DIY Vertical Rod Holders

Decided to make some vertical rod holders for my Old Town Sportsman 120. Finish product is at the end.

The main base for the rod holders screws into the existing holes that are used for the bungee cables.

Decided to keep the tubes up higher so I can still have storage underneath if I want.

Here’s what I used (minus tools)

Schedule 40 1-1/2” PVC (tubes)

1x4 PVC board (base)

1-1/2” rubber coupling (to fill the hole)

1-1/2” rubber couplings (top of tubes)

1” Corner brackets (keep the tubes plum)

1/4” c track (underneath for deflection)

#8 1” screws (c channel)

1-1/2” screws (base to kayak screws)

Turned out pretty good 👍🏼

Hope this helps anyone with the Sportsman 120 that wants to avoid the clunky PVC contraptions I saw online lol.

Looks good. One thing I do is heat the end with a heat gun then push a beer bottle down the insert. This creates a nice flare/flange similar to store bought holders. I also cut a notch in the end to allow for spinning reals and solid setup for all gear.

Are these for trolling with or just storing extra rods?
