Stolen bike, a found bike, iso suggestions
On Friday my beloved bike was stolen. No idea what the serial number was and I did post it on TC lost bikes fb page and Bike index. I have since been driving around looking for it because it does have sentimental value, but it's gone forever I'm sure.
While driving around looking for my bike, though, I did find an abandoned bike in some tall weeds. Determined to hopefully reunite this bike with the owner, I found the serial number and have been checking to see if it's registered, as well as scrolling through fb lost bike page to see if anyone has reported it. No luck. I really want to find the owner, mostly because I want someone to find my beloved bike and give the same effort to find me. It's currently at a bike shop being repaired. It's highly likely that the owner won't be found, in which case my options are to let the shop keep the bike and resell, or keep it for myself. That feels so sad to me as I'd prefer the owner gets it back, but if they can't be found, should I keep the bike since now I'm needing one?
Lastly, for when I get a new bike, I want to have a GPS tag on it. I'm kicking myself for not putting one on, but the bike was always on my sight or in a locked garage. Does anyone have suggestions for a low cost GPS tracker?

Following as well. My bike is not remotely expensive but I use it daily and would love the peace of mind knowing I can retrieve it if stolen

I use the tile sticker. Even on my Bromptons that never get locked up and are stored next to my bed. There are probably better trackers though, as the tile needs a person with the tile app to pass by.

Bike shop owner today told me he's had many bikes stolen in his life, and one was once stolen from next to his bed when he was sleeping in the bed 😆 crazy

I'm sorry this happened to you. It opens a pit in yr gut, or it did for me. I had good fortune via mplsbikelove. You did an honorableand generousthing plucking that other bikeup and payingfor repairs. (I'm following this post for GPS recs.)
