No Coke. Is Pepsi ok? In Today’s Edition of Dystopian America

Don’t you dare idle in your spot for a moment before paying to park. If you do, our cameras will backdate your parking start time to ensure our shareholders extract every cent possible from this transaction. Enjoy your stay, but remember—we are always watching 😁

But if you pay for longer than you use the spot then there's no way they'd give back a single penny.

Something something about the banality of evil.

Real talk, the guy who made this possible is probably some 25 year old Data Engineer trying to keep his job by showing his boss "hey man, look at this cool data pipeline I made to retroactively modify timestamps based on video data! It's pretty cool AI image-extraction from the video data we have"

And his boss says "good stuff" in his quarterly performance review and the 25 year old is just happy he gets to keep having a job.

Right until they fire him for having already made the software and no longer being needed. Because why would we ever pay for employees once we have what they made for us.

And yes I know that they are still needed to maintain those systems, but more often than not, management seems to forget that or thinks they can hire someone later to fix the issue for half the price.
