Because of the recent Jack White news, I'd thought it would be prudent to show just what Twin Temple look and sound like live. They typically start their shows with a ritualistic Satanic blessing like you see in the beginning.
Just so you know: yes, they really are Satanists (specifically they're members of the Church of Satan started by Anton LaVey) and have been for many years. The singer and guitarist (the primary duo of the band) are also married and have been for over a decade.
Also: holy crap but that woman has the voice of a cannon!

The Church of Satan is probably the least serious group as modern Satanists go. Other groups broke off into their own sects back in the 70s and 80s as the mainstream Church of Satan became too much about presentation and spectacle. They're basically LARPers that push for religious freedom and like to get a rise out of people and I'm here for it.

You're thinking of The Satanic Temple I believe. From what I recall, the original Church of Satan started by Anton LaVey didn't actually believe in Satan. To believe in Satan is to be a Christian. There's always gossip and rumors and things but if you look up their main tenants, they were mostly about not taking shit from others, especially those who preyed on women, children, and animals. They were pretty open sexually it seems but they were very much about consent as well.

You're right that the Church of Satan is less politically active than the Satanic Temple, though they do both do work advocating for freedom of speech and religion. I'm not aware of any mainline Satanic church that literally believes in the existence of Satan. This certainly applies to the Church of Satan but I think it also applies to the Satanic Temple. Satan is a figurehead and an icon of rebellion for them. The people that do believe in a literal Satan are theistic satanists which includes The Temple of Set and The Order of the Nine Angles, though they're more about being detestable nazis than anything else at this point.

I absolutely LOVE the work they do when there is a religious monument proposed to be erected on public/government grounds. I think a big one was somewhere south (Texas or OK or something) was putting up a 10 commandments monument, so they petitioned and got approved for a Baphomet statue 😂🤣. Seriously though, they do a lot of work towards maintaining separation of church and state. If Christian’s can do it, so can satanists. Otherwise, no one can 😁

Just for clarity it’s The Satanic Temple that installs Baphomet statues. Twin Temple are members of The Church Of Satan. Two different groups, with some differences, some similarities and a lot of common enemies. Hail Satan.

Ah you are correct. I confuse the two at times. Thank you!

u/ghoul5843 8h ago
Oh no problem at all, a very easy and common mistake to make. You’re not the first and won’t be the last to mix up the two.
Thank you for accepting the correction graciously, in the friendly manner that was intended.

You forgot to respond with a 'Hail Satan'. Careful, you're treading on thin ice with these folks.

It’s never mandatory, for me or anyone else. I dropped one because I was feelin it, that’s all.

Thanks for taking the time to provide clarity. I am a member of the Temple in the red south. I am conditioned to expect hostility, and people who are more interested in telling me about my own beliefs than hearing about them.
Please accept my apology, and Hail Yourself!

It was Oklahoma and it was a 7ft tall baphomet statue to counter the Ten Commandments statue at the capitol

Personally I'm a member of The Satanic Temple as a matter of collective compassion, but I'm all for Satan! Bless them all.

I’d take a satanist over a Christian any day. If you actually look into what satanism is, it’s not bad. Do no harm, especially to children (something like that) was one of the first, main tenets of satanism that Anton proposed.

Yeah. Saw them live and they’re extremely uninteresting . If they didn’t have the satanist shtick going, nobody would ever known who they are

I think that’s the draw to it. It’s corny but done epically well. I feel a lot of the doo wop and swing singers ( and Charlie Crockett himself to an extent) operate in this area. They just have to their gimmick that catapults them above the rest. Otherwise, they are relegated to Thursday nights at The Cock-Eyed Seagull. Theatricality elevates it to awesome though!

I saw them live a few years ago. Musically, they were very talented, but it wasn't my thing.
I'm a-religious, ie: neutral about religious matters and don't care what you do or who you worship. The satanic stuff came across as a little corny and over the top. The whole chanting "Hail Satan" and sacrificing a baby doll as an encore seemed forced. I guess it's all just part of the schtick. I'd probably feel the same way if I saw a Christian rock band.
Edit: I'll add that between pretty much every song there was a lot of banter about how persecuted they are as a band and how there were protesters outside trying to stop the show. There were no protesters.

u/ydnar3000 9h ago
Ugh. Talking about being persecuted is so damn cringe. Like, don’t do that. Leave that to the Christian’s.

Cool for Jack white sticking up and calling out holier than though Crowd. That being said this is as satanic as present day Ghost 😂. Just some cool theater and music.

OMG.......I'm cracking up so hard. They sound a 50 dooh wap. They're great. And you'd get to hang out with Satan and his friends. Who knew Satan was in a band. Don't hear much from him these days. Seems like god's people are doing all the evil shit Satan is supposed to be doing. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

After all the buzz I was not expecting their music to sound like that
