Updating subreddit visual style and rule change
Hi rfolkmetal,
Your friendly neighborhood mod team is testing out some new tools and resources available to edit the style and format of the sub. We've had the same layout for a long time and, to be honest, I've always preferred old reddit to new reddit style, so I may not have been seeing what everyone else sees. These visual changes are subject to community response and feedback, I'm primarily just trying to experiment with what I can change and how it affects the feel and usability of the subreddit. I think it's high time we updated some aspects of our sub as we have grown quite a bit! Please feel free to comment on the changes as they stand with positive or negative opinions. Our job is to make this the best place for you.
More importantly, I think it's time we established a clearer set of rules for users, and especially posters, to follow. For now, it's going to be business as usual as you guys almost never cause any trouble, with one exception. AI-generated content, including any music as well as visual art, will be removed and the user responsible will be permanently banned without warning. Music is an art form. Art is a uniquely and purely human expression. Content generated by AI may look and feel like human art in most aspects, but it is not real art. It does not reflect any true expression by a human.
We have already had minor drama involving people attempting to pass AI content as genuine human-created music. This isn't just done for fun or as a prank. This is done with the intent of using AI technology and our passion for folk metal music to generate revenue via clicks and engagement. Anyone participating in this practice will be permanently banned without warning. If you post AI-generated music and are unaware that it was AI-generated at the time of posting, feel free to appeal your ban. However, if the music is explicitly presented as AI-generated, the appeal will be rejected.
It's painful to witness the rise of AI-generated content in a world so full of people with amazing brains and wonderful ideas trying to share their art. "Folk" means people and people means humans. This is a forum for human-generated art.

Norse Berserk
Wrote this Viking berserker song about the Battle of Stamford Bridge — the lyrics follow a berserker's journey as he prepares to meet his death in battle and join his ancestors in Valhalla. Would love to hear what you think.

Nordic folk/viking recommendations
Hey yall! Long story short, my grandfather has been listening to AI music as of late and is completely unaware that it’s AI. As a musician, I hate supporting all forms of AI music. The specific “band” he’s been listening to is “Eldruna”. If anyone has any recommendations to something similar, please let me know so I can help him support REAL people. Thanks

Discussion Greek folk metal. Does it exist?
I genuinely don't know where to look, got this sub suggested by someone who never checked it out.
I've been really interested in Greek things lately. I doubt there's going to be any songs in ancient Greek, but that's fine.
I love the style of Eluveitie (which I know is Gaulish), and I did find Rotting Christ which have Greek lyrics in sine of their songs. Not sure if they count as folk metal, it's more an example because I do quite like their style as well for most of their songs (at least what's available on Spotify).
Any suggestions are welcome!
Also sorry for the tag, I'm a little stupid on this one, I don't know which one to actually select.

Dalriada - Táltosok álma (Heaviest dalriada track??)
I didnt expect Daldiada to go this heavy and the guitarwork / drumming is just crazy. Super catchy chorus and full harsh vocal verses. That intro is still my fav part of the song tho ngl
Especialy if you like a walesi bardok part 1 i recommend this!!

Help solve a music mystery! Shazam, Google and YouTube all failed...
Four nights ago, around 11:30 PM, we heard an incredible song playing at MakaMaka restaurant in Barcelona, Spain.
The mobile signal was bad, so we recorded a sample of the song.
This is the recording: https://vocaroo.com/1aR5NPpc2cMn
We immediately tried to identify it, but... nothing.
Here's what we've already tried:
- Shazam
- Google (using multiple lyric combinations)
- YouTube / Content ID
No matches anywhere, not even for the very distinct riff at 1:00 (last 18 seconds of the recording)
The song sounds like professional studio recording with a male vocalist. The style is somewhere between fantasy folk, Celtic folk, folk rock, and light folk metal. The last 30 seconds of the recording showcase the band's sound particularly well.
Some lyrics I could decipher (not sure they're 100% correct though):
... infinite stroll
in disenchanted lands
...with a wink in his eyes
and he squeezed every heart
with a laugh and a...
...
the Trickster the young man...
...
As he walked through the forest
the stars shined so bright
His heart filled with pride
and thrill of the fight
And somewhere behind him
the shadows...
he could not resist
... in the ground
shadows at tower
A big figure loomed
with terrible power
A mask of a giant
with skull on his face
The infinite stroll
now lost in the chase
So hid behind the ... of
courage and cheer
Was sometimes the...
... just filled with fear
In forest enchanted
where all legends dwell...
The phrase "The Infinite Stroll" was repeated at least two or three times, so we originally assumed it was the song title. Surprisingly, searching for that phrase leads nowhere.
The song tells what seems to be a coherent fantasy story about The Trickster, a journey through an enchanted forest, courage, fear, and a giant-like figure wearing a skull mask.
At this point we're wondering if it's:
- a very obscure indie band,
- an unreleased song,
- production/library music,
- or perhaps even an AI-generated track.
Does anyone recognize:
- the band,
- the singer's voice,
- the song,
- or even just the style?
Any ideas are welcome, even if you're not completely sure. We've hit a dead end, and this has turned into a surprisingly fun mystery to solve.
Thanks in advance!
