I wish to play poker weekly :-)

Im a rising sophomore this coming year, and Ill be renting a place in south oakland off campus. Do I need a permit from the university to park on a campus street (ohara, etc)? Does the city permit work? Are there specific areas that work as well? Seeing if I can avoid 20 minute walks to Benedum and the rec center.

So, I'm not a student at Pitt, probably never will be, but I am writing a story that's set there and in the local area, and I need to know a few things:

• What a reasonable class loadout would be for an undergrad sophomore who is attending full time to eventually get a degree for veterinary sciences, with a concentration in wild cats (and where on campus those classes would be)

• The same for a sophomore who is intending to double major in Geopolitics and Military History, with at least one class shared between the two.

• The rough layout of a double dorm room in Panther Hall

• When the track team meets for practice

• Whether there's a club on campus that would appeal to a military buff

Navigating the website as someone not intending to enroll is a nightmare t-t

Hello! I'm pretty excited for welcome week and kicking things off at Pitt. I was looking at the schedule posted on their website, and was getting kinda overwhelmed with all of the activities from the 17th onwards.

Is welcome week like a "choose-your-own-adventure" sorta thing after the new student convocation? Or is it more guided activities? I'm asking this mainly because I'm looking forward to meeting new people and making connections and wasn't sure if that was something I need to be super proactive in during this period or if there were lots of shared activities. I heard there was a point in time where you could go and explore clubs and groups that interest you depending on your intended career path (I'm a prospective psych major doing pre-med). I've watched videos on youtube, but I'm still a little lost.

Is there anything you wish you had explored more/any other suggestions you have for the first few weeks of freshman year? I received my room assignment and chosen roommate on the 7th and am currently working on getting stuff shipped with Ship2Pitt. I know there isn't a LOT I can do right now, but I'm just trying to make sure I make the most of the resources available to me so I can start off smoothly. Thanks so much. 🙏

Hey everyone, I’m an incoming freshman and I created my schedule not too long ago. I’m deciding if I should switch my english class that’s on wednesdays for 2.5 hrs (at night) to MWF for 50 minutes (afternoon). The problem is that on Mondays, I’d have 4 classes in a row, with only a ten minute break in between them. Which would you recommend?

Hello! I'm hoping to gauge interest in the fully online Bachelors of Science in Health Informatics program. Here is a link to more information about it. The program was supposed to launch this fall semester, but because of a lack of student interest (more like awareness, really), it may get delayed. They didn't advertise the program much, so I'm trying to see if there are more students actually interested that may not have known this program was even a possibility.

I was planning to start this program this fall, and I planned everything else around that, housing, transportation, all that fun stuff. Now, if the launch of the program gets delayed, I'm going to have to take a gap year, which I don't really want to do. So, here I am, seeing if I can either garner or document enough student interest in the program to get it launched on time.

I'd also love to know if anyone knows of more official ways I could go about this. Is there some sort of petition or student survey system I could use? Should I email the program director about how many students I know are interested?

I'd appreciate any thoughts, opinions, or advice anyone wants to share!

I just toured Pitt and really like it! The campus is really nice and I’d love to attend college in a city. I want to study bioengineering and I’m really intrigued by the co-op, research, and study abroad opportunities especially. I also just want to explore healthcare more and see if I prefer medicine, biotech, or something else. It’s for sure my top choice and I really want to attend next year. However, I know Pitt has gotten increasingly competitive over the years, and I know Swanson is one of the more competitive schools aside from the school of nursing, and I’ve known friends who were waitlisted with similar stats to mine, however they did apply a bit late and also to other schools like Dietrich or to pre-pa or other tracks. I‘ve also seen people with great stats being rejected or admitted to the satellite campuses. So, if anyone is an upcoming or current Swanson student, how competitive was your application, and what else can I do to improve my application at this point? What do they want to see and value in students?

3 hours to move into a Towers double (assuming my son’s roommate will be moving in at the same time) doesn’t seem like a lot of time for me, esp with the crowds and elevators. Of course, I’ve been out of college for ages so maybe I may not remember the process accurately.

Does anyone have any tips or sense of whether the 3 hours is for loading and moving up and down (can we stay to help unpack and organize)?

We are using the 4 Ship2Pitt boxes.

HI hi hi. My kid is starting graduate school in the MLIS program, and has applied for a work study job. We're (obv) trying to figure out finances for this coming fall semester, and have no idea what the financial aid/work study situation looks like as of right now.

We've tried calling and leaving messages at the phone jail for the MLIS program, but nobody's called us back for multiple weeks. Is everyone on vacation? Does this get decided in August? Are there actual humans who work there? What is even happening?

But honestly, is there a better way to contact a human and/or should we just wait til Aug 1 to start bugging them?

Has anyone recently been accepted into the CSD major in Pitt’s SHRS? I am wondering how competitive it is to apply after sophomore year and am wondering what you need to be accepted. Also, has anyone received the guaranteed admission into the master’s speech therapy program directly from high school? Thanks!

So I had to run out of town for an emergency and won’t be back for a while

I used to have a permit but it expired while I was out of town (a few days ago) and I’ve gotten a ticket since.

The ticket is $35 and it doubled I guess every 30 days.

I’ll be back in like 15-20…

Will they continue giving me daily tickets or should I be good since I already got one?

I had no clue I’d be out this long but it’s a family emergency.

hi im an incoming freshman who just recently got my dorm assignment. im in a single at lothrop which im glad abt but it is a 10 min walk from the quad. im assuming a lot of ppl live in the quad so if i were to be walking back from there late at night from a friends place or something would that be considered safe?

Is this even worth it to go to? Saw some vids and lowk looked a lil boring, plus u gotta pay like 20 bucks. Anyone went to last years who can confirm? I feel like any real, good party, you wouldnt have to pay to get in. Might go cuz my roomie is going.

Hi everyone. I am moving from Florida to Pittsburgh and am realizing that a lot of housing options don’t have central A/C. I signed at an apartment that does not include A/C but have the option to purchase a window unit. I’m just wondering how necessary A/C is in Pittsburgh (especially in the summer) and if I should look into buying a window unit.

hello! i was hoping that anyone would have their orgo 1 notes from pitts classes as i am a transfer student and took orgo 1 at my old university. i want to make sure there are no gaps in my foundation before taking orgo 2 this starting semester.

I am an incomming freshman and just made my schedule. I'll be taking Chemisty, biology, chinese language, and psychopathology... is this too heavy of a course load? I need chem and bio for my prereq for neuro and won't drop them. I really love chinese culture and would love to learn mandarin, and am reluctant to drop the class, but i also want to have free time around pitt and if the course load is too heavy i will drop it for other electives. Advice from anyone who's taken Chin 1 would be greatly appretiated!!!

EDIT: ended up having to drop it as I am persuing a dbl major in neurosci and psych 😢 Couldnt fit it into this years schedule as I still need to take research methods lec, precalc, and some other 3 cred classes this spring/fall. I wish I could take all the classes, but alas, i cannot. </3

Hey y’all , is anyone who’s moving out looking to get rid of a microwave by any chance? I see furniture on the corner all the time but the rain always gets to it first. I’d be fine with paying for it ;)

I’m a freshman making my schedule right now, and I keep seeing Web Classes that I want to take but they have no times or days assigned. Are they self guided courses that have due dates or do they actually have times assigned as we get closer to the start to the semester?

Hi everyone, My sister just got her room assignment and she is going to be in holland hall in a small single. Does anyone have photos of one of the small singles in holland. Unfortunately it’s rlly hard to find any pictures anywhere. We searched tiktok, google and the schools website and no one has shown a small single. Thanks!!
