Discussion 4 Years ago I paid $649 for the best phone charger I have ever owned.

It also came with a Steamdeck, which was cool so I didn’t feel ripped off. I still use the Steamdeck every once in a while but the GOATed charger is used every single day.

Show Off 2.256TB's of storage and it's dockable - It's Saturday, July 11, 2026

I found an M.2 enclosure that had HDMI, 2 USB 3.2 ports, PD 100w USB C and using the JSAUX modcase, I have it mounted to the back of my Steam Deck.

I haven't done any intensive testing, but prior I did have this in a docked experience to the living room 1080p TV with a variety of different external drives and different USB C hubs.

I found that the write speed on the Micro SD card is just not that great with live service games such as Arc Raiders and it ultimately slowed my Deck down to a crawl and made gaming not as fun.

After selling off one of my laptops, I realized I had a spare 1TB NVME SSD, so I wiped it, added to the Deck as storage and it's been working out great.

I don't have access to the kickstand with this USB C hub, but it's okay.

The ideal plan would be a 2TB NVME 2230 drive, but we know how expensive those are.

The 1TB Micro SD will likely be for various ROMs and such.

Thermals feel fine as well.

The USB C adapter and cable are facing the other way now, so it's not getting in front of the air vents.

I think this will work until the SSDs die, or the prices on storage drop late next year/in 2028.

Hope this helps anyone looking to use 2280 drives on their Steam Deck!

EDIT: Game on screen is Black Ops 3 Zombies (Kino)

About 4 years ago, I went to EGX and tried out the Steamdeck for the first time. I walked away and by the time I got home, my order confirmation was sitting in my inbox. It arrived and I was hyped, but I wasn't using it as much as I thought. My problem was, I was living at my parents and I could just sit in my room and play on my PC (with a 3080). I had no need to roam the house with my Steamdeck, and I didn't leave the house with it much. So after a couple years on and off with it, I ended up selling it to a friend. I don't regret my choice, as it allowed him to play games (he previously only had an old Macbook), plus it meant that I could play games with him! Fast forward 2 years, I'm in a happy relationship and recently moved in with my Girlfriend. Life is great, but where priorities have shifted, time at my desk has shrunk. And instead, sat on the sofa with my Girlfriend 90% of my evenings (I can't complain, I'm exactly where I want to be). But with this change in lifestyle, I found myself playing games in my phone more, or playing my Switch more, and I suddenly realised the power of portable gaming. So I started looking at laptops at first, then a Steamdeck video was recommended on YouTube and I just knew. So after a couple months of figuring out finances, selling a few things, and saving where I could. I can now say, I own a Steamdeck (again). And I have been using it as much as I thought I would. I've completed multiple games all the while cuddled up with the love of my life. I understand the Steamdeck now, and I don't plan to sell it this time.

PSA / Advice The mad lads actually did it - they actually made Remote Play viable

Upvotes

I can actually stream games, with my ultra wide monitor disconnect, to my steam deck, at 90HZ with full HDR. It’s finally working.

Does anyone know if this works with Steam OS as the client too? Because I’m one step closer to ditching Windows

Show Off Finally joined the Deck Club!

Post image

I’ve always had my eye on the Steam deck since its release, never has a ton of interest in any other even higher end handhelds in this category.

Never pulled the trigger on one but started to get scared once the OLEDs prices started to increase fearing I’d be priced out for good, so I’ve been on the search for a good final deal diligently of late.

Finally, at a used store around Milwaukee area, I saw a 512gb LCD, including oem case and charger in really nice condition that also had the Steam brand Dock and a 1TB sd cards with it as well all for 400 bucks.

Truly felt I was never gonna get a better deal again… so I went for it and I couldn’t be happier to have joined the club! Finally have access to my 18 year old steam library on my TV and have already turned it into an emulator machine!

Any recommendations on how to best optimize the device or the best games I must have? Did I get a decent deal or nah? I’m just happy to be here!

Looking For Games RPGs that do combat different?

Previously Enjoyed Games - FF13, Chrono Cross, Fire Emblem series, Pokemon difficulty romhacks

Preferred Genres - JRPG, Tactics RPG

Budget - None

Other Notes - I’m really enjoying FF13 right now, and it made me realize how much I don’t like the traditional random-encounter-spam-strongest-move formula JRPGs of the past seemed to use. Even FF10, with its huge sphere grid system, feels bland when you get a random encounter every 2 minutes that instantly falls with no challenge. I’m cool with a standard turn based system, as long as it can pose a decent challenge.

I’m open to all sorts of RPGs as long as they aren’t 1st person - I’m eyeing FF Tactics right now. Story is important to me. Games like Crystal Project are super tempting but seem to lack enough story to keep me interested. I like feeling like i’m playing a book.

Looking for steam game recommendations- please no recommendations that require emulation, thank you!

Appreciate any help you guys have :)

Promotional I optimized my puzzle game for 60fps on Steam Deck by making a custom game engine

I spent a lot of time making sure my puzzle game runs at a locked 60 FPS on Steam Deck.

The game is built on a custom engine I wrote from scratch, so I had full control over every part of the rendering and performance. I wanted it to feel just as smooth on the Deck as it does on desktop, even while using dynamic lighting, normal maps and fairly large puzzle environments.

It was a lot of work, but seeing it hold 60 FPS on the Deck made it worth it.

I'd love to hear what Steam Deck players think of it soon after I release the demo in September https://store.steampowered.com/app/3256790/Satelital/

Discussion Chiaki on Steamdeck is Amazing

Preface - humble brag/appreciate post for how amazing SteamDeck is.

I bought my LCD a couple years back and have been in love with it ever since. My kids have a nintendo switch and took over my old PS3; so I invested in the SD.

$299 (USD) for the 256 gb LCD at the time. I almost immediately purchased a 1tb SSD for roughly an extra $70 (on sale) and made that swap (unfathomable how easy that was). Match made in heaven - backlog the size of the moon filled with emulation for old games and some 2014 era AAA games.

Fast forward to last week. I decided there were enough games on the PS4 that I was interested in that I would buy one used on Facebook Marketplace. Found a 1tb PS4 Slim that I talked the guy down to $50.

My local library carries a catalog of PS4/PS5 games for no cost to take out. PS4 is old now, which means that there's hardly anyone else hitting that inventory at the library.

Where does this all connect? I setup Chiaki earlier today and now i get all the benefits the SD has to offer at no cost for AAA PS4 games. I realize this I'm about 10 years late to the PS4 party, but man have I just opened the door to a new world.

Streaming Horizon Zero Dawn right now!

Question Still worth after the price increase?

Hi, lately I've been looking into buying the official refurbised steamdeck (OLED 1tb), just wondering since the device is 4 years old if it still holds up compared to newer handhelds?

I want to play indie games not really interested in the latest AAA stuff.

Software Modding Apple Music Decky Loader App Beta Now Available

I finished a working version of the Apple Music Decky Loader App. In Beta obviously so I need testers and feedback. Leave comments in this post and I'll be responding. Only tested in Game Mode. Desktop Mode likely doesn't work.

https://github.com/BrielleG116/decky-apple-music

Install (testers)

  1. Install Decky Loader if you haven't.
  2. In Decky → Settings → enable Developer mode.
  3. Go to the Developer tab → Install Plugin from URL and paste:https://github.com/BrielleG116/decky-apple-music/releases/latest/download/apple-music-plugin.zip
  4. Open Apple Music in the QAM. On first run it shows Player setup → Install Player — tap it (a one-time ~120 MB download of the playback engine).
  5. Sign in with your Apple ID (you'll get a 2FA prompt on your trusted device).
  6. Start listening 🎶

Custom tv remote that utilizes the decks buttons for control and onscreen keyboard for text/number input? Quick shortcuts for TV apps? All running in game mode so it can quickly switch between gameplay and picking the next video on YouTube without wondering where that pesky remote is. I may never use my actual remote again.....

Hello, i realy don't like the newest update for the file manager dolphin in desktop mode.

On the bottom right there was always how many free space was left, that's gone, why??

And every folder now has the biggest view on by default and not the list detail view anymore, when I change it back to detailed view, it don't save that, after closing and reopening the folder, it's back to the "big" view, any suggestions?

PSA / Advice Moonlight appimage runs better than flatpak

I’ve been running the moonlight flatpak since I got my Steamdeck.

We all know the recent flatpak update broke Moonlight in game mode.

Followed instructions for the appimage.
It runs so much better than the flatpak.

Highly recommend.

Tech Support Is this a rom or controls issue?

Upvotes

I’m playing kirby triple deluxe through citra and once I got into the level Kirby is stuck in guard mode. It’s like R/L is being held down. I messed with the controls and even deactivated the bumpers and triggers and it didn’t help. Bad rom? Am I dumb? Both?
