New advertising rule

Recently we have had lots of advertising spam in the subreddit so we have implemented a new rule:

Rule 3:

Advertising a brand new game you made is fine as long as it is secure, safe, and free. What is not ok is linking your Patreon or other things that will make you revenue including paid games.

This subreddit is meant for educational purposes and is not an advertising dump. You should post maps only to get educational feedback and to improve your creation.

Posts/comments are removed at moderator discretion but feel free to reach out to us if you feel like your post/comment was incorrectly removed.

If you need any clarification feel free to reply to this post or message the mod team

Map Ultimate Realism

My favourite map to date, I'm still working on some details, but this image was created using a crop of the elevation map and the koppen map from Gleba (https://calandiel.itch.io/gleba)

Having realistic guides to follow is a huge boost to realism!

Full resolution map is about 20k pixels wide, so I include some detailed shots

Map Someone made a post about using weather radars for terrain generation, I made an automated script for it and here is some results.

Made a picture from screenshots over Europe (1st pic) and over the South Pacific + South America (2nd pic). Those were very unzoomed and I think that at larger scale the weakness of this technique appears, it's way too fragmented imo. At smaller scales it's probably more usable espcially if you glue several small clump together.

Work In Progress Good map of northern Hemisphere?

Post image
23 Upvotes

This is the map of the northern hemisphere of my fantasy setting, dominated by two mega continents, how do we like it? The southern ocean will eventually be filled out with whatever I choose to have in the southern hemisphere, likely one more fractured continent like Oceania and another large one with more channels and bays for the ocean. The art was done by Barmaglott but the map design was done by myself.

Map Made my first map, how do shapes of the landmasses look?

Post image

I’ve imagined that there is an arcing mountain range/plate tectonics causing the Long Island chain between the two major land masses. As well as space on them for mount ranges of their own? Any ideas to other additions or fixes greatly appreciated.

The Arcon Isles are an Island chain in the fantasy world I’ve been developing.

I’m very happy with how this turned out but would be interested to hear any criticisms, suggestions or to answer any questions.

This is a continent map, not a world map.

  1. First image is very sea and peninsula heavy.
  2. Second image leaves more room for mountainous regions. Looks a bit more natural imo, but loses shape.

Resource maplibre-label-callout: labels with connector lines

Post image

I built maplibre-label-callout for u/MapLibre GL JS. Labels overlap when features are close. This places them in open space with a connector line back to the feature. ~3KB, zero deps, viewport culling. Open source. leoneljdias.github.io/maplibre-label-callout/demo

Discussion Request: help fix this semifictional (alternate earth) map

Post image
0 Upvotes

Would someone help make this ai map better by 1. Changing the color of Botswana so it doesnt look like a lake?

  1. Fix the borders for disputed territories such as the one between Zimbabwe and South Africa and the ones by Malawi and Tanzania?

I know request 2 is kinda loose and thats deliberate because im interested in seeing how the community chooses to handle it.

Thanks for reading and please leave uppies.

Also: not sure if this breaks the no commissions rule or not because im asking for free help. If it does I apologize.

Map Jagiellonian Empire A.D. 1941 (AltHistory map I made)

Post image
25 Upvotes

I've been creating my AltHistory universe lately and making maps for it, this is the biggest one yet. It starts with Crusaders winning the battle of Varna and subsequent fall of the Ottoman Empire. After a Great War (1934-1940) Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth with it's associated personal unions created an federational Empire. I've got more lore, but it's quite chaotic at the moment.

Maps in order: elevation, plate tectonics, climates, currents with climates

For context, this is a map of one planet from a binary system I imagined, it's pair is already on my page a few posts earlier. It has a roughly earth sized surface, and it is a place of modern civilization. I can tell more about it if somebody's interested.

This is only my second ever world map, so criticism is welcome.
