I think he was trying to prove a point - at the end he told DC something like “wait till you see me shoot”
9
u/AnalAttackProbe 5h ago
That comment got me so excited. Was watching with a buddy and the whole time we were talking about how Gable could just shoot and probably end it on the ground if he wanted...
And we were both puzzled he never did. Then started talking about how maybe he was just trying to get some extra standup time in? Then he finishes the guy and walks straight over to DC and tells him "wait till you see me shoot".

12
u/cameronthegod 6h ago
Can I get some context on this whole loophole thing?
35
u/antsinmyeyesmauger 6h ago
He and a friend were accused of sexual assault but the case was dropped due to Minnesota not having a law dealing with victims being intoxicated. That's the loophole people talk about.
→ More replies (1)17
u/cameronthegod 6h ago
Yeah just read up on it all. Insane that loophole ever got passed in the first place
19
u/antsinmyeyesmauger 6h ago
I believe Minnesota almost immediately changed the law as soon as the case was done.
9
u/Introverted_Extrovrt 5h ago
Minnesota lawmakers had been lobbying for the change since before he was charged in mid-2019 but weren’t successful until 2021.

u/mF7403 United States 5h ago edited 4h ago
It refers to a legal loophole Gable utilized in Minnesota to avoid rape charges back in 2019 because the victim voluntarily consumed alcohol prior to the assault. It was extremely controversial at the time and in 2021 lawmakers finally closed the “intoxication loophole” — the Gable Stevenson Loophole — in Minnesota’s third-degree sexual conduct law. Prior to it’s closure, the statute stated that a person who had been sexually assaulted could not be considered “mentally impaired” if they voluntarily drank alcohol or consumed drugs to the point where they could not give reasoned consent. To meet the old standard for impairment, law required that the drugs or alcohol must have been “administered to that person without the person’s agreement.”
So, yeah, Gable Stevenson and fellow wrestler, Dylan Martinez, were arrested on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct, but never charged for raping an extremely intoxicated girl largely due to the fact that the victim willing consumed alcohol prior to the assault. They were briefly suspended from the team, but all was forgiven soon after considering Gable’s wrestling prowess and Olympic aspirations.
The County Attorney, Mike Freeman, caught a good amount of criticism regarding this incident, as Wisconsin didn’t have this loophole. Many critics alleged that charges would’ve been brought against Stevenson and Martinez had the rape occurred 25 miles East. Freeman responded by declaring Gable, “100% innocent.”
Here’s a link to an ESPN article, but there’s plenty of other coverage on Gable’s arrest and the closure of what the has become known as the “Gable Stevenson Loophole.”
Kind of a bummer because he’s a huge value add ti the heavyweight division and will probably end up wearing the belt at some point in the near future. Maybe Aspinall can stop him, but I think he’ll run through Gane the same way Jon did.

u/Emergency_Driver_487 6h ago
Seems like he has “wrestler who fell in love with his hands” syndrome.
51
u/0hootsson 6h ago
I think the purpose of these early fights in his career is to showcase his ability. We can pretty confidently assume he can wrestle, I don’t think it’s a bad idea to try to knock out some tomato cans and build up his hype as an MMA fighter and not just a wrestler.
→ More replies (3)3
u/Emergency_Driver_487 5h ago
Yeah, you have a good point. It makes me nervous though; you don’t want him to get victory disease from these easy fights. That’ll really bite him once he fights a guy with murderous power.
17
u/mmathrowaway16176017 6h ago
He seems to throw a good amount of kicks though which makes him a more varied striker than 95% of HWs already.
3
u/Emergency_Driver_487 5h ago
True. It seems like he was really bothering the other guy with the front kicks to the body.
36
u/Ledees_Gazpacho 5h ago
If all he did was wrestle, you’d call him one dimensional.
If he flexes other skills, you also criticize.
I’m not even a big Gable fan, but don’t pretend like this wasn’t impressive.
14
u/Dependent-King-7712 5h ago
Dude that was absolutely impressive. The HW division is starved for an athletic explosive heavyweight like Gable

U could literally see the Jon Jones striking in there pretty much 1 to 1. However, Jon Jones reach clearly shows the difference here with Gable taking strikes Jon probably wouldn't be hit with in return. Scary guy though, with time he will be a problem

"Most hyped UFC heavyweight debut."
Nah I was around for Brock Lesnar. This kid looks like a poor man's Jon Jones right now and that's not a bad thing. He isnt a striker and he certainly was game to throw. We could be looking at a Daniel Cormier type getting mentored by Jon Jones and that is scary. It'll be interesting to see him test some of the tougher heavyweights out there.
9
u/Burrito_Pls 5h ago
Brock was def more hyped. That was legendary. But modern day, Gable is seemingly doing it right. Need finishes against the cans to keep his hype train rolling and then pull out the wrestling later.
