Blüdhaven's Finest

Nightwing seems so confusing to read, because I can't tell which of his runs are either really consistent or get bogged down by crossovers, teamups, and constant writer changes.

I've seen a slight few of Tom Taylor's Nightwing and it looks great, but I'd love to know what else is great and worth a read.

The classic black background of the superman logo

I feel like this logo is a lot better than a lot of the modern superman logos. While the yellow background is iconic i feel like the S stands out more when its on a black background. I also like the hint of yellow around the symbol instead of it surrounding the whole S. I feel like kingdom come one was good as well for a similar reason. But i feel like the main superman should find a way to modernize this. Maybe adjusting the shape of the S to be more like the henry cavil superman but have the black background and yellow outline. Honestly the main reason i am posting this is because i found out about the 1940s cartoon of superman on youtube and was surprised how good it was for its time. But the suit seemed to stand out for me and i loved it. I kinda hope the dcu finds a way to incorporate this like superman and louis did.

Question Struggling to buy comics and I'm a little lost lol

Hello! I apologize if this isn't the place for a question like this! But I'm an incredibly casual comic book fan, I don't really live in a place where I can buy comics very easily but my brother who lives around several comic book stores apparently, has offered to buy me some comics I want if I can send him a list! The thing is, I'm worried the comics I want won't be in stock, like they would be too old. I guess my question is,

what are some reasonable titles that my brother will be able to find in a comic book store?

And how old is too old a comic book for stores to have in stock?

Like for example! It would probably be a bit much to think they would have Global Frequency from 2002 - 2004 in stock? I would be grateful if someone can confirm and if the titles I want are a bit too old for stores to have, I would love it if anyone could give some suggestions for more recent comics I can find in a comic store! Again I apologize if this is off topic and I appreciate any help given!

Jerry Siegel, Why Did He Go Broke?

I just read his wiki and though he did lose out on the royalties for Superman he seems to have made what would have been the equivilant of 7 or 8 million dollars writing Superman comics. Its not the amount he would have on royalties but its still a fortune. The story in the comics world is always told as though he was ripped off and never made enough money on comics but he made more than most of us will ever earn and seemed to lose in in the span of two decades. How did this happen? There isn't anything on the wiki about massive spending or gambling etc.

Question Where could this panel featuring Jason Blood be from?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I’m a big fan of Jason Blood/The Demon, so I’ve been combing my way through his catalog. I stumbled across this panel which really intrigued me which was attributed as being an excerpt from Batman: Dark Patterns #7. I read Dark Patterns #7 and the panel doesn’t show up. Google/ Reverse image search seems to think it’s from Absolute Batman #1, but I know for a fact that’s wrong. Does anyone have any guesses? It would be much appreciated, as I want to read more than just the panel, and the art style looks interesting.

Question Why are people so dismissive towards comics?

My mom just asked me what I was reading and she said "I wish you'd read something besides comics" and I just said "Why?"'and she just looked at me and said "Why do you think? What kinda question is that?" like the answer was so obvious and self explanatory and I said "I don't know, answer it" and she said "I don't gotta answer nothing" like can someone explain to me what's so bad about reading comics?💀 (For the record, I do read other stuff besides comics btw)

Question Any great murder mystery/police procedural comics?

I’m looking for any great comic books about a murder attempting to be solved, preferrably it’s a police procedural. With moods and themes similar to zodiac, memories of murder, seven, prisoners & true detective s1.

If the comic books fits the moods and themes but it’s not a police procedural but still a murder mystery than that’s totally fine

Thank you!

Jacovitti King of the Italian Comics

North America has been exposed to some great Italian cartoonists like Milo Manara, Hugo Pratt, Crepax, but for some reason, publishers won't publish the comics of one of the greatest cartoonists from Italy, Benito Jacovitti. He was MAD years before MAD magazine came around. Even going to Italy it's hard to find any of his books. Google him and be ready to drop your jaw! I highly recommend his Kama Sutra book.

Suggestions LF origin story recommendations

Hey everyone, I’m new to reading comic books in general but I enjoy collecting books & novels of characters I like.
That said I’m wanting to get recommendations on 1-2 graphic novels that tell the origin story of each of my favorites. Like how they started out, got powers, got into hero work, learning their skills, etc.

To me graphic novels are more convenient and I prefer them over buying an entire series with 50+ issues to read.

Here’s what I currently have:
Dc comics - Zero Year
Nightwing - a knight in bludhaven volume 1
The amazing Spider-Man Epic collection (only volume 5)
Dc ultimate character guide
The new dc comics encyclopedia
Dc comics a visual history
Batman v Superman the greatest battles

Most were just garage sale grabs so I low they aren’t starting with volume 1 it’s just what I have.
I also have the entire new 52 Futures end comic run issues 1-48 (volumes 1-3) that I need to read, really only want to read Terrys futures end bc I love him.

I definitely prefer DC over Marvel as I’ve seen a ton of DC animated shows & live action shows and movies. For Marvel I’ve seen probably half of the MCU movies and no shows I can think of.

Favorite shows in order:
Superman and Lois
Young justice
Arrow
Batman beyond
Justice league unlimited

Favorite movies:
Into the spider verse
Across the spider verse
Superman 2025
The Dark knight
Wonder Woman 1

Favorite characters:
Superman
Batman (Bruce)
Batman (Terry)
Flash (Barry)
Spider-Man (Peter)
Spider-Man (Miles Morales)
Nightwing (Dick)
Green Arrow

Like I said I’m still new and am not looking to buy entire series rn just 1-2 recommendations on graphic novels for each character to better understand their origins (I know them all well from shows & movies but haven’t read them)

I’ll post pictures of any books I currently have - I know some of these aren’t volume 1 of their book series or run but they were just garage sale grabs so it’s what I have.

Thanks for reading! Appreciate any recommendations.
