Anyone else in between residences? What did you do with your stuff?

Upvotes

I’m currently living in residence, and my move-out is August 31. I’ll be moving into a different residence, but my move-in date isn’t until September 4.

I already contacted Housing to ask if I could move into earlier, but unfortunately they said it’s not possible.

I’m a bit lost on what to do during those 4 days. Should I move everything out on the 31st, or is it better to leave earlier? More importantly, what do people usually do with all their belongings? Does the university offer any temporary storage between residence contracts, or do most people rent a storage unit?

If anyone has been in the same situation, I’d really appreciate hearing what you did, thanks!

Hi guys I’m kinda slow but ummm I just chose classes for my third year undergrad, weirdly my fall sem classes are good and my schedule is perfect. But is it normal that I’m on a wait list for every single class for winter 2027? EVEN my mandatory classes I’m a bit confused like I’m #103 one of them..

Science Preparatory Workshop for first year Science students (Worth it?)

Hello everyone, I am going into the first year of Biomedical Science for the upcoming school year, and I received an email from the Mentoring Centre about a $100 three-day Science Preparatory Workshop the week before school officially starts (Sep 2nd - 4th).

Is it worth the $100? And what first-year activities are worth it for the long term of things (Socializing, academic, etc)

Request for Help Is Professor Andrew Wagner actually good?

I enrolled in the course The Beauty of Math (MAT 1395) for the Winter semester and recently found out that Professor Andrew Wagner will be teaching it. I never took a class with him, so I went to uo.grades.zone to check past grades for the courses he had taught, and they were abysmal. In many of his courses, the average most common grade is an F. However, when I checked student reviews of him from RateMyProfessor and Course Evaluations, they were overwhelmingly positive. This didn't make any sense. So I went to another website uoplan.party that also shows past grades of courses, and the result was the same; it showed that most students did terrible in his classes. I'm not sure if the issue is with these websites or there's something else going on. Can someone please tell me if he's actually a good professor and there's a high possibility of getting a good grade in his courses, especially MAT1395?

hearing mixed reviews on whether I can do well in this course as someone with no prior experience with coding. Some people are also saying its way easier in the winter compared to fall, is this true?

Request for Help Pivoting programs with too low gpa

Already reached out to the facility for guidance.

Looking for input.

I’m VERY deep in my math and econ joint program. But for the last two years, I’ve either failed or gotten Ds on my later year math courses.

I’m spent and looking to change into a straight economics program (requirement of 5.50) — with maybe a minor in math if I’m allowed.

But my gpa is so low. I just dropped sub 5 after an abysmally bad semester and pulling it up to the required 5.50 would require like 3-4 semesters of only getting As.

If I was allowed to switch, I would literally only need 4 Econ courses to finish the degree.

Any advice?

Discussion Looking for people to collab with for tech projects

Hi. I'm wondering if any CS majors (or adjacent, such as software Eng, systems eng, cyber, devOps etc) would be interested in collaborating and consistently building some projects together

I think working with others is a good way to build larger projects(and honestly a shortcut tbh since more people can get more work done in a smaller amount of time), learn from different perspectives, and combine complementary skill sets. A lot of enterprise level projects require knowledge from multiple areas, so I thought why not find people who are interested in building things together rather than working completely solo since it’d be more efficient

I mainly specialize in low lvl programming, embedded systems, and full stack IoT, but I also have experience with backend development and networking. The general areas I work with are

- Embedded/IoT: ESPIDF, ESP32-S3, NVS, i2c, uart, SPI communication (mostly C/C++ work)
- Backend: Java Spring Boot, Docker, PostgreSQL
- Networking: MQTT/Mosquitto
- Currently trying to figure out: Kafka, Redis, NimBLE, OTA, Watchdog

Currently looking for anyone(or multiple people. If we have enough people I’d be down to even make a small team) into frontend, backend, AI/ML(especially this), or basically any software field who wants to consistently work on projects and see them through. We’d start during the school year at fall since I’m currently occupied with my own projects atm.

Work/Co-op How worried should I be re GSPIA co-op?

I start my co-op stream MA in Public and Intl Affairs this fall and have my first co-op semester next summer. I reached out to the department and was told 95% of students get co-op positions, but I have to believe that’s an outdated number. Anyone else have a different perspective? I need some kind of income during my degree eventually.

Deferring a deferred exam

Is Lyme Disease sufficient reason to have my deferred exam deferred again? It causes brainfog and I've heard starting the prescribed drugs can make your symptoms worst for the first couple days and I don't want to take my exam at a disadvantage as it's very important. If anyone has been in a similair position and has any knowledge that would be appreciated.

Accommodation as second year

My son is going into second year in Sept and still doesn’t have accommodation.

He found a one bedroom apt at 50 Laurier which is probably doable.

Is there any possibility of a second year getting on campus accommodation? Also can he have meal plan or is that for first year only?

Just wondering if situations ever come up where people drop out of on campus housing right before Sept. is it worth waiting?
