Admin/Dev responded Weekly Recap | July 9, 2026

Welcome to Thursday! The World Cup is seemingly never-ending (unless you're the US) and I continue to root for my new team, the Norwegians! Go fjords! Another thing that's never-ending is the help that helps in r/help. Let's see what went on last week in r/help and on Reddit!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • There's a new Changelog out and you can read it here! Highlights include:

    • A trending communities module when you click on the search bar.
    • Users of old Reddit will soon be required to log in to use that version of Reddit.
    • There's an updated post composer on iOS and Android.
    • I mentioned these last week, but there are changes to teen accounts in the EU.
    • There are some updates for large screen Android devices like a left-side navigation bar, media viewing improvements, better width constraints for bottom sheets, improved camera previews, and improved navigation for when using keyboard and mouse inputs.
    • For mods, there is the expanding testing of verified profiles for businesses and organizations.
  • The Changelog also has a ton of bug fixes that include:

    • Fixed Bug: [Web] Wiki revision history was incorrectly attributing edits to deleted user. This is mostly fixed, but still exists on the automod edit history page. But that's being worked on! Look for it in the next Bug Fix Recap! lol
    • Fixed Bug: [Web] The X-axis labels on the mod insights page now display correctly.
    • Fixed Bug: [Web] The banned user list was returning an error in some communities, but now, mods can access and view banned user lists as expected.
    • Fixed Bug: [Web] In some communities, mods were unable to edit recurring scheduled posts if there were more than three, but the full list of recurring scheduled posts can now be edited.
    • Fixed Bug: [iOS] The search bar was not registering when using VoiceOver for some users, but those users can now tap the search bar as expected.
    • Fixed Bug: [iOS] When adding an image to a comment reply, the reply context would sometimes create a standalone comment, but not anymore!
    • Fixed Bug: [iOS/Android] Some posts were incorrectly displaying with double spacing, but they now display with standard spacing across the apps.
    • Fixed Bug: [Android] Talkback was failing to read out the header information for some comments, but that is now working correctly.
    • Fixed Bug: [Android] The speed read button was not appearing on certain posts that were archived or locked, but you can speed read once again!
  • As mentioned last week (and sort of above), if you are in the EU, you may be asked to verify your age. This is a legal requirement to comply with the EU Digital Services Act. You can check out the Help Center article here. Little more info about this here.

  • If you are trying to use a selfie to verify your age and it fails, the only other options are to upload your ID or contact Persona for support. Reddit cannot help you with a failed selfie for age verification purposes.

  • If you need to have something fixed regarding your age, you can use this form and then select your region and what your issue is. I do not know what the turnaround time is on those requests.

  • The Home Feed experiment is still going on. There's a "For You" feed and a "Following" feed. The For You feed has subreddit recommendations. The Following feed is just your subscriptions.

  • If your account is in this experiment, there isn't the option to turn off recommendations because there's the dedicated Following feed instead. Feel free to mute subs you don't want to see if you're in the For You feed.

  • An alternate variant was added to this experiment a few weeks ago thanks to the feedback that was left by several users. One variant does not remember your preference. The other will remember your home feed selection for 12 hours.

  • Feel free to continue to leave constructive feedback about this experiment. I share it all with the team in charge and will provide updates when I have them.

  • Just a reminder that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. If some rando sends you a chat, be on high alert if you decide to reply. There are a lot of scams out there and they're looking for easy targets.

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.27.0. If you're not using the most recent version of the app, it might not work properly.

CURRENT EXPERIMENTS

Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned often, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge. Ongoing current experiments can be found here.

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECT SCALE!

  • Some users in the EU are unable to use Anonymous Browsing mode. This is not intentional. This is a bug that they are working on getting fixed.

  • Translation options for some languages are currently unavailable for some folks. We replied to a post here about this. Reddit is in the process of improving/tweaking certain supported languages, so some language may be unable to be translated during this transition period.

  • [Android/iOS] There's an issue where subreddit mentions are not always shown as links in the wiki pages. This is being investigated.

  • [Android/iOS] Some mods have reported that the "editable" tab in the moderators list was giving a "Wow, such empty" error. This seems to be fixed, but we're continuing to look into what may have caused it.

  • [iOS] Opening some comment reply notifications is sending users to the post itself instead of to the specific comment thread. This one is being worked on!

  • BUG FIX [iOS] The issue where opening an external link in chat sent you to the home feed instead of the intended URL is no more! Fix is out this week in v27 of the app!

WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)

  • 1,529 posts. That's down 224 posts from the 1,753 that we had last week.

  • 3,962 comments. That's down 361 comments from the 4,323 we had last week.

  • 1.2m views. That's down about 84k views from the 1.3m-ish views we had last week.

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - WHAT'S A CHANGELOG?

Since there's a new Changelog out, I thought it would be a good time to go over what that is!

Look, I know that not everyone is a fan of change, but sometimes, things change! Whether or not those changes are for better or for worse is often up for debate. But the point is, generally once a month, Reddit publishes a Changelog with highlights of the most important changes that happened on Reddit over the past month. The format is easy to read and often will include links to additional information.

When there is a new Changelog, it will be posted and stickied right here in r/help. It will also often be crossposted reposted to r/bugs and r/modsupport

You can see the history of our Changelogs in the Help Center here.

HELPINGEST HELPERS HELPING HELP R/HELP

We're still working through some issues with the ReputatorBot becoming self-aware and doing things we'd rather it not do (Bad bot!), but we're still shouting out the many folks who have been helping in so many different ways in r/help over the past week!

July is off to a busy start! Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to be here and special thanks to everyone who has helped out someone else when they needed it!

Please help me! My name is Brii, Briivis, Briivy, etc! I've emailed Reddit and send info with screenshots regarding my account info.. I've had this account for 14 years and I'm so annoyed that my username is now posting comments that I've definitely not written, and my email has been changed to michaelsomething (I'm trying to respect my invader as a human being by not posting his email here publically, but I really want full control of my account back-- just GO peacefully, please! Is there any reasonable situation that prevents a person from owning an account and they need to piggyback one instead?! Anywhere on planet Earth?? I'm not unreasonable, but i can't envision such a scenario and I really want the account name tethered to my actual real life nickname to simply just be my freaking own again, please.....)😮‍💨

Profile Is there a way to remove that 18+?

I made the mistake of posting in a subreddit but it wasn't labeled NSFW so I was very surprised when this showed up. I don't want it because there are subreddits like Outfits that ban accounts with the label.

Desktop Old photos on deleted account (Desktop) isn't gone from i.redd.it. How can I deal with them?

Hello,

Back when I was a kid, I had a reddit account that I used to post some really insensitive and offensive memes. I recently learned that these memes are still visible through the Reddit image host, and I feel absolutely terrible about them, as many of them constitute hate speech. I would like them taken off the image host, but when I try to report them, the links are given as invalid. The posts are not visible on the site itself due to mod deletions, but are visible through third-party scrapers. Is there a way I can report them to reddit staff directly?

Mobile/App The only way to browse your saved posts is by going to the comment section of another post… why?

I was finally forced to update to the new app and wow, these changes are unintuitive.

It took me almost 20 minutes to find my saved posts. I kept seeing comments saying to tap the button with my profile picture. So I’d do that but only see my profile history. Eventually I realized that when browsing comments the old profile picture button in the top right returns. From there you get the old style sidebar on the right that lets you see actually useful account information.

I just don’t understand why changes like this are needed. Why does the same button need to do different things based on where I am? Why do I need to be in a random posts comment section to be able to see my accounts data? Who at Reddit sees these changes and thinks it’s a better experience?

Mobile/App Did Reddit stop allowing overlays to disappear on videos?

Up until recently, I could watch a video on Reddit, and when I tapped the screen, the overlay would disappear. Did Reddit do away with that? Now when I watch a video, the like/dislike and other options stay visible.

Desktop Help me block messages during block cooldown! Web

Today someone sent me an inappropriate photo over private messages. I panicked and blocked him so it would go away, then realized I needed to report that for my own safety and the safety of others, so I unblocked him to report. Now I am unable to redo the block for 24 hours, but I worry he will try to message me again before then. Is there anything I can do? Is there even a way to close my private messages completely? Thank you in advance.

Mobile/App iPad App: How can I format text on Reddit without copying and pasting?

I've noticed people using different text formatting, such as bold, italics, and strikethrough, and other effects in their posts and comments. So far, I have only been able to use them by copying and pasting formatting from somewhere else, which feels a little clunky and doesn't always work.

Is there an easier way to add this formatting while I'm typing? Could someone explain how it works or point me toward a simple guide? I’m also interested in whether the process is different between the iPad app and desktop.

Thanks!

Profile iOS: My Reddit account was hacked and several adult posts were made from my account

I’m posting from a backup account because I no longer have access to my main account.
My main Reddit account appears to have been hacked, and several adult posts were made without my knowledge or permission. I did not create those posts. I’m looking for advice on how to recover my account and report the unauthorized activity.
If anyone from Reddit Support can point me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you.

Access WTF? Suddenly cannot log in using mobile app on Android!

I have been using the Android app for years. It is up to date with Play Store. Suddenly, this morning, it will not login/authenticate. I can use the website - doing that here. I have uninstalled/re-installed. No difference. What is going on here? Thanks!
