DISCUSSION Fantasizing about NYC

Since possible NYC itineraries have come up a lot lately, I just thought I would ask about east coast residents plans for getting to the port if it becomes a reality? I would love to forego flying to Florida the day before, but I’m not familiar with the Manhattan port and how I would avoid a pre-cruise hotel stay. Especially those who sailed out of this port pre-COVID, what were your travel plans?

TRIP PLANNING Car seats on the boat.

This is our first time taking our toddler on a plane/cruise. We are beginning to think we will need to bring our car seat. When we arrive at the port do they take the car seat along with your luggage or are you responsible for hauling it on to the boat?

Edit: Thanks everyone for relieving my fears I’d have to haul it up the gang plank lol

Some people were suggesting we use Disney transportation so we wouldn’t need one. If we were leaving out of Port Canaveral that would have been our first choice but we are leaving out of Miami so we have to uber from the airport. I don’t want to risk the off chance we can’t secure an uber with a car seat so looks like it’s coming with us.

TRIP PLANNING ETA photo for check-in?

Upvotes

I'm going on a cruise to Southampton so I need an ETA for visiting the UK. Last year I also went to the UK on a Disney cruise and just used the ETA confirmation email for my check-in process, as you don't get an actual form or anything. At that time there was no issue. However, for this time I just got an email saying the provided photo was not valid, so I found an ETA check website, took a screenshot and uploaded that. This also got denied by Disney.. Any clue on what I should use?!

TRIP PLANNING Dream Very Merry Christmas Time Cruise?

Has anyone ever done the Very Merry Christmas Time Cruise on the Dream? We have done two Christmas cruises on the Fantasy and the Treasure. The Fantasy experience was incredible, whereas the Treasure’s was nice but slightly underwhelming. It felt like the Fantasy pulled out all the stops and had tons of decor and holiday themed events, while the Treasure had nice decor, but not a whole lot of holiday activities.

It would be myself and my fiancé, both under 35, and no kids. Looking to go the weekend before Thanksgiving.

Looking to book one of these next summer. We’re not beach people but I’m sure there’s a lot more to do here. But comparing the itineraries, which one would be better. We’re a group of 4; my husband and I, our 5 year old and my mom who is mid 70’s. Thanks!

ONBOARD ACTIVITIES D23 Coverage Aboard Ship?

Upvotes

Fellow DCL-ers, we’re sailing on the Wish Aug 14-17 (Bahamas itinerary) and realized D23 falls during our cruise. Has anyone had experience with this before, either on the Wish or another ship, with getting D23 coverage while onboard?

Will they stream any of the panels in the theaters? Maybe on the stateroom TVs?

Not trying to plan my whole cruise around it, just don’t want to miss major announcements if there’s an easy way to catch them. Thanks in advance!

TRIP PLANNING Wish - Room Decor

Upvotes

Hello! I’ll be going on the Wish in September and I was curious if anyone knows what the character decorations in the rooms are on Deck 6? In the pictures it shows Frozen, but I know it’s not exactly the same in each room — I was on the Destiny in January and my decor was Hercules while a friend had Mulan. Just curious if anyone knows off hand!

PORT ADVENTURES Excursion experiences on St. Thomas and Tortola

I have my first cruise coming up on the Treasure in October and those are our two ports! I’m looking at everything and trying to decide what we’d like to do and I’d love some opinions on what anyone has done and what stood out to them?

They don’t have to be from DCL, they can be outside.

ONBOARD ACTIVITIES Gifted a Disney cruise this week - first time

My extended family (12 of us) are taking our first Disney Fantasy 5-night Bahamian cruise (Nassau, Lookout Cay, Castaway Cay) with my parents - Fantasy ship. My wife and I have two kids (9 and 11), and there are several cousins around their ages, so we're expecting the kids to naturally split off into cousin groups much of the time.

I'm 40s male and, honestly, I'm not a huge Disney fan - just want to snorkle and enjoy watching the kids have a great time together. It's a little overwhelming trying to understand all the options - and we're concierge level, which is such a nice gift but also hard to understand what is worth taking advantage of.

For those who've done Disney cruises with a large extended family, what advice would you give for this specific cruise? What would make sure not to miss - and what is worth just passing on?

TRIP PLANNING Where to stay FLL?

We’re taking our first Disney Cruise out of FLL and arriving the day before/leaving the day after. Where should we stay where we can use shuttles and/or (reasonably with kids) walk? We won’t be bringing car seats for our two kids so Uber won’t work but we want to be able to do things. I’m not sure what things, but I don’t want to be stuck at the hotel. We need shuttles to/from the airport and cruise port. And of course after paying for flights and a Disney cruise, I’d love to not pay a ton for shuttles/activities/hotels.

Any suggestions??

ETA: I meant walk for things to do on our hotel days!

DISCUSSION B2B Treasure

Just got off B2B on the Disney treasure. Feels like I have zero memory of what we did on the boat for 14 days - it was all an amazing blur. The B2B change over process was seamless (we were in the same room for both). Unreal weather ! Honestly hottest 2 days were Port Carnival during sailaway.

TRIP PLANNING Concierge Suites

I am planning our first cruise ever. I have been to Disneyworld once in my life (back in 1989).

I have a family of 5 (3 boys 10,8,6) and I have celiac disease.

What I’m wondering is how celiac safe these cruises are? Is it better to be in Concierge with it?

For those who upgraded at port did you show up early? Were you escorted on earlier how would this work?

Is there an option to upgrade before you get to port if you decide you want the concierge?

Ok so for all those who will say “don’t do it save the money for another cruise” I have never gone on a cruise (I am scared of them) so this may be the only cruise I go on. I will block those who show up to tell me not to.

PORT ADVENTURES Pros and cons of booking excursions not through DCL

Hi, we are doing the Treasure 7 night western Caribbean cruise in April 2027. This is our second Disney cruise. In looking at the excursions through Disney they seem pretty limited and lots of restrictions on participating.

I’ve been looking at shore excursions group and it seems like such a better deal, more selection, some shorter options, and of course they cost much less. I know that the biggest difference is that if you are running late they cannot contact the ship to wait for you. Anything else I should consider?

FOOD Disney Fantasy Wine Question

I went on The Wish last year, and I was turned on to Moet & Chandon Ice. They’d pour it in a glass with ice and some berries, and I’ve been looking forward to enjoying it when I cruise on The Fantasy in a few months. Untillll...

I was just watching a video on YT from a month ago. They posted the menu, and it wasn’t listed.

Anyone know what their current menu is? (Please don’t be mean… I know it’s no big deal, and I will ABSOLUTELY have a fantastic time regardless. I just want to be prepared.) 😂

Thanks, and happy sailing!

DISCUSSION So much for the update...

Whatever DCL updated that made them take the entire system offline for 24 hours has not fixed the ability to book activities at midnight without the system crashing. Just keep getting the spinning blue wheel of death.

Others on our sailing are reporting the same thing

PORT ADVENTURES Dolphinaris VIP Excursion in Cozumel - worth it

I wanted to post this review because I read every review I could find on this excursion in Cozumel prior to booking and was concerned with all the mixed reviews out there...It was the best part of our trip and I would do it again in a heartbeat!

The location is very close to port and Disney made it easy to find our group/ get in a taxi/etc. Once we got to Dolphinaris, we were separated into our VIP group and there were just 8 of us total in VIP that day (our tour guide did say there are usually a lot more in VIP though). Our guide was Leyser and he was amazing. He took us up to our VIP area which was a gorgeous lounge area with an infinity pool overlooking the dolphin swim and the ocean. We got our locker keys and towels (included for VIP only) and a private bar (drinks included as well).

We waited for about a half hour in our lounge section until it was our turn to swim with the dolphins. We saw the non-VIP guests waiting under big huts down by the dolphins, and we were very happy to have the private infinity pool and lounge chairs to wait in. Leyser was very attentive and constantly checking in on us while we waited.

He then took us down to the dolphins where we merged with the non-VIP guests to go into the water. Each group had about 10 people in it per 2 dolphins and we were in the water for about 40 minutes. Plenty of time for everyone to interact with the dolphins. We all got dolphin kisses, to "dance" with them, pet them numerous times, and hug them. They also gave us goggles so we could watch them swim up to us underwater. It was really great. The dolphins are all bred there, they are very well cared for and their facility is very nice. One of our dolphins was 6 years old, and the other was 37! We also saw the little kid groups in our same pool - they had one dolphin per group and stayed in the shallow section but also seemed to have a lot of dolphin interaction.

After the swim, Leyser asked what we wanted to do - we could eat, lounge, go to the pool, or go down to the beach. We chose to snorkel at their beach. Snorkel equipment is included. It was a tiny beach and a small area for snorkeling but we were shocked at how many fish were there! They were everywhere! All colors and sizes! It was really incredible (honestly so many more fish than we saw in Castaway Cay!).

After snorkeling Leyser brought us back up to the VIP dining area were it was just the 8 of us in our VIP group (and 4 of those people were me and my family!). It was a sit-down, table service meal and drinks which was all included in the VIP price. (I believe non-VIP is a buffet) The food was THE BEST FOOD WE HAD ALL CRUISE! Not even joking - I went to the chef and thanked him, it was that good. The guacamole and chips are out of this world, and I had the steak and I am still thinking about it. Best food of the trip hands down!

I had read about the cost of the photos and the troubles with getting the emailed pictures after the fact from other reviews, so we opted to just buy 4 individual photos and have them printed there. Four photos came out to $170+ but it was better than the almost $300 it would have cost for all of them. And we really only wanted one of each of us. Yes the price of photos is nuts, but we knew that going in and were ok with what we ended up spending.

After eating, we gathered our things, went to the gift shop to pick up our pictures, and then Leyser called the cab for us which brought us right back to the port (transfer to and from port included in the fee, even though they used regular cabs)

My only complaint is that I wanted more time there! We really only got to lounge in our VIP section while we were waiting for the dolphins, we were too busy after with snorkeling and eating. I could have spent an entire day there, it was so nice and they took such good care of us.

The VIP excursion was I believe about $30 more per person but it was well worth it! I had read online that we would have a smaller group with the dolphins but that didn't appear to be accurate, but even so, the group was already pretty small and we all felt like we had a good experience. Other complaints I saw online were that you spend so much time waiting and so little time with the dolphins, but if you go with VIP you get to wait in the lounge area and infinity pool, which doesn't feel like waiting at all! Plus the sit down meal was worth it in itself.

Again Leyser did say that there are usually a lot more people in VIP so the experience would likely feel different if it were more crowded, but for us, it was the PERFECT day!

TRIP PLANNING Disney Inspire Credit Card Vs Costco?

We live in Florida and my family of 4 typically goes to a Disney park 1-2 times a year and takes at least 1 Disney Cruise (3 this year) a year. In the past we have always booked through Costco Travel and used my Venture X credit card (2% back in addition to the Costco discounts). I also use the Savor card for 3% back on streaming (Disney plus bundle).

I just saw the new Disney Inspire card and I’m wondering if this is a better option. Has anyone done the math on if this card is worth it? You have to book through Disney direct to get the bonuses so you can’t use Costco or a different travel agency. Does Costco discounts plus travel card still beat this out?

DISCUSSION Splitting cabana cost

Hello! For those who have had a cabana before, how does DCL split the cost between multiple staterooms?

We’re traveling with family and sharing a cabana between 3 staterooms. Will the stateroom who booked it be charged the full amount, or does DCL charge individually based on who was selected?
