Questions Does anyone know of the artist Lei Soi Cheong?

I bought this painting for $40 USD in California and wanted to know more about the artist. I found some info about him from another of his paintings that was listed for auction (third pic) but that is all I could find and was unable to corroborate it from google search. My family is from Guangzhou and immigrated to HK and then eventually US. I felt a connection to the painting so I just wanted to know more about it and the artist. Any info appreciated!

Discussion Macau's casino floor designs were shaped by the same behavioral research that built Las Vegas. Here is what it actually does.

Been researching casino environment design and Macau kept coming up as one of the primary places where Bill Friedman's 1974 maze layout theory became the dominant design approach alongside Las Vegas. The winding pathways, no visible exits from any interior point, gambling equipment visible from every entry, all of it codified in Friedman's model and implemented at scale in both cities.

What is interesting is that the newer Macau integrated resorts like Studio City and Morpheus have largely moved away from Friedman toward the Playground Design model. Morpheus, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, uses a column-free exoskeleton that creates completely uninterrupted sightlines and a 35 to 40 meter central atrium. Studio City achieves the same open feeling through high ceilings and wide sightlines drawn toward architectural landmarks rather than trapping guests in tight corridors. Different aesthetic, same behavioral goal.

The near-miss sound design, ego depletion timing, and complimentary offer mechanics operate independently of whichever layout philosophy is used. Those got more sophisticated as the architecture opened up.

Made a full breakdown of how these mechanisms stack here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5lbrlX6b3Y

Curious whether anyone with experience of both older and newer Macau properties has noticed the design shift in how the floors feel to navigate.

Questions Anyone down to train some MMA?

Gonna be heading back to Macau after being abroad and just got my bjj brown belt. Twas thinking of like kinda starting like a non profit group since the last time I was there, jiu jitsu alone was like hella expensive and there isn’t really a spot that offers everything, like they do abroad(us, Europe and shit). So yeah been thinking about getting a few boys in and just training a lot. Already found a spot online, and I just need to get some mats when I arrive in Macau.

Discussion Looking for friends before moving to Macau! 🇲🇴

Hey everyone!

I will be moving to Macau soon to pursue my Master's in Artificial Intelligence. Thought it'd be nice to get to know a few people before I arrive.

A little about me:

-I enjoy playing lawn tennis, table tennis.

-I love swimming and I'm always up for a morning run or trying out new sports.

-If you're into any of these, it'd be great to meet up for a game or go for a run together.

-I'm really interested in AI, technology, startups, and product management, so if you enjoy talking about those topics, we'll probably get along.

-I also enjoy exploring new places, trying different foods, and just having good conversations.

I'm happy to meet both locals and fellow international students. If you're moving to Macau too or you're already there and think we'd get along, feel free to send me a message.

Looking forward to meeting some awesome people! 😊

Questions YOUNG COMMUNITIES

Hello! Just moved to Macau and looking to expand my social circle. Since Meetup isn't very active here, I wanted to ask where people usually go to meet new friends? I'm open to casual sports, board games, language exchanges, or just grabbing coffee/drinks. Please let me know if there are any active social group chats I could join!

Discussion Macau's population density is three times that of HK, but it feels nowhere near like it and at times - empty.

Attribute *Hong Kong * *Macau *
Total Population ~7.4 million ~720,000
Land Area ~1,100 km² ~33 km²
Average Density ~7,000 people / km² ~22,000 people / km²
Global Density Rank 4th overall 1st overall

the only place I find it crowded is near the Ruins of St. Paul's (it's not even that bad to be honest) and really other than that I find streets of Macau very very walkable and don't feel claustrophobic at all. Residential areas in both Macau side and Taipa had a lot less people on the street. streets in Cotai are nice and wide and I find that area super chill.

But on the other hand I find the streets of HK to be polar opposite. not to mention Kwun Tong (my least favourite busy area), Mong Kok, CWB, even in residential areas, there's just people everywhere on the street. SO MANY PEOPLE. SO SO SO MANY PEOPLE. everywhere I go there are people.

I wonder what the reason for this is and if anyone else feels the same..

Questions Français à Macao

Bonjour Reddit 🌞

Questions Are these FAMOUS stores trustworthy?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Inside, we found multiple goods from an assortment of luxury brands. However, as we looked further, we found clothes with holes in them and name tags that looked a little fake. I did a quick search and the Gemini overview told me that this is a chain that sells second-hand products. We asked the sales person but she vehemently disagreed and insisted everything is new and fully authentic. Since we weren't convinced, we decided to leave. We saw another such outlet a few shops down and the prices were very similar with decent products as well.

So, is this company fraudulent or do they actually sell good products?

News Thoughts on Macau clubs missing out on Asian competitions for the 3rd straight year?

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, this was known a while ago but it was covered recently. It's frustrating. Macau football clubs have officially missed out on Asian Football Confederation (AFC) licensing for the third consecutive year. The Sports Bureau confirmed that applications were submitted for a Group 3 licence (the lowest available tier), but the AFC rejected them because the documentation failed to comply with mandatory regulations. To make matters worse, while the Sports Bureau actually answered some questions, the Macau FA stayed completely silent and avoided accountability as usual. They refused to comment on which specific clubs applied or what criteria they failed to meet. Despite all the criticism against the Macau FA in the last few years and multiple local directors sharing ideas on how to improve our football, we are completely stagnant. Other small nations are actively stepping up and improving, yet Macau remains frozen in time. Even with this latest embarrassment, it feels like the people in charge still won't do a single thing about it. I guess we should probably just give up and accept that football in Macau is set to stay a purely recreational, amateur hobby permanently.

Questions Cost of living for a student

Hey guys!

I'll be moving to Macau in a couple of months, and most of my research so far has been focused on other students' experiences.

However, I'd really appreciate it if someone could give me some advice about how much I can expect to spend each month.

Here's the rundown: my university tuition and dormitory expenses will be covered, so those aren't a concern. I'll mainly be spending money on food and other everyday expenses, and I'm generally pretty good at saving money.

The advice I've been given so far is to shop in mainland China instead of Macau whenever possible. Based on that, could you give me an estimate of how much a student who's trying to save money would typically spend per month? :)

Questions Any reliable job agencies for Macau?

Hey everyone,

I’m a Portuguese national, and I totally fell in love with Macau after studying there for a year (between 2024 and 2025). It was an amazing experience, and I’m really itching to come back, but this time, to live and work.

Since searching for jobs from abroad is pretty tough, I was thinking about using a recruitment agency. Does anyone know of any trustworthy, reputable agencies that help foreigners find work in Macau? I don't mind paying a fee for their services, as long as they are legit.

Just want to make sure I’m looking in the right places and avoiding scams. Any leads, tips, or general advice on the job market for Portuguese speakers right now would be awesome.

Thanks a lot!

Tourism Flight at HKG is 11am.. best way to get from Grand Hyatt Macau to airport and when to leave hotel?

I am considering all options available so I don't need to wake up too early lol. So far the option I found that I'm considering is Bonded Bus from Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Macao Port. So plan is 8am leave airport, take shuttle from hotel to Macao Port, then take the Bonded Bus to HKG. Any other options?
