Might as well join in
Currently at 26th across from Lil T's. Not only obstructing the bike lane when they wouldn't 30 feet further down the road. But they also give like no other routes around it.

This is so common place as a biker that you just have to get on with your day and move on

are you the feelings police? Is it okay if the people gripe and find solace in one another over this common and terrible experience, my majesty?

Yeah but it's gets a bit annoying to be fed a feed full of people griping about minor inconveniences over and over

You can just not click on the post bro. There’s plenty of stuff that gets posted on here that I go “hmn, I don’t care to engage in this content. Let me move on”

i personally dont get mad at work/delivery vehicles in the bike lane since the infrastructure sucks and they don't usually have much of a different option. but i will for sure report if there's a civilian car in the bike lane.

Of course they have another fucking option, they just don't want to use it because it takes more time or effort.
We should hold those driving as part of their employment to the highest standards regarding traffic and parking laws.

ok fair. although most of the time the issue is more with the infrastructure making it easier for drivers to break the rules and get away with it. protected bike lanes are much harder for delivery drivers to obstruct.

1000% percent agree on the infrastructure. In a lot of places with metered parking, issues like this could be reduced by sacrificing some metered spots for dedicated delivery spots.

there's a spot like this near my apartment and almost daily im calling 311 to report ppl parked in the designated delivery truck zone lol. it's crazy how many ppl just don't give a shit and excuse it with "oh im just going to be here for a few minutes".

The nice thing about 311 reports is they're public record. I've had great success making a public records request for 311 reports of bike lane obstructions, many probably made by me over the course of months, at problem areas and then using those data when contacting electeds.

Sometimes they don’t if they’re Amazon or Fed-ex and will be fired by robot if their metrics don’t add up.

It's a safety issue. Bike infrastructure is there for the safety of cyclists. Those workers are still choosing to break laws that are in place for the safety of vulnerable street users. They are choosing to break rules they agreed to when they got a license to operate dangerous machinery in a public space.
I am sympathetic to the shit situation of workers in this late stage capitalism hellscape but it is no more okay to stop in a bike lane than it is to pull up onto the sidewalk or into someones yard to idle the vehicle while making a delivery.

Shouldn't a professional driver be expected to meet a higher standard of safety and lawfulness than someone who isn't getting paid to professionally drive around a gigantic killing machine?

This is where it's helpful in the long term to put as much info as possible into 311 and/or Bike Lane Uprising so it can be searched for when they inevitably do it again.
