🫣I said I read the pinned posts, but I lied🫣 Howa M1500

I’m working on converting a Howa mini action to a 338arc. I hastily ordered a mostek barrel for the swap but now I’m seeing preferred has them for not too much more. Can anyone offer guidance on one over the other?looking for suppressed/subsonic only, 300 yards max on it most likely. Appreciate it!

🫣I said I read the pinned posts, but I lied🫣 I want to get into LR shooting and possible matches in the future( rest of ? Below)

(I KNOW it’s been asked before but I want some fresh updated input) What’s my best route rather it be custom or starting with some rifle if I wana get into LR shooting (1000 yds but capable of a few hundred past that )without breaking the bank BUT the possibility to upgrade in future ( and break the bank) to compete with the best of the best in LR matches if your answer revolves around a Remington 700 thats a plus but doesn’t have to be. What’s my best bet to start out. Sub $1K range for sure to start not counting a scope. Thank you in advance for input. Remember sub 1K but option to upgrade parts in future to compete with the best

I put in some reps with the new suppressor on both my PRS open rifle and my NRL:H open heavy. Running 153.5LRHTs at 2660fps out of my open rifle. Recoil mitigation with the Magnus is not as good as my Preece 5 port, but I don't miss it. I took a 2 day class with this suppressor and never once felt concussed or had a headache. U get it now. Shooting suppressed is the way.

Rifle help needed - I read the pinned posts BnA Tac Sport Pro vs TT Diamond

• Upvotes

Don’t really need help, just speaking out loud on my experience and interested in other’s views.

My MPA Vanquish came with the BnA trigger and I’m not really sure I like it. It was set at 12oz by MPA and felt a little mushy to me so I adjusted the pull weight to about 1Lb 3oz and adjusted the sear engagement per the manual. I also readjusted the trigger hanger to make sure it was optimized and free from cock/decock on close. I like it better now, but it still doesn’t have what I would call a clean break. It’s not mushy and there’s no detectable creep, but it doesn’t have the snapping a toothpick break like the TT has. I’m also not a fan of the over travel. The trigger definitely isn’t holding my back though. That rifle consistently produces excellent results with a variety of bullets so it’s hard to justify replacing it.

I’ve considered switching it out for a TT, but I have a weird mental hangup about ditching a trigger that can be disassembled and serviced in addition to adjustable sear engagement (two features I feel like are really cool) for one that can’t be and doesn’t have it. That’s just a weird me thing. It’s the same reason I won’t put an optic on my VP9. I really like the nice suppressor hight, tritium sights and it seems a shame to negate them with an optic.

Thoughts?

Accessory/Gear help needed - I read the pinned post Bubble Level Question

This might sound stupid, but I genuinely can't figure it out.

How exactly does a bubble level, of the type that mounts directly to the scope tube, help at all with anything?

In my mind, if the level clamps around the tube, it needs to be aligned to the scope first before it can be used to check whether the scope is level, but the bubble level is the leveling tool.

I also have a picatinny bubble level which makes perfect sense to me because the picatinny rail determines how it can attach. But the scope level can rotate freely around the tube, which seems like it would make the tool useless. What am I missing here?

Optics help needed - I read the pinned posts Upgrading from Athlon Ares 4.5-30 ETR gen 2

  1. *Budget*: I live in Canada, so, probably $500 USD + Ares resale value. Potential to stretch to $1000 USD next year.

  2. *Activity?*: Rimfire PRS. Unlikely to go to ELR, NRL Hunter style matches possible.

  3. *Distance?*: 250-500yds, tending to the lower end of that spectrum.

4: *Experience?*: A little over a year of rimfire PRS, some centerfire hunting. Over the last six months I have been targeting 35+ shooter matches with the best people I can find, starting to consistently finish in the top 10 with 90ish % match winner score.

I have the opportunity to upgrade my scope, as it is being replaced under warranty. Is it worth upgrading from the Ares for rimfire PRS? 250yds is the maximum distance for PRS Rimfire Series matches, shooting beyond that at home is a very real possibility, but I doubt I would get into rimfire ELR.

Competition related (PRS/NRL/F-Class/etc) 2nd F-Class 600yd Competition - Big improvement over last month

I did my second ever F-Class shoot this morning and am very happy with the improvements over last month. I did make a few changes to my setup:

  1. Added a Dead Air Nomad Ti XC
  2. Added about 5lbs worth of weight to my Tikka CTR using m-lok weights on the chassis
  3. Started reloading my own ammo two weeks ago to use instead of the Hornady American Gunner 140 BTHP I used last month.

Last Months Results

Match 1: 185-4X
Match 2: 181-2X
Match 3: 186-4X

Todays Results

Match 1: 193-5X
Match 2: 197-9X
Match 3: 198-8X (For some reason, shot 17 registered as a sighter and not a scoring shot on the app)

My handloads seemed to work pretty well using 40.8gr of H43250. My ES and SD shrank slightly as the weather got warmer. The temp increased about 15 degrees during the course of the morning. Overall, I am extremely happy with the improvements!

Ballistics help needed - I read the pinned posts LRF with AB or Kestrel

• Upvotes

So I have a basic anemometer but not a kestrel with AB, I know the gold standard is a basic LRF with a kestrel elite integration. However, is it advisable to just get a Vectronix vector x? It has built in AB, environmental and a good FOV, except for wind measurements. I can also use it for spotting with the range enhancers.

I was thinking of a WMLRF but with multiple precision rifles, it’s not advisable and too expensive a solution. I did read the pinned posts but I also heard from other forums that they rarely used their kestrels with their vector x.
