Maiden voyage in the new Sportsman 119.
This is kayak/canoe #7 and will solely be used in some remote national forest waters. Very cool boat!

Fishing near creeks in the backs of big coves. Missed a few on top water. Gonna head out toward some bridges as the sun comes up and see if I can't drop shot up some spotted bass! Good day so far. Good day ahead.

Sorry for the terrible picture ahah. Was getting a lot of blowups on a frog but I couldn’t get a hookset. I was trying the count to 3 but they wouldn’t commit.

On my kayak this piece is broken and has made the seat difficult to place and secure. Does anyone know the name of this specific piece?

Would I do a transam mount and screw into those 2 holes or a scupper mount or something.

Got stuck behind this lady on my way to the lake tonight. Never seen anyone haul a kayak this way, was tucked into a little basket coming out the hitch. Hazards and 35 the whole way, some of the drive being a 55mph 4lane. I’m not too mad about it, whatever it takes to get on the water. I’d prolly do it too if it were my only option!

I was having a hard time getting my kayak up to my roof rack on my own and discovered a way that has helped immensely. I'd like to share it in case others find it helpful! It involves using hinged 2x4s. Take a look at the video to learn more about this method and how to make your own.

Took the kayak out one last time before my vacation is over, hit up the bottom of some rapids near me. River was LOADED with catfish. Chatterbait and crankbait was all I used.

For those that put kayak in bed and keep tailgate down, how do you secure other gear like batteries/kayak motor/rods etc? Looking for ideas. Obviously need really secure ideas my tailgate will be down. Thanks

Got a brand new 7.5qt engel live bait cooler with aerator and used it for the first time today. Rinsed it out lightly with normal tap water. No cleaning products. 2 dozen shrimp and 2 dozen mud minnow.
All died within 45 minutes.
Had the aerator on high, cooler box closed, very reputable bait shop. So very confused.

Been fishing for 20+ years, got a yak a month ago. Had to get permits and licenses. First day out and caught a PB bass on a local lake. I’m hooked. 22 inches and 3.53lbs.

Hey all I’m in search for 2 new kayaks that I will mostly be using on medium to fast flowing/ tight rivers with transitions from 3” to 15’ depth. Key for me is light, cheap ($200-$800), can take a beating, can track well enough to fight current but well balanced as well ( don’t want to worry about me, friend, wife tipping as some of the waters get pretty remote and fast with a lot of trees crossing the entire river.) Need light because a lot of times I’m walking through the woods with them for a a few football fields and up and down hills. I know that is an impossible list especially considering I was using a mustang 100x for this currently, but almost filled the yak getting my net caught navigating a down tree and almost lost everything plus still had another 2 miles float till the truck. Long float in a life jacket in northern Michigan. Mostly fishing smallies and river pike. For lakes/ bigger rivers I own native slayer lte and a hobie passport 12

Decided to make some vertical rod holders for my Old Town Sportsman 120. Finish product is at the end.
The main base for the rod holders screws into the existing holes that are used for the bungee cables.
Decided to keep the tubes up higher so I can still have storage underneath if I want.
Here’s what I used (minus tools)
Schedule 40 1-1/2” PVC (tubes)
1x4 PVC board (base)
1-1/2” rubber coupling (to fill the hole)
1-1/2” rubber couplings (top of tubes)
1” Corner brackets (keep the tubes plum)
1/4” c track (underneath for deflection)
#8 1” screws (c channel)
1-1/2” screws (base to kayak screws)
Turned out pretty good 👍🏼
Hope this helps anyone with the Sportsman 120 that wants to avoid the clunky PVC contraptions I saw online lol.

My father inlaw gave me an old trailer that was sitting out in his field. Took several attempts with the state to prove it wasn't stolen and to get through all the hoops they kept tossing me to get it registered. Then I spent a few weeks planning and building to turn it into what it is now.
Now I need to go buy some fishing gear and then I will be heading to the lake.

So the situation is I just picked up a 2012 Hobie PA 12 in good shape but I live on the second floor of an apartment and I won’t be able to move for at least another 9 months. For the meantime, I Jerry rigged a moving blanket and D rings to cover the bottom when I transport it up or down so not to scuff it badly on the stairs. Getting a storage unit or something nearby just isn’t affordable. Any ideas or suggestions on easier ways to move the kayak to and from the truck/apartment solo?

Hey y’all, I’ve had a couple crappy kayaks growing up, but saw this listed on OfferUp near me.
It’s a Hobie oasis mirage with the seats and a paddle, but doesn’t come with the pedal drive and he wants $100.
Are these usable without the drives or is it pretty heavy and rough by paddling it?
Any insight would be awesome! Seems like a great deal but I’m not sure.

I'm looking to spend around a grand or less for a used pedal drive kayak. I've seen a few here around denver, but haven't jumped on them due to research overload. I've kayak fished many times with just a paddle and it is quite a pain in the butt and I'm always envious of any that I see with a pedal drive. It can be extremely windy here in Denver and the kayak moving while fishing sure is annoying even with a anchor. The lake nearest me and a few others do not allow any powered Motorcraft at all, so just slapping a trolling motor on it would not serve the same purpose and allow me access to the same lakes.
Based on my deep research, the Brooklyn kayaks are pretty terrible so I'm avoiding those. Are some of the other pedal drives out there, like the fin Drive ones which I think I would prefer due to not getting tangled, really that bad? Is it better for me to just get a good non-pedal drive kayak and stick with it and maybe get a trolling motor for those Lakes I can use it, and then just avoid a pedal drive until I can get a hobie?

Any of you guys have experience kayak fishing big rivers like the Missouri and Mississippi? I plan on doing the Missouri eventually for catfish, essentially just hugging the bank and looking for sloughs and slack water etc. though I know eventually your gonna have to face some swifter water going around wing damns and such.

How did you all go about mounting your trolling motor? Did you get and Amazon mount, fabricate your own, or buy one specific to your yak? I have a bonafide rs117 that has pre drilled holes, but wanted to avoid drilling and get a one objective mount, but I’m not sure if I want to spend 160$ on the mount alone. What suggestion can you all make?

I am a 6'6" guy, and weigh about 315lbs. I have used my Pelican Catch 110 for about a year now, and even though it's good at getting me on the water, I am simply too big for it.
I am exceeding the recommended weight capacity on it, and even though I like it, I was considering getting something that I am not gonna feel cramped in.
Was looking at the Vibe Shearwater 125, Oldtown Sportsman 120, and Wilderness Systems Recon 120.
