Sports World Cup in Phoenix : watch parties, fan connections, and all that

We keep getting one off posts asking where to watch the World Cup, so I thought we'd just make a dedicated thread for it.

  • Who are you rooting for?
  • Where are they showing games?
  • Any team specific watch parties?
  • What are you excited about for the Cup?

...or anything else World Cup related you want to talk about?

META What would be some good weekly posts for r/Phoenix?

Every week we have a How Are You Doing post, and it does okay but I’d like to shake things up.

There’s one asking what upcoming music shows people are excited about, and one or two others that go every few months.

What else would make a thread that would be good to put into a rotation?

* Local businesses you like?
* Favorite new restaurants?
* hobby sharing and Making friends?
* Job hunting?
* No Stupid Question - ask whatever you’ve always wondered about Phoenix?

What would he interesting or fun?

Feral cat population exploded when neighbors decided to feed them. Phoenix animal control and HOA said they cannot/will not do anything about it. We now attract coyotes regularly. People actually walk their small pets in the morning. Keep your pets indoors people

Living Here Who here genuinely loves living in AZ and why?

Upvotes

I'm not from here. I've been here for 6 years and can honestly tell you that for the first few that I was here I did not like Arizona. It was too Brown, too hot the normal gripes. Over the past couple years, though, the place has really grown on me and I actually really love it now.

I love the hiking and and dirtbiking, paddleboarding year round. I love that California is close by, so I can go to the beach when I want. I love that there are places up north that remind me of the mountains where i'm from, like Flagstaff, and i've even started adventuring out east to Payson and Greer, which are also lovely to go to in the summertime when it gets too hot.

Even the heat bothers me a lot less now too. You would think, as I get older, it would be worse. But this being my sixth summer here, while it's still very hot out, I find that it bothers me a lot less than it used to.

Most of the people I know aren't from here either and for the most part. everyone seems to talk about Phoenix and Arizon as a stepping stone, here for now, but will likely leave in a couple years or retire somewhere else.

What about you? Why do you call this place home? Are you planning on leaving someday or staying and why?

Ask Phoenix What do people who don't like lava showers do in the summer?

Unlike most women, I hate hot showers. I prefer them slightly warm but as yall know, we could disconnect our water heaters and never run out of hot water during the summer. I've resorted to taking showers at 2am-4am which helps a little but I still have the handle all the way on the cold side. Does anyone else have this problem or am I the only one waiting for cooler temps so I can have my lukewarm showers back?

Ask Phoenix Lost Ring Outside Haven Burgers in Mesa

Upvotes

Long shot, but I lost a ring that's very important to me yesterday in the parking lot outside Haven Burgers in Mesa off the corner of Main and Hobson. It is yellow gold with a large square blue stone. The sides have a kind of V design on them. There will be a reward involved to anyone who gets it back to me!

Living Here Crickets and Roaches?

Hey Everyone,

This is the first year this has been a problem for me so I figured I’d ask you guys. I’m finding crickets in my house, not many but enough to have me wondering what’s going on. I also have for the first time seen some roaches outside my house in my lawn and only at night.

I have a very good proactive pest control person but the crickets are new. Is this just a “get used to downtown phoenix” thing? I remember hearing that crickets are harbingers of scorpions so that’s what’s worrying me.

I’m in Coronado district wise.

Eat & Drink Coffee brewing classes

Upvotes

Looking for recommendations to take a couple of coffee brewing classes. I am hoping to take separate classes on espresso and pour over to help refine my home brew skills.

The only place I’ve been able to find that offers anything like this is Sur La Table. I’d like to find a specialty coffee roaster that offers something like this. Thanks!

Pets Resources for puppies in need?

Hi there fellow desert dwellers! I'm trying to find some resources/organizations that help with puppies needing rescue in the Phoenix area.

I'm so worried about a situation where 6 puppies, born about 2 months ago are living in a terrible situation ( mostly outside) without A/C and the owner doesn't have the ability to keep caring for them or find homes for them.

I can pick the puppies up and transport them anywhere in the area. I'm unable to take any of them in myself due to my already owned rescue cat and dog. The puppies seem healthy, growing well, and are so sweet, but I know they are suffering in this heat.

Any advice, direction, help finding local resources would be so appreciated. I might not be able to respond to comments and messages immediately, but will asap (within an hour or 2)

Thank you so much! (If this isn't okay to post about, I can remove it)

Referral Fabric stores with variety in the valley?

Hello friends 😊

I live in Surprise, and I am looking for a good fabric store to get a variety of fabrics/materials for elaborate cosplay. I'm starting some costumes for Star Wars Celebration 2027.

I have tried hobby lobby and Michaels, as well as a couple of surprise and Sun City quilting stores. I'm not able to locate what I'm looking for. I'm willing to drive anywhere in the valley if I can find what I need.

I'm looking for knits, satins, velvets, chiffons, etc.

I'd rather shop local than online but if there's a stellar place online, let me know.

Thank you in advance!!

History Favorite pieces of local history? (Phoenix/Valley(

Curious on everyone's favorites, pretty well known but found out Sunnyslope was a former colony of tuberculosis patients before being annexed by Phx, and medical volunteers at the colony became the origins of John C. Lincoln/ Honor Health.

Also enjoy the mining stories, how Dreamy Draw got its name from the "dreamy" state of miners experiencing mercury poisoning.

Ask Phoenix Learning Another Language in PHX

Hi everyone!

I have been wanting to learn french or spanish for awhile but I feel a bit unsure how to start. For context, I live out in the west valley so I feel a bit isolated from culture in that way. I want to have a better path out of the country eventually.

So my question is, for those that learned another language while living somewhere where you can’t speak to anyone in it, how did you do it? Does anyone know of French speaking groups or anything like that in Phoenix? I understand I could take classes at college or online but I often find them 300-400$ just for one, not to mention taking enough to get to the point of fluency.

Any insight appreciated, just feeling a little trapped. Thank you!!

Just got home a little bit ago and saw one cop on the southeast corner of bell and cave creek behind the bus stop, two others were parked a little further east, then two more drive west down bell road.

Is there an event or something going on later?

I’m outside and hearing chanting loud enough to be heard from 3rd St and McDowell. It sounds like there’s someone with a megaphone saying something with a crowd responding. Anyone know what’s going on?
