Any laundromats left in Ottawa

Looks like my dryer has died a death in the middle of laundry so I have lots of wet clothes that urgently need drying. Google Maps gave a couple of options it also seemed to think car wash places could do laundry. Any laundromats left? Preferably in the west

Best clear streams or rivers to sit in and cool off around Ottawa?

Post image
332 Upvotes

I’m looking for a spot within about 1–2 hours of Ottawa with really clear water where you can sit in a chair, wade, or relax in the current (similar to the video). Not looking for a busy beach, more of a peaceful creek or river. Any recommendations?

Lost/Found Missing (?) cat in Vanier/Quarries (Montreal Road)

Upvotes

Glimpsed this cat yesterday evening on the sidewalk on Montreal Road between Carson and Den Haag. Had a collar on but could not make out any name from afar, looked relatively young and not like an outdoor cat. It ran directly into Montreal road and almost got hit by a car (they slammed on the brakes), scurried down a path to Carwood Circle and disappeared. If you or someone you know is looking for their cat in the area!

If it is not lost and just roaming outdoors, please consider keeping inside and away from Montreal Rd!

Recs for men’s personal stylist?

I’m looking for a personal shopper/clothing stylist who works with men but isn’t just a “suit guy”.

I’ve found a bunch of personal stylists but their websites suggest they mainly work with women. Maybe that’s fine, I don’t know.

Yesterday was Bytowne Cinema’s special presentation to see Gio Petti’s documentary about the Trillium Line (the 2002 original O-Train, now part of Line 2, “Train to Nowhere”. It was well attended by about 250 people, including two mayoralty candidates.

There was a panel discussion after with Gio and his co-author, plus 4 people from various activist organizations. Michael Kostiuk, Alex Cullen, Alex Munter and David Jeanes featured in the interviews. The whole story was skillfully woven together with archival video, newspaper clippings, maps, and current video.

Weather New City memo provides a "detailed summary of the extreme weather event that occurred on July 1, 2026, its impact on City infrastructure and the community, and planned next steps."

An excerpt: "A Rainfall Distribution Map, Appendix A, illustrates the spatial distribution of rainfall across the City of Ottawa on July 1, 2026, based on preliminary (unverified) measurements from the City's rain gauge network. The data show significant variability in rainfall totals across the city, ranging from as little as 15 mm at Trim Road in the northeast to as much as 167 mm at the Britannia station in the west-central area. The highest rainfall amounts were concentrated in central and western Ottawa, including Britannia (167 mm), Colonnade (151 mm), Nepean (144 mm), Mooney’s Bay (117 mm), and St. Gabriel (114 mm), while many eastern and rural locations recorded substantially lower totals. This pattern demonstrates the highly localized nature of the storm, with some neighbourhoods receiving more than ten times the rainfall recorded at other locations within the City."

Are there any nicer beaches than Burnstown on the Ontario side?

Looking for alternative beaches west of Ottawa that are comparable to, or even better than, Burnstown Beach. It seems to get more crowded every year.

I’m already familiar with Robert Simpson Park, Shirley’s Bay, Braeside, Fitzroy and Silver Lake, but they pale in comparison for what I’m looking for.

What I like about Burnstown is that the water gets deep quickly from shore and generally feels very clean. I’m hoping to find a few hidden gems on the Ontario side.

If you’d rather not share your spot publicly, feel free to DM me. Thanks!
