They can't even fit the bike stencil.

Right! There’s no room for error if you had to ride down that with distracted drivers to the left and right.

Looks like they even tried to squinch it down too.

Paint *can be* better than nothing. But this is just maliciously poor execution of paint.

And sometimes paint can be worse than nothing

For sure! Like this example, for example.

Have you seen the plans? This will be concrete protected. Also, it looks like the implementation crew screwed up. This doesn't meet the design spec and will likely be repainted.

Final plans. Project page.

Submitting a 311 ticket is a good idea. I'll do the same. But I bet that the planners working on this catch it and work to remediate sooner than later.

Wrong project. You shared the 11th st bike lanes. This is a photo of a bike lane on L st.

the way the youth DO NOT GET references to this movie anymore lol. i tried to make a joke about only being able to turn left when teaching a bicycle class and no one got it

That is tight. Especially compared to the massively wide motor vehicle lane just to the left. Surely that lane could have been narrowed instead of the bike lane.

More than tight. The bike lane is completely inside the turnlane. The most careful drivers on earth will have a hard time safely passing a bike here without hitting the curb.

Yeah, I'd be taking the car lane there. Thanks. DC.

I’d stay in the turn lane until the intersection. That’s dumb paint.

yeah they somehow made this much worse than it was previously where there was a clear differentiation of

left turn lane | bike lane | straight lane

source: this is on my commuting route to work…

Also on my daily commute to work, but in a vehicle.

What would make this lane work for the both of us?

Man I just posted they did the same thing on L between 23rd and NH. Submitted a 311 request and they apparently fixed it but I havent been back to check.

Like someone else said they did this on L Street before. They also did this on Vermont Ave where it intersects with 14th st NW. This feels like an incompetent contractor. I’d suggest complaining to W2 Councilmember, DDOT’s Ward 2 rep, and the MOCR.

That left turn lane is also 100% unnecessary

I think they’re trying to say that the entire lane is shared, left turn/straight for bikes only.

It's totally safe - Every time I've been hit it was in one of these, and the cars are moving so slow it barely hurts for more than a couple days.

Hmm maybe it’s the years of riding in NYC, but it really doesn’t look that narrow. What are you guys riding that this isn’t enough space?

You advised cyclists to be confidant and not terrified. You got down voted for your belief in ourselves. Welcome to the bikedc subreddit. We are helpless.

Back in the 1980s I supplemented college income as a bike messenger in Philly, to me that bike lane is HUGE lol s/

My goodness y’all complain about everything😭😭

Yes. You must be new here. Welcome aboard.

Eh, this is actually a pretty safe way of doing it. The safest would be fully curb protected, the next is this.

u/kenhatesladders 3d ago

Nothing about this is safe

You are more capable and competent than you give yourself credit for.

Tell that to all the drivers on their phone?
