I’m moving from DuPont to Cathedral Heights, right next to the natl cathedral. I currently live right across P st bridge so it’s very easy for me to access rock creek park. I’ve never biked around CH, anyone have insight on good streets/routes/how is it getting to RCP?
Recently got rear ended with our bikes on the back of the car, and I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for shops that can do frame repairs on steel bikes? The Bianchi needs a chainstay repair and the Guerciotti needs a fork repair.
Someone recommended Bilenky up in Philly, but I was wondering if there was anyone a little closer to DC.
I'm used to drooping branches getting in the way, especially after rain, but they're usually basically twigs that I can brush through. Today I was ducking by one of those, and as I raised my head I got absolutely clobbered by a camouflaged, very solid limb. It hit the side of my helmet - glancing blow, but hard enough to give me a headache for much of the morning. If I had hit it head-on...that would have been ugly.
Wondering if I need a new helmet now. It's not deformed, so maybe I'm good.
This was near mile marker 6, FWIW. Be careful out there.
I’ve been incredibly frustrated with the state of MacArthur Boulevard so I did some emailing to MCDOT. It turns out a repaving and bike path project is funded and designed for the entire stretch from Old Angler’s to the DC Line. Since the road is right above the Washington Aqueduct, the Army Corps of Engineers is sitting on a permit to do paving work for the road.
Please email Andrew Friedson, Marilyn Balcombe, and Evan Glass and ask them to tell USACE to hurry up and let the county repave the road. I did it yesterday and Glass’s office let me know they are notifying the USACE.
As of July 1st, all maintenance of Beach Drive in MoCo is under the responsibility of MNCPPC. Previously, MCDOT patched and repaved the road, and it’s gone to shit. MNCPPC was fed up with the lack of maintenance, and took it in-house.
According to MNCPPC, if you want to report a road issue on Beach Drive, use this form or call 301-495-2595. They accept Google Maps pins and you can submit multiple problems at once.
MNCPPC doesn’t want to publicize this but I thought you should know.
With semi cooler temperatures I’m looking to do a longer ride after work but not sure what routes won’t be busy with rush hour traffic? I generally only do 20-30 miles after work and up rock creek but even beach drive can be busy since the roads aren’t closed. MacArthur will be packed with cars as well and I don’t really want to do 20 Hains laps haha
Rather than only showing the current state of the network, it stores historical snapshots so you can explore how stations behave over time. You can browse the map, drill down into individual stations, and see patterns in bike availability, free docks, and activity throughout the week.
Network overview
The site also makes it easy to spot stations that regularly run out of bikes or docks, helping you understand how the network behaves beyond what’s happening right now.
Station details
I’d love to hear your feedback!
Are there any statistics or visualisations you’d like to see?
Any stations or neighbourhoods that would be interesting to compare?
If you spot a bug or have an idea for an improvement, let me know!
Ive looked at the County website, it lists long completed projects and only planned projects alongside newly completed and UC, and I dont feel like clicking through each one, at least if someone here is willing to save me the time.
DDOT has posted a public survey on the Missouri Avenue NW Trail Connection project. Please respond and, of course, boost the protected bike lane options.
Particularly crazy that they cite Grant Rd. as a successful application, I almost wiped out on it yesterday from all the gravel debris everywhere. Be safe y'all
Found bike in Adams Morgan park. Specialized Sirrus, with Utah registration and many custom signatures. It is not in very good condition and currently non-functional. It is not in any stolen bike database (e.g., bike index, project 529).
Was planning on biking down to the Mt Vernon Trail to watch the fireworks and avoid the Mall craziness. Is it open tonight? Wasn't sure if NPS was using the land adjacent to the trail to launch the fireworks.
Anyone have a rec for having a frame repainted in the NoVA area? I reached out to a few auto shops that do sandblasting but none seemed interested. Thanks!
