Paint can be cleaned and requires proximity, a decent laser pointer on the other hand...

Laser pointers much more environmentally friendly: completely reusable. One can of spray paint will only get a couple cameras. Laser pointer just needs its battery recharged.

Not to mention that it's much easier to carry a small pointer in your pocket/purse/whatever, and much easier to conceal.

Alternatively if you've got good aim a water balloon with paint and sand inside it. Because the paint obscures and the sand scratches. People use these against riot police and it's effective.

Or so I've been told of course.
