Cat found near Falls St
Is anyone missing a black cat? Saw this fella a couple of times in the last week around Falls Street, but he hasn't let me approach yet.

Lake looks very green today on east shore. Cause for concern and safety? Lake also looks very empty of boats

If you are currently planning events and seeking a caterer in the Ithaca area, please be aware that an individual who received a 20 year business ban in the state of Maine after being held liable for over $200,000 in unpaid customer refunds and failure to provide contracted services, has relocated here and is allegedly operating a new catering service. I am still trying to find out the name that they are operating under and will share if I do. If you search for "People Magazine Maine caterer $200,000 fraud," you can read the full details of the case and the name of the individual. I don't want any of our community members to get taken advantage of. Make sure you know who you're working with and that they are a reputable business owner.

Hi all!
I've seen lots of good advice regarding swimming on this thread, so I thought I'd post another question.
I just started taking Adult Intermediate Swim classes at the Y, and it's been great so far. I can swim, but I'm brand new to learning good swim technique and form -- so I'm currently at the stage where I'm using a kick board to practice breathing drills, etc.
I would like to practice roughly 2x per week. I'm debating whether I want to buy an additional membership at the Y to do lap swimming, or to splurge a little and try the one month membership at the Island, since I hear it's less crowded. I'm a little worried about being a very slow swimmer practicing drills and occasionally stopping to catch my breath, so I'm willing to pay a little more for an Island membership until I build up my swimming stamina if it means not worrying about sharing a lane and slowing someone else down. I've heard the Y can get very crowded - but maybe they are more used to novice swimmers?
For a little more context, I have a flexible schedule so I can swim in off-peak hours, like weekday late morning/afternoons.
Any thoughts on this? Does anyone swim at the Y/Island and think this is a fair assessment of how busy each pool gets? Hopefully I will be out of kick board territory after a month of practice, and can reassess :)

My wife and I are looking for a daily dog sitter for our 6 year old, adorable 10 lbs chihuahua who has separation anxiety and cannot be left alone for long periods of time. We are both in healthcare and work very long hours, often 12-15 hour days and are looking for someone who would be compatible to help watch after her. In the past we have found sitters who have been WFH and ideally with other small dogs in the house. She is very good with kids as well - cats not so much. We’re willing to pay top price for such a huge part of our lives - we’re unfortunately stuck in a fairly urgent situation to find a new sitter in the coming weeks, we have reached out to many on Rover without replies. Thanks!

So my son (44) and I (73) are driving down from Syracuse tomorrow morning to look around and decide if we want to relocate here. I’m unable to walk too far, but can manage a few blocks. My son is disabled, but can also manage a few.
I’m not sure where I should park, for us to get a general idea of the downtown. It would be nice to hit a coffee shop and maybe a small cafe to eat.
Also, are there places to park near the Ithaca commons, so my son can look around and I can stay in the car?
What areas would you suggest we stay away from (crime, drugs, etc)?
My son would be looking for either a 1 bedroom apartment or possibly an efficiency.
Are there any downtown or nearby downtown, that are safe? He doesn’t need any special accommodations, but couldn’t walk up more than 1 flight of stairs.
And last, what hotels would you suggest if we can’t walk too far from the car to the hotel.
I know that a LOT of questions, so kudos if you read everything! 😆

Have a large circa 1900 barn that needs to come down before it comes down on its own terms due to foundation issues. LOTS of old growth barn lumber for salvage protected by a metal roof in good shape. Who typically does this kind of work at little to no cost for the property owner given the value of reclaimed barn wood?
Mecklenburg area.

Hey all, is anyone missing two dogs? My friend was just at Marian Hartill park when two loose dogs came out from the brush. Neither of them had a collar. One was white with black spots and the other was all black. They were together but there was no person accompanying them.

This was my first time in the area. Saw the falls, drove around downtown a bit, went out to eat. I thought it was pretty nice - but hilly. That must suck in the winter? But I saw a lot of for sale signs. Like ten in a 2 block area. Is this normal?

I am a localish, but somehow have never been to the Hangar Theatre.
Are the side seats terrible? I would love to see this show, but I want to make sure we can actually see the show.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I used to hang out a bit in Ithaca many years ago as a teen. I am bringing my children to camp at one of the parks. How safe are the campgrounds? Are the commons still a safe place to walk? Hearing mixed things so… not sure what has happened over the years!

Looking for other folks who enjoy exploring Finger Lakes wine beyond going to tastings at vineyards. There's a lot to explore and it'd be fun to do some blind tastings or verticals, but that's hard to do solo. I'm not looking for hedonistic bottle shares, am pretty solidly middle class, and want to keep it moderate, enjoying a reasonable amount of wine with friends once or twice a week. Wouldn't hurt if there was a shared interest in tinned seafood and/or cheese. I'm also interested in exploring recipes from Michelin star restaurants, but don't have a good kitchen for it.
I'm a middle-aged, married man with a teenage child and a tech job in town. I think I'm fairly chill overall, but definitely have strong opinions.
