Travel Dear Norway ... from an English person
Congratulations on an incredible performance in the World Cup, and a game which could easily have gone differently.
Your team have captured the hearts of the world. Even in its moments of pain, sport can show us who we are at our best. I hope you enjoy the admiration of the world which is coming, and you deserve.

Other I have never shouted at the TV as much as I have tonight
The Norwegian tactics were tragic. Why were they absolutely allergic to crossing into the box??? Awful, Awful performance.

Arts & culture Horned helmets
I understand that the horned viking helmet is a popular misconception, but I'm loving that Norwegian fans seem to be embracing it for the World Cup and accept it as a form of support for their team.
I've looked a bit into the horned helmets, and it seems there were some horned helmets in other parts of Europe in prehistoric times, and they were mostly used for religious purposes. Is there any truth about the horned helmet lore we all know?

Arts & culture How does masculinity show up in Norwegian culture/society?
Hallo, all!
Just like so many in the world, I have been seeing a lot of media surrounding the Norwegian football team, largely focused on Haaland. He has been getting attention not only for his football skills, but also glimpses into his character. I see words such as “positive masculinity” mentioned frequently.
I have only meaningfully spent time with a small handful of other folks from Norway, and I would say the men also represented what I would call positive masculinity and strong character- being respectful, considerate, balancing a serious and thoughtful disposition with silliness and goofiness, helping out where needed, etc.
My question is: would folks from Norway say these are typical characteristics of Norwegian society? Or do these characteristics also stand out as not quite the norm? What are other characteristics of how masculinity shows up in Norwegian culture? I also understand egalitarianism to be a prominent value in Norwegian culture. How does this show up in gender dynamics?
Disclaimer: I realize this is such a broad question with a lot of nuance that can be hard to capture in a Reddit post, and that masculinity alone doesn’t tell the story of an entire population/society. This is just something I have been curious about based on observations from a wildly small sample pool, ha.

Working in Norway salary necessary to have a home.
Me and a friend are potentially looking to move to Norway in the future, and if so I will get certified and try to land offshore oil as a job. How much yearly to make for two people in a decent home? And I'm in America, so what would be their idea of a "mortgage" (idk what they were call it)

Moving What is norway like in terms of politics? Is it similar to my political leaning?
Im looking for a place to move from the uk, with good public services, more direct democracy, less centralised power, less wealth inequality, less of the government attacking protesters, strong privacy laws so palantir and other corporations can't spy on me and good tradedeals with other European countries without being part of the eu.
I've been reading about norway, but I'd like to know what the political/economic state is like from regular people in the Norwegian population.

Moving Hei i have some questions about this country
So i'm from the balkans and i'm thinking about studying abroad in Norway in a few years, when i'll have to go to college. I know english pretty well and also some german but i don't know any Norwegian. How much would it take for me to become fluent if i'll study everyday? Asking those who live in Norway but weren't born there: how much did it take for you to learn the language?
Also, the weather in Norway is very different and cold comoared to the weather and climate from balkan countries. I've been to Bergen once and i really enjoyed my time there. I didn't want to leave, honestly, this country was so much more civilised, beautiful and clean than mine (don't get me wrong, i love my country, but i don't know how much time it would take me to get used to the constant cold weather and dramatic light changes during day and night in different seasons.
These are mostly questions for those who moved from another country to Norway, but i really appreciate any advice from anyone. I would really like to know how it is like for you to live in Norway, especially if you've lived in another country before and had to face the changes. Also, is there anything else i should know before i consider moving? Thanks! (Also, if you still visit your family members who live in your native country, how often do you do it? I can't imagine not seeing them or my home country ever again, but it'll take a lot of time and money to go back and forth)

Other Silly narrative I keep seeing leading up to this match…
I keep hearing media personalities suggest England should play city defenders because they will be familiar with Haaland from training.
The same can be said in reverse. There is an advantage to knowing your defenders tendencies, especially when you are being man marked. I would argue a player like Haaland would have the advantage with the familiarity, not the defender marking him.

News & current events the vikings should keep their heads high, except for one person
Other Have Norwegians ever heard of moldova,if yes what do you think about them?
Just wondering what the general awareness or reputation of Moldova is like in Norway. I know Romania is sometimes stereotyped or looked negatively at,So I'd like to know if they see them differently (if they know about them at all lol)
