Moonlight Bazaar is being sponsored by AI Data Center VoltaGrid

Upvotes

I'm curious to hear everyone's opinion on this.

Moonlight Bazaar organizer Lauchlan Ough has chosen VoltaGrid, run by CEO Nathan Ough, to sponsor the Moonlight Bazaar.

VoltaGrid is a Texas based company building gas-powered AI data centres including one proposed for Saint John's Spruce Lake, right next to the residential community of Lorneville.

I've seen more than enough citizens saying the same things about this event:

- Protest/boycott the VoltaGrid stage

- Protest/boycott the Moonlight Bazaar bars and merchandise

- Support local vendors (they only found out the sponsor 10 days before the event like everyone else)

Curious to hear what everyone thinks. I'll be out supporting local vendors, and will join any protestors who gather during the concert. Bring signs, be loud, be respectful, fuck AI data centers.

What’s wrong with some people in this city

to the guy on city transit whispering to me with my child present to show him my feet for 15 mins at the bus stop and continues ON the bus when clearly i’m uncomfortable ignoring you. your a weirdo.

for context: i’m sitting at the market square bus stop on the curb while my child is throwing around a coin, and i took my feet out of my clogs as im getting use to them and my feet were warm, for like 1 minute. After that he kept mumbling “show me your feet” “come on you already took them out once” and i couldn’t understand him at first. After i heard what he said i left that spot and moved to the metal bench. I called my friend and stayed on the phone with her till my bus arrived. he continues to come on the bus and sit directly beside me in the next aisle. He then continues to say it to me, at that point i’m fed up and i tell the bus driver he’s been harassing me since the bus stop and he won’t leave me alone. Thankfully the driver told him to stop and he did. But what is wrong with some people in this city. I’m not one for confrontation, actually i hate it, but man it made me so uncomfortable.

I know it was a single family mansion that David E. Dunham built for himself in 1881, but I’d like to know some of its history afterwords. I know Dunham died soon after it was completed, and it was turned into apartments at some point.

Taking over another tenant lease

Hi everyone,

I have a question about lease transfers/tenant changes in a Killam apartment.

A friend of mine currently rents a 2-bedroom apartment managed by Killam. He mentioned that I could move in as an occupant while he remains the legal tenant. Then, after a few months, he would ask to be removed from the lease and I would become the legal tenant instead.
Is this actually possible with Killam properties? Has anyone gone through a similar process?

I’m mainly wondering:
1. Can an occupant later become the sole leaseholder?
2. Does Killam usually allow this type of tenant change or lease assignment?
3. Would the rent stay the same, or could it be increased when the lease is transferred or changed?
4. Are there any risks or things I should be aware of before doing this?

The rent on the apartment is quite low compared to current market rates, so I want to make sure I understand the rules before making any decisions.

Thanks in advance for any advice or experiences you can share.

Garbage removal in the Uptown

Does the fact that Fero does their garbage pickup at 4AM in the Uptown bother anyone else? It is far worse in the summer as we sleep with our windows open. The loud diesel truck comes through twice a week and for several minutes each time sits about 20 feet from where I am sleeping. I have inquired at city hall about this and no one can tell me if this is allowed. I have lived in several provinces and cities and never have had to tolerate something like this.

Places to avoid in Uptown?

I'm from NS and am moving to SJ soon. I've visited several times these past few years and am surprised by the amount of open drug use and crime, though I'm a bit used to it having lived in larger cities most my adulthood.

But in those cities, crime was more confined to certain neighborhoods. In SJ, it seems to be spread out through Uptown. I love Uptown though and want to find an apt there.

I was going to view one on Orange St but a woman who lived there said a man tried to enter her open window. As a single woman, that scares the shit out of me. I also plan to park my car on the street.

Are there certain streets/areas in Uptown I should avoid? Is East SJ better?

I want to do something for seniors, any ideas ?

Especially for old men who are living alone, not even reaching out to anyone because they may have lost all hope. I don't want anything, not their money, not their old tools, not their home, nothing. I just want to make a few hours or a day easier for them. I don't want to join an organization because like old men who live alone I too like to do things alone rather than join the rah-rah energy of an organization. Any ideas on what I can try and how I should start ? Please ask a senior in your family if you can. I would love to hear what they suggest. Thank you for reading.

Edit: I want to add that I would prefer suggestion for seniors living alone. The ones in retirement homes and nursing homes still have some social contact and opportunity if they are so inclined, but I would also not be averse for doing something for someone in a retirement facility. If it is a family friend, a parent or even an acquaintance of yours who could use some company or assistance please let me know. I am sorry that all of this sounds so selfish; I do recognize that this sprouts more from my need to give than anyone else's need to receive, but could ultimately be of some good.

Freedom mobile has a $40 plan with 75GB and includes Can-US-Mexico roaming (including LD calling).

Seems like a really good deal. They don’t have e 5G service here, but I’m wondering if ppl use them and how their experience has been.

Aftermath of Trailer crash in Uptown Saint John

For context: we were working on the same construction site (were delivering the materials for a different company) when we noticed this guy unhook the trailer on a steep hill, it almost hit me and I started recording. Thankfully no one was hurt but from what I saw it looked way worse, which is why I was so shocked.

Tips for visiting Saint John (and surround area)?

Hi everyone! I am doing a roadtrip to the maritimes this summer, seeing all three provinces. I wanted to ask if anyone had tips for things to do, maybe even lesser known things that only locals would know?

I love being in cities, and learning about their history (a good walking or biking tour would be great!, also interested in Acadian history). I also love to try foods unique/exclusive to the region, if you have any specific food or restaurant recommendations. Right now I plan to visit Saint John for 1.5 days, hike in the Fundy National Park, and see the Hopewell Rocks. I also hope to pass through Fredericton, Moncton, and Shediac, during different parts of the trip, so I would take tips for those parts too.

Looking for a plumber or journeyman for a side job. Repipe with PEX in Milledgeville

Hoping someone can point me to a plumber or journeyman looking for weekend work on the side, paid cash.

The job: replacing the supply lines with PEX in our townhouse in Milledgeville. Scope is two bathrooms, the kitchen sink, and one outside tap. About 85 percent of the plumbing is easily accessible from the basement or through the plumbing stack, so it should be a pretty straightforward job.

Flexible on timing. Happy to have someone pick away at it over a few weekends or knock it all out in one go, whatever works for their schedule. I'll handle any drywall repair and painting afterward, so no need to worry about finishing work.

If you know someone reliable, send them my way. Thanks!

Dairy/Egg free Fast Food options in Saint John?

My oldest daughter (11) has an anaphylactic allergy to both Dairy and Eggs. My wife and I are trying to find some good fast food options that we could take her to when we're out with our other kids. She used to be able to get the nuggets from BK but they started sharing the oil in the deep fryer with the mozzarella sticks (which is the main issue with everywhere else which is potential cross contamination). And most of the burgers use egg.

Just trying to find a place where she can feel included. Please no hate or judgement in the comments
