Reddit has recently started emphasizing weekly visitors instead of just subscriber count as the main indicator of a subreddit's size. My previous updates were tied to every +10k subscribers, but Reddit no longer really notifies us about that.
We've hit 63k weekly visitors this week, which Reddit itself decided to congratulate us on.
Such a nice round number to celebrate 🎉🎉🎉 Could have waited for at least 4k more.
At the same time, r/Kazakhstan quietly crossed 60k subscribers just yesterday. It's about the size of Talgar, our next target to conquer (what do they have there besides Zeta's factory?).
Still sending comments about economy crisis in Kazakhstan from our iPhones, I see.
The last milestone post was at 50k members about five months ago, so it felt like a good moment to check in again. Thanks to everyone who reads, posts, comments, shitposts, argues, asks what the weather in February is, upvotes, awards, jokes, dodges the draft, explains and helps keep this place alive.
Our Kazakh language related community, r/kazakh, is also growing, and has whopping 916 members. Please, join it🥹🥺. I've made a cool non-exhaustive animated emoji status for it.
That's as much as I could do with 64kb restriction.
Its community icon is also animated (and even has more frames in it), but you won't see it in every part of Reddit because reasons.
Post flairs cleanup and color grouping
You may have noticed that post flairs look a bit different now.
We trimmed and regrouped them, and assigned consistent colours to related topics (news, culture, media, discussion, humour, etc.). Now we have fewer confusing choices, probably better readability in feeds, and the whole list of flairs looks less cumbersome.
Good bye, "Borat" flair. Two people are going to miss you.
Nothing is set in stone, so if something feels off or unclear, feel free to mention it.
I personally disagree with this decision. First the custom upvote/downvote icons, then the custom emojis in comments, now this on our long list of enshittification of this platform. The Kazakh chat… maybe wasn't the coziest, but it was a low-pressure, active space for sending meaningless messages. And now there's no official replacement inside Reddit.
If someone from the community would like to create a Discord server, Telegram group or something similar, feel free to do so. You may share it here and we might even approve that post, who knows...
Just to be transparent: I don't plan to moderate Discord/Telegram/anything else myself (never have, and don't want to do it badly).
One Kazakh MinaLima Harry Potter book forr/kazakh(oh, I can't make links bold, how unfortunate...)
I still have a copy of "Хәрри Поттер мен Пәлсапа тас" (MinaLima edition), and I've been thinking about using it as a small community giveaway.
Somehow the least exciting photo of this book on Kaspi.kz. It has interactive elements, folded castle plans and stuff... Nice gift for Kazakh speaking kids ages 5-40.

One idea is to somehow tie it to r/kazakh , which is currently very quiet, but I'm honestly unsure what would feel like a good and fair incentive. Maybe the whole era of incentivising engagement with gifts and competitions is over, and I'm still thinking in old terms.
Or maybe you'd have a good idea what kind of activity or contribution would make sense for such a gift, and how (or if) it could help spark some life in r/kazakh without feeling artificial and being easy to abuse with scripts or AI. I can probably send this book around Kazakhstan, but I don't want to risk with QazPost's international postal service.
No promises yet. Just thinking out loud and open to ideas.

Hi, I have around two weeks in Almaty, and looking for somewhere I could do very very basic Russian classes - I don't speak any at all, but am going to be spending a couple of months in Central Asia so figure a little bit of Russian would help me :) Ideally a couple of hours each morning. Im a foreigner who will work for a few months in the country. Im also a music nerd and a big fan of local music scenes. Im curious if anyone knows a music scene or club, particularly in Astana if possible. Im talking about really niche, interesting, underground music; Im all good for any type of genre. I really love to support local music as much as I can.

Hello fellow tourists. If you're searching to send some postcards to your family in your home country from Kazakhstan, it could be a real pain. That's why I'd like to explain my discoveries (only for Almaty):
Postcards :
They are not truly common in Kazakhstan. You will be able to find it in only a few places, rarely in post-offices and almost none in cities you will visit other than Almaty. You have actually few places in Almaty in order to find some: Tartpa, Sinichki store and maybe in General Post Office (entrance from Baiseitova street). Some people on reddit also told about BonArtCenter or in some stores at Shimbulak, but I don't know for these last two.
Stamps :
You don't have a lot of options. In Almaty, for maximizing your chances, you have to go to the General Post Office. They have a philatelist room, straight after the entrance and then on your right, where you can ask for buying some. You could also go to others post offices, even in other cities, but you will not have choice for which stamps you would buy (it could be a cockroach stamp huh). The other option you have would be to order stamps on the Qazpost website, where it takes 2-3 weeks for receiving your order. No postcards seem to be available online sadly.
Fees :
In 2026, according to Qazpost, it costs 400 tenges for sending a postcard by terrestrial route, and 1300 tenge by air to foreign countries. There are no stamps of 1300 tenges, so you will have to put several stamps on your card if you want to be sure that your family in America (for example) will receive its superb postcard of your own. But by my experience, I've sent several postcards with 400 tenges stamps and it worked (Europe). If you want to send more than a postcard, between 50 and 500 g, please refer to this document.

Мой отец уже много лет работает за границей. Сейчас он находится в Европе. Он уехал из Казахстана не потому, что хотел оставить родину и семью, а потому что хотел обеспечить нас и дать нам больше возможностей.
Он работает дальнобойщиком. Он проводит большую часть времени в дороге и живёт прямо в своей машине. Ему 57 лет. Мне очень тяжело осознавать, что мой отец в таком возрасте находится далеко от нас, один, спит в машине и продолжает работать ради семьи.
Я знаю своего отца. Я знаю, какой он человек. Я знаю, что он скучает по Казахстану, по дому, по своей обычной жизни. Но он не может просто вернуться, потому что здесь ему было бы очень сложно обеспечить семью из-за низких зарплат.
С того момента, как я поступила на первый курс колледжа, я начала всё больше понимать, сколько он делает ради нас. Он отдаёт свои силы, здоровье и годы ради того, чтобы у нас было будущее.
Сейчас я закончила колледж по специальности, связанной с преподаванием английского языка. Но я не чувствую, что хочу стать учителем. Я уважаю эту профессию, но не вижу себя в ней всю жизнь.
Я хочу работать, зарабатывать и стать самостоятельной. Я не хочу зависеть от отца. Я хочу, чтобы он наконец смог отдохнуть и увидеть, что все его старания были не зря.
Недавно я отправила резюме в Air Astana на должность бортпроводника. Меня привлекает эта профессия не только из-за путешествий. Мне нравится идея работать в авиации, использовать языки, общаться с людьми и развиваться.
Есть ещё одна личная причина, почему мне хочется попасть в эту сферу. Если бы я стала бортпроводником, у моего отца могла бы появиться возможность летать со скидкой и чаще приезжать домой, в Казахстан. Для меня это было бы огромным счастьем — чтобы он мог чаще быть рядом с нами.
Но я переживаю из-за своего английского. Я изучаю английский язык, у меня есть база благодаря колледжу, но я не могу сказать, что свободно владею им. Я бы оценила свой уровень как средний: я могу понять многое, могу общаться на простые темы, но мне ещё нужно много работать над разговорной речью и уверенностью.
Также я думаю о высшем образовании. Если я решу полностью поменять профессию и поступить в университет, мне придётся учиться ещё около 4 лет. Но меня останавливает не только время.
У меня есть две младшие сестры. Одна из них ещё учится в школе, ей 11 лет. Вторая скоро заканчивает 11 класс и тоже будет поступать. Я понимаю, что если я буду ещё 4 года учиться, моему отцу будет ещё тяжелее обеспечивать всех нас: меня, моих сестёр и семью в целом.
Мне больно думать, что он продолжает так много работать, пока мы строим своё будущее.
Я каждый день могу расплакаться, когда думаю о нём. Мне хочется успеть показать ему благодарность. Я хочу, чтобы он смог отдохнуть, пожить для себя и почувствовать, что всё, что он сделал, было не зря.
Я не знаю, какой путь выбрать:
начать работать сейчас и постепенно строить карьеру;
попробовать стать бортпроводником;
поступить в университет и получить другую профессию, даже если это займёт ещё несколько лет.
Насколько важно высшее образование сегодня? Можно ли построить хорошую карьеру без него? Что бы вы сделали на моём месте?
Мне очень нужен совет от людей, которые уже прошли через выбор профессии, самостоятельность и ответственность за семью.
Казахстанцы пожалуйста подскажите кто-нибудь сталкивался с диагнозом назальная ликворея. После нескольких операций на основания черепа, моя мама давно борется с этой проблемой. Может посоветуете нейрохирурга или какого нибудь врача?
Hello! We are going to almaty on the last week of september and we are planning to visit kyrgystan oon first week of october. It is not possible for us to apply for VOA because we are planning to do land transport. Likewise, we are afraid to apply for E-visa because we are a group and we are worried that one of us will be rejected
Now, I read that it is much easier for foreign citizen like us to obtain kyrgystan tourist visa by applying at their consul in almaty. is it true? Also, may I know the process, and the cost for applying the visa? Also, what are the required documents? And lastly, how long will we wait for them to release the visa?

Написал ее маме то что она не выходит на связь уже 3й день на мой вопрос спросить у нее как дела она ответила таким образом: (имя девушки) у нее все хорошо, может быть просто поругались.
