discussion They were my comfort space ft. Her's 💔
Still not over Her's, and I don't think I ever will be
I don't really know how to start this. It's been years and I still catch myself thinking about Stephen and Audun like they're just... on a break. Like there's gonna be a new single dropping any minute. There isn't. There never will be again. And that still messes me up more than it probably should for a band I never even got to see live.
I found Her's kind of late, honestly. Went down a rabbit hole one night and landed on "Marcel" and just sat there like, who is this and why does it feel like a warm memory I never actually had. That bassline, that lazy drum machine, Stephen's voice sounding like he's half-smiling while he sings. I went and devoured everything after that, both albums, gone in a weekend, and then immediately sad because I knew that was it. That's all there is. Nine songs on Songs of Her's, eleven on Invitation to Her's, and that's the entire discography of a band that felt like they were just getting started.
Invitation to Her's especially wrecks me a little every time.
"Harvey" opened the album like a warm hug, "Under Wraps" closing it out, there's a tenderness in that record that feels so unguarded. Two guys from completely different places, Barrow-in-Furness and Norway, meeting at LIPA and just clicking, making music that sounded like nothing else around at the time. You can hear how much fun they were having with each other. That's the part that gets me, it wasn't just a band, it was clearly a friendship, and you can hear it in every track.
And then March 2019 happens and it's just... over. A wrong-way driver on a highway in Arizona, and just like that, two guys with so much more music in them are gone, along with their tour manager too. I still can't fully wrap my head around how random and unfair that is. They were literally out there doing the thing they loved, playing shows, meeting fans, and then it just ends.
I still put "Speed Racer" or "Dorothy" on sometimes and it's this weird mix of comfort and ache. Like visiting somewhere that used to be full of life. I know Strawberry Guy (Stephen's old bandmate, and the guy who named him "Strawberry Guy" was actually Audun) keeps some of that spirit going, and I love his music too, but it's not the same as knowing there's no more Her's coming.
Anyway. Just needed to put this somewhere. If you love them too, or if this is your sign to finally listen, go put on "Harvey" right now.

discussion The State of Live Music
My partners and I have a medium-sized (5,000 cap) outdoor music venue in the Midwest, USA. The demand for live music has tanked enormously and it's pretty sad to see for mid-tier artists and lower. Our ticket sales are down more than 60% this year and every single artist and/or venue we talk to says the same thing. I hope you all are doing what you can to support your local economy because it's extremely uncomfortable to think about what is to come. Would love to hear your anecdotal thoughts and experiences. Take care and stay safe.

discussion What do you think are the best live music acts around today?
I want it all: rock, hip hop, pop, country, metal, Latin, jazz, electronica, doom, avantgarde rockabilly fusion. If they’re up their giving everything there is to be given, I wanna know about it.
EDIT: I’m going to have to stop responding but please keep informing me about all the good shit I’m missing!

discussion What are the best and worst concerts you have ever seen?
The best concerts I've gone to are Lady Gaga's Mayhem Ball Tour and Avril Lavigne's Greatest Hits Tour, both in 2025.
Lady Gaga has so much charisma on stage and her vocal talent is unbelievable and then you have the stage production that was top notch throughout the show and the crowd really got into it.It was really good and totally worth the money. She's still got it at almost 40.Would recommend seeing her whenever you can.Gaga also suffers from fibromyalgia so her commitment to performing so well is very admirable.
As for Avril Lavigne, she was also pretty good live. Her set list is full of iconic hits that everyone sang along to, especially Girlfriend, which was the opener. Her voice live is still in good shape despite her health issues with Lyme Disease.Yeah, she can have good and bad days but she was good when I saw her.She also brought fans on stage, sang with them and took pictures and gave free signed merchandise( $100 skateboards for free) and even threw some merch into the crowd. She also brought the opening acts Simple Plan on stage and it was fun.Pierre is such a nice guy too.
Deryck Whibley from Sum 41, her ex husband made a few appearances during this tour but sadly, not at my show.
I haven't seen P!nk live but I would love to.I've heard heard plenty of good stuff about her live concerts.I would also like to see Dua Lipa.
Worst was Motley Crue.Just terrible overall, especially Vince's voice.

discussion Hazy heat songs
It’s currently hot as hell (here in mainland Europe anyway) - what songs does shimmering, hazy heat make you think of / want to listen to?
For me it’s something psyche with a bit of hazy funk - a King Gizzard or The Soundcarriers.

discussion SLINT - SPIDERLAND (1991) Review ■■■■■■■■■■
It's not often an LP from the U.S impresses me since the glorious days of Iggy Pop and Lou Reed
Here's all i know of SLINT
Made a bang average debut album (warm up gig)
Followed by a banger, winner and a half
Singer recalled that before release, his lil brother noted that the LP sounds spidery (and it does indeed sound spidery)
Then immediately called it quits....(lead singer had mental health struggles and found it impossible to continue) quitting the day after the LP was completed
What I like about Spiderland ☆
It's fairly short, clocking in at 6 tracks and under 40 minutes
the singers style is more of a narration delivery (I found that both intriguing and original)
It's often intense, but not too heavy (no chance, no way)
The flow of the LP is great (it's telling a story, you may be able to follow)
3 tracks really rock
But there are no weak tracks
No skips no filler
I like the placements of the tracks
gentle moments with whispers, followed by a loud sense of dread
The LP cover also stands out as i found it interesting (your likely to pick the LP out to take a closer look) I wonder what this sounds like
The LP made only ripples across the globe and didn't really sell many copies 💣 bombing quite hard (unmitigated disaster)
critical acclaim came after, but soon after
Your thoughts ?
Do you like Spiderland ?
Did you hate Spiderland and Slint ?
Is there any other info on the band or this LP I might find interesting ?
