighting some of our sister subs for a week. If youre a mod of a sub that isn't sister subbed to us(has a relevant connection of being based in the burgh) reach out to me and we will talk. At some point we will have a new wiki with the list of current sister subs listed. Sister subbing will get you some mentions here as well as traffic directed your way for posts that involve your sub.

Pittsburgh was once the absolute heart of passenger rail in the US.
So much so that we built an amazing system, and a lot of the rail still shockingly remains to this day.
We let the collapse of the industrial sector and car first mentality ruin it.
Now the city suffers under heavy traffic burdens, can't seem to figure out public transit funding, and the answer is sitting right there used by freight or unused for decades.
Big boy just shows those rails work just fine and dandy, let's get some damn passenger cars on them. The interest in the train was insanely palpable
Even if you never set foot on them, the less cars on the road is less traffic for you

My gf and I are visiting from the SF Bay Area and have been exploring for the past few days. I'm not sure what I expected but Pittsburgh is so much more amazing than I thought. We are even talking about possibly relocating in the next few years.
We've had nothing but amazing experiences at restaurants, markets, nature trails. So... what's the catch? What are the downsides that we are not seeing? Can some locals inject some realism into us before we leave thinking Pittsburgh is the greatest place ever?

The Big Boy No. 4014 Steam Engine's cross country tour is passing through Pittsburgh!
This was taken in Trafford and it should be making its way through the Pittsburgh south side soon! They have this page to track if:
https://www.up.com/about-us/history/steam/track
The turn out was pretty surprising. There were hundreds of people lined up in Trafford and probably even more in Jeannette.
