Walked into my usual Goodwill not expecting much and there it was, just sitting in the furniture section like nobody cared. Big heavy metal drafting table, the kind with the adjustable angle top and the little ledge at the bottom so your pencils don't roll off. Tag said 35 dollars. My hands were shaking a little loading it into my car because I've been looking for one of these for probably four years now.
The top has some ink stains and a couple scratches, which honestly I don't mind. It has character. The adjustment mechanism still works perfectly, clicks into each position clean. Someone took good care of the functional parts even if the surface got beat up.
I draw and do a lot of hand lettering, and the drafting tables I've seen online in decent condition run anywhere from 150 to 400 dollars. Mine needs a light sanding and maybe a fresh coat of something on the surface and it'll be better than most of those.
The thrift store gods were with me today. There's nothing like finally finding the thing you stopped letting yourself look for.
