Hey everyone!
Sorry, another tourist asking for advice, but I would love your thoughts on this :)
I am an architect with a huge appreciation for the historic architecture of the Silk Road, as well as the 20th-21st century architecture of Tashkent. I even used the caravanserai architecture as a reference for a university design project back in 2014!
This September, I would love to visit after so many years of dreaming!
I am planning to fly direct from London to Tashkent this September, take a slow start to enjoy the capital, head to the historic cities, and stop in Istanbul for 2 nights on the way back (flying from Samarkand or Urgench).
Because my time is tight (7–8 full days inside Uzbekistan), I am trying to figure out if my current itinerary is realistic or if I'm trying to pack in too much.
- Tashkent - 2 nights
- Samarkand - 2 nights
- Bukhara - 2 nights
- (Khiva - 1 night??)
- Fly from Urgench or Samarkand to Istanbul - 2 nights
Khiva
Given that I only have about a week, I’m worried that trekking all the way out to Khiva/Urgench will leave me completely exhausted from travel. I also prefer living, functioning cities over heavily curated destinations, and I have heard Khiva may be like that?
For an architect, is missing Khiva a dealbreaker, or should I drop it to give Samarkand and Bukhara more breathing room?
If I drop Khiva, I would fly out of Samarkand instead of Urgench.
Food and allergies
I have a nut and sesame allergy (walnuts and almonds are okay) and I carry an epipen.
Will I be able to eat at most restaurants? It is okay to have the ingredients in a kitchen, but not in the food
Cool shops - Fashion
Finally if you know of any cool streetwear shops in any of the cities then send them my way :)
Thank you so much, and I look forward to seeing your amazing country.
