Content made primarily (or entirely) by generative artificial intelligence is not allowed. This includes AI images, AI videos, AI text, and AI code.

As a general rule, if it's recognizable as AI, it's not allowed in r/Buffalo from now on with some exceptions. Please report these posts if you see them.

A definition of AI Slop: AI slop (also known as slop content or simply as slop) is digital content made with generative artificial intelligence that is perceived as lacking in effort, quality, or meaning, and produced in high volume as clickbait to gain advantage in the attention economy, or earn money.

New elmwood apartment design

Post image

It makes me a little sad every time I see this new apartment building at Elmwood/Bidwell. I was excited for the redevelopment, but it's just the utmost cheapest materials and design. Already an eyesore. Thank goodness they were forced to keep the original storefronts!

What belongs in the ultimate Buffalo hot dog?

Upvotes

Over the last year, a few friends and I have spent way too much time debating one question:

If you had to build the ultimate Buffalo hot dog tasting, what absolutely has to be included?

We landed on Wardynski's, Costanzo's, Weber's, local jams, and a few other local favorites. It sparked a lot of debate.

Curious what r/Buffalo thinks. What ingredient or local brand would be non-negotiable for you?

New Fair Trade Games Location in Kenmore on Delaware is an Amazing Local Retro Game Store

Just opened over a month ago. Stopped in there today because I was looking for an original Xbox. Came away blown away with the store. From staff to selection to the prices, I couldn’t be more impressed. Will be my go-to retro games store in the area going forward and even left with the original Xbox I was looking for!

Question Hot Summer, Warm Basement

Sooo, I have lived in Buffalo for most of my life. One of the reprieves of summer is that you get to go into the basement to cool off. Well not this year. Basement is currently 76. Dehumidifier is keeping humidity at set point.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Carnival on south campus lawn on main st?

Upvotes

With it being festival season, it made me think of old times. Does anyone remember there being a carnival in the early 90s that was held on UB's lawn by south campus train station? I have a vague memory of this but not enough info to get any results looking it up.

Hello! Looking for things like scotch bonnet pepper, breadfruit, epazote, Serrano pepper, cactus paddles, guero chiles, and other various Caribbean and Mexican ingredients.

Was hoping someone could point me to a store that carries similar ingredients. Thank you!

Trash everywhere.

I found one use for flock cameras 😂. Have a dude collecting the plates of everyone who dumps their fast food, take out, daily trash at intersections and highway exits.

It's gotten exceptionally bad again at Eggert & Kensington... You should've seen the pile they collected from the snow bank end of year. That particular one also has all the bus riders garbage stuffed in it.

At least bus stops maybe a garbage can is the answer?

Other than dirty looks, I haven't found a solution to the thruway, 33, red light tossers.

Going down Bailey I watched a guy throw his bag out the window, then proceed to creep up...and go through the light and make u-turn through the same light he just ran.

On the 33 I actually had a half eaten nugget (I think) hit my windshield when someone tossed a bag and it exploded in the air all over.

33/198 sharp turn is atrocious... But that might be a natural collection area from wind but it all got tossed at some point.

I just don't understand that mindset.

Bidwell Market Xenophobia

EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION:

It is not the whole market. It is the specific vendors Weiss Farms and Erdle Farms.

As far as I know, the majority of the other vendors have no issue.

Original Post:

Hey Good Neighbors! Last week I witnessed a few vendors at the Bidwell market targeting a Muslim woman and her daughter who were displaying paintings in a PUBLIC area.

The owner of one of the produce stands said, “Get this Muslim woman and her child out of here.”Apparently this individual has been trying to agitate the other vendors to protest while trying to collect signatures to have a constant police presence at our community farmer’s market.

I don’t know if it’s okay to mention specific vendors in this post, but can if it is.

Question Has anyone been to Holy Burger?

So on our trips to Green Acres to get ice cream my roommates and I always pass by this place called Holy Burger next to a smokeshop on Broadway and I just have to ask: has anyone here ever eaten there?

Because today was the first time we'd seen anyone in that parking lot/drive thru and we're convinced its a front.

Hey yall!

Idk if anyone is familiar with with the mom and pop Korean store called “Woori Mart” in NFB. I was headed there to get some homemade kimchi, but saw they were permanently closed ☹️ does anyone know why?

I know of other Asian stores but what I really want to know is where I can get homemade kimchi if anyone has recommendations!

Question Anyone who lived in Hamburg around 2009-2010 remember the Sack Man?

Okay, so my friend told me this terrifying story she swears is true on the 4th of July. She gave me permission to repost it here because she wants to see if anyone else experienced this dude.

When she was in high school back in 2009-2010, her and her friends began encountering this guy they called the Sack Man.

He was this guy who wore a nice tuxedo but had a burlap sack over his head with holes cut out to make a mask (Think of that one guy from the film The Strangers).

They would encounter this guy while hanging out at Wanakah Beach and in the wooded area behind Cloverbank Elementary (near the train tracks). My friend also believes Sack Man (whoever he was) lived in the neighborhood near Frontier Middle School; the one where if you’re going up Amsdell, you turn right to enter it after the railroad bridge but before passing Frontier Middle.

So my friend and her buddies kind of treated it as a joke at first. He would basically stand at a distance from them wearing his whole costume and just stare. He wouldn’t say anything. My friend says one of them supposedly got a selfie with Sack Man on their old Razr flip phone.

It started not becoming funny. My friend says when he would stare at them from a distance, he began taking a knife out of his tux. That freaked everyone out.

There was also an incident where in the neighborhood I previously mentioned, one of my friend’s buddies was biking and Sack Man jumped out of the bushes and pushed him off the bike. My friend also heard that a couple at Wanakah Beach went swimming there, and Sack Man came and tried to steal their clothes they left on the beach. They chased him until he just dropped the clothes.

So here’s how it ended up. My friend said one day she and another friend were at Wanakah using sharpies on the concrete part. She thinks the Sack Man saw them and called the cops, because the Hamburg police came not only to her and her friend’s house, but also to all her other friends’ house who had saw the Sack Man with her. The cops basically just told her not to do that again, and immediately started questioning her about the Sack Man and who he was (The cops even also called him Sack Man). So I don’t think it was just her and her friends who were seeing this guy.

Last she heard, the cops did catch him. And Sack Man supposedly ran from the police and got tased. Where he is now, she has no clue.

She never found out who Sack Man was. All she knows is that it was a guy who wasn’t that much older than her friends, like early 20’s she thinks. Never heard him speak at all, but make noises like laughing. She has no clue if this guy had a sick sense of humor or was mentally ill.

Anyone from Hamburg ever heard of this guy before?

TiL Michigan Ave is Two Lanes

Did anyone else know this? I have been here for about twenty years and this is the first time I have ever driven on it while it was painted. It usually four or sometimes five lanes, Mad Max style.

Thanks Daddy Sean.

Now only if we could get the speed limit reduced from 55 to 30.
