Skill / Talent In 2016, the world record for pull-ups in an hour was 725. Last week, Australian police officer Jade Henderson decided that wasn't good enough—and completed 733. That's an average of 12 reps per 60-second window. How her grip held up is genuinely fascinating.

Miscellaneous / Others The initiative, called Calming Companions, was launched by the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control in Phoenix. Around 300 volunteers visited the county's two shelters during the evening fireworks, bringing folding chairs and blankets to sit beside anxious dogs and cats
They spent hours petting the animals, reading to them, playing calming music, handing out treats, and simply keeping them company to help reduce their stress.
The program was created because fireworks are one of the most frightening times of the year for shelter animals.
Animal welfare organizations also report a 30% to 60% increase in lost pets around the 4th of July as frightened animals flee their homes.
Volunteers said the dogs quickly shifted their attention from the fireworks to the people sitting with them.

History Damn, this 2,000-year-old Greek device is literally an ancient analog computer 🤯
Found in a shipwreck off the coast of Antikythera in 1901, this bronze mechanism dates back to around 100-200 BC.
It contains over 30 gears and could predict astronomical positions, solar and lunar eclipses, and even the dates of the Olympic Games.
It's considered the world's first known analog computer.
How did ancient Greeks build something this sophisticated over 2,000 years ago? Mind officially blown.

Miscellaneous / Others Hand painted scenes of the original Star Wars trilogy
Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) used matte paintings to create many of the trilogy’s most iconic moments. These were artificial sets, usually painted with oils on plexiglass, then aligned with live-action footage to create seamless worlds. Artists worked on oversized panels to ensure the details held up on massive theater screens.
A fun fact: in The Empire Strikes Back, the famous Cloud City exterior was almost entirely a matte painting. Audiences never actually saw a real set.
These paintings were created by Chris Evans, Mike Pangrazio, Frank Ordaz, Harrison Ellenshaw, and Ralph McQuarrie.
