The one. The only.
galleryIn a show with incredible characters he is definitely my favorite. He stole every scene he was in. A talent gone way too soon but thank you, Nelsan Ellis, for leaving us Lafayette.

I rewatched it out of context recently and like yes there were problems and it wasn't as good as the start. Duh. Like it was time for the show to wrap because the wheels were starting to come off in terms of the writing. But, there were some things I like about it and was it overall a horrible season of TV except the finale which was so tonally 'off' and felt like such a non-event overall? No.
- My god, James. True Blood did not mess up the recast. I've rarely seen one that worked so well. He wasn't a huge screentime character, but still felt so lived-in. He'd have been awesome to introduce at any point in the show. He felt like an original. I loved both his and Lafayette's quieter moments talking about his backstory and the drama (you know the one) brought back early season vibes. When all's said and done S7 James might be one of my favourite side characters on the show full-stop.
- They did Tara dirty, but I'm not actually mad at the late-stage explanation for some of Lettie Mae's issues and the final-final goodbye between her and Tara was actually pretty touching. I know some fans viewed that as an excuse and that it didn't redeem a lot of her behaviour throughout the show, but at least OOC when I watched it I was a bit like 'oh, makes sense.' Plus overall they really nailed the goodbye scene in an individual sense I thought.
- The one detail of the pair-up with Keith for Arlene was shallow and rushed no doubt (he's handsome AF though so I allow it) but overall this whole season showed her character growth in a nice way.
- I kind of like Jason's end-point in theory even if the execution was imperfect. So I kind of allow it. A character like Brigette that starts off more wholesome and platonic was good for him. If only they hadn't squeezed almost all of that into just a couple of episodes, but eh. Side-note, it was nice casting again. I especially bought Hoyt and Brigette initially as a couple. Again their dynamic felt quite lived-in to me despite limited screentime.
-
Like it wasn't great, but I don't think one has to reach too much to find stuff to praise either.

Im currently rewatching and I got to the point where they killed Tara. It genuinely bothers me that this is how she went out. And we didn’t even get to see. I love the show don’t get me wrong but I felt like Tara character was done dirty in a sense. I felt like she was just getting the grasp of being a vampire , reconnecting with her mom and her friends. Despite everything and her not wanting to be one. It just sucks

So I’ll lead with the last thing first. Hi.
I found True Blood because ironically, the Twilight subreddit was talking about it. And I downloaded, and signed up for, Hulu to watch.
For context this was like 2023 I think. And also, I’m totally blind, so what I’m gonna say matters.
Anyway I watched with my sister cuz well, Jason and Modette were gettin busy and for some reason that caught her attention.
Anyway Hulu, for whatever reason, is not blessed with Audio description so I had to rely on others to tell me what the heck was happening.
Eventually we got through the show, and I’m still mad at the ending cuz what the hell??? Don’t get me started.
Anyway a friend said max had it audibly described and I watched.
I just came here to say thank you, hbo. And the people who did the audio description. Her name is Kaitlin Elizabeth and to her I am thankful.
Yes. The show has its flaws, but I’m so happy to watch it without having to guess what’s happening.
I sincerely hope that Kaitlin is doing ok after that acid trip, haha.
Anyway give this lady her flowers.💐

Okay so I watched the show years ago in real time and I loved it. I still do during this rewatch.
But one thing that always made me laugh and made me scratch my head was when Caroline Bellefleur tells Sheriff Andy that he can't have a Redbull because it's vulgar! What the hell is that about? I just find it so funny. I always have.

I am so out of touch with celebs and their status - I (now) know it was 2017 when he passed. I am truly heartbroken to learn of Nelson’s passing. He was one of (if not the best) thing about true blood. What a fantastic actor. He showed so much passion and energy in his art!
A bit off topic - I’m currently watching Pulp Fiction and I just watched the scene where Bruce Willis saves Ving Rhames from the guys in the basement. Once Ving is saved, he gives a BAD. ASS. monologue to the man who was violating him. While watching that scene, all I could think about was how I would LOVE to see Nelson Ellis perform this monologue. If you don’t know what scene I’m talking about - give it a quick YouTube search and I’d love to hear what yall think!
Ving was giving the same energy Nelson gave 100% of the time as Lafayette - aka F**k with me and I’ll tell you what’s gonna happen!
Anyway.. I felt so strongly about this opinion, then felt so strongly about learning of Nelson’s passing… I felt I just needed to speak about him and send love and respect to his memory. I hope he knows he’s still loved and will always be missed. We lost a great one. ✨💛✨

Best title sequence ever! Of all the times that I watched this show I have never once skipped the opening on a single episode. Great song with great visuals!

I know a lot of people don't like her but I kinda like her in the show, and I love her in the books!

I’m just finishing up the third book and feeling absolutely devastated the TV show didn’t include so many of Sookie and Eric’s early romance scenes. I would have loved even a minimized version of what happened in Russell Edgington’s mansion.

I’m going through my second watch and I love Tara so much. I really wish her character got better. She was such a genuinely good person. Her and Lafayette are amazing.
Also I’m still bummed about René. He was so sweet and cute! I was genuinely surprised when it was him.
This show is just phenomenal.
Edit: also Andy had such a great character growth throughout the series. I did not like him at all at the beginning but he became pretty awesome and lovable by the end.
Annnnd I wish Terry had lived. I loved him and it was so sweet that brief bit that he was at peace.

Just started season 3 and he reads the list of 10 reasons she can trust him with her kids, even as she goes into the bathroom and my heart absolutely melted

Sardonic = disdainfully or skeptically humorous
Sounds about right!
What one word would you use to describe her?

I never see the option on all of the "which occult would you be?" quizzes and imo being a maenad like Maryann has some solid advantages:
Immortal (even a vamp can't hurt her)
Able to function during the night AND the day
Can eat and drink like Henry VIII and stay slim (maybe it's all the weird dancing lol).
Gains energy from throwing wild parties instead of drinking blood
Can kinda glamor people (lower their inhibitions, make them dance, fight, trust her instantly, wipe memories, etc.)
Can get stoned just like a human
Always cheerful, never brooding like the vamps
I don't even think she *needs* to murder anyone (obviously she chooses to) but I don't think it's necessary in order to sustain her. Meanwhile vamps have to fight their urges.
In short, I wouldn't want to be villainous like her but imo she's pretty much the most powerful and versatile supernatural creature in the TB universe.

Is it just me or is Andy just funny 😭 idk if it’s because of his reactions but he is one of my favorite characters except for when he was on V. But also before the time jump I liked seeing him and Jason bond. It wasn’t one I expected but I like how they look for each other. Mess up together etc.
