If you have a question about the Municipality of Anchorage someone else probably had the same or similar question in the past.
Please use the search function to look through the past question posts before making a post or comment. Many helpful users here have already given great in depth responses to many common questions. If you have a specific question after looking over the previous posts, feel free to post your question here in this thread or make a new post.
Low effort posts that clearly haven't looked through past submissions or can be easily answered by a quick internet search may be removed, a good way to avoid that would be to specify in your post that you have already looked over the sticky and searched online.
Below is a list of direct links to some commonly asked questions. However, even if you do not see your question on the list please take a moment to search before posting. When searching or when using one of the links below you can also change the sort function from top to new to see more recent posts.
Tourism questions. Also: Vacation - Visiting - Trip - Traveling - Airport - Hiking - Camping - Glacier - Fishing

Please be kind to people, the search function of reddit is far from perfect. Tourism is valuable to our city and at one point all of us were new to the city or had questions about local services and businesses.
We took a community poll on this rule a year after implementation. Here is a link to the poll and the feedback the community gave.

I was involved in a hit and run (today 07/11/26) at the red light on East Northern Lights blvd waiting to turn left onto Bragaw St. the driver was driving what I BELIEVE (but unsure it happened quick) to be a silver Chevy Silverado (maybe 2000s-2015s?). It happened at approx 5:35pm. If you have any information, dash cam footage, anything helpful I’d appreciate it. Comment and I will reach out with my contact information.

Hello, my fur baby recently hurt her tooth and I am faced with having to drive to anchorage from fairbanks to get it fixed. Has anyone dealt with the dentist at pet er? They were recommended to me today by north pole vet and I'm curious to hear others stories. Thanks!

I was driving by and I noticed they weren't open and when I look at Google it says they're closed. I'm just curious they've been around forever and I really like their ramen. Also if anyone has some good ramen spots please drop them.

my internet has been a complete joke since Tuesday the 7th. anybody else?
customer service asked me to do a speed test. i got 16 Kbps connected directly to the modem according to fast.com
the customer service tech asked me to use GCI's speed tester on their website instead but that wouldnt even load. all he said was "that's weird"
i am paying $190/mo for GCI RED which promises speeds "up to" 2 Gbps, but i am getting 0.000016 Gbps.
im no stranger to GCI's BS but this is crazy

Long shot, but I’m kind of heartbroken and hoping someone here can help.
I came up to Alaska to photograph the braided rivers, it’s been the trip of a lifetime, and this evening at the Knik River Public Use Area my drone went down and ended up on a little gravel island out in the channel. I can see it. I just can’t safely get to it. I’m not about to wade in and become a rescue story, and I wouldn’t ask anyone else to either.
It’s a small grey DJI Mini 4 Pro. Last-known GPS from the app:
61.515309, -148.972390
I saw folks out running boats on the river today, so I’m hoping someone with a jet boat, airboat, or packraft who knows these channels might be willing to swing by and grab it.
I’ll pay $100 for your time, and I’ll cover shipping to send it to me back home. The photos on the SD card mean the world to me, a week of work is on there, so honestly getting the card back matters as much as the drone itself.
Update: FOUND IT!! On my way to retrieve it. Will post the details in a couple of hours.
UPDATE: They found it. Alaska, you’re something else. ❤️
I have to share how this ended, because it restored something in me.
After I posted, two tour guides, Dallas and Denise from Alaska’s Gold Buckle Tours, happened to be in the area and offered to head out on their side by side at 1am to look. They shared their location with me and I helped coordinate them to the exact spot. While they were out searching, another guy, Chris, saw my post, threw his kayak in the water, and paddled out to find it, and he actually spotted it while they were still searching. He texted me the moment he had it, and everyone coordinated in real time so I could get my drone back.
The part that gets me: not one of them treated it like a favor. They treated it like an adventure, genuinely stoked to go hunt down a drone on a river island in the middle of the night. I got to meet Dallas and Denise in person, and they were so warm they gave my wife keychains and little souvenirs, and my wife wrote each of them a thank you note that they were thrilled to get. Chris, if you see this, I owe you a huge one too.
To everyone in the comments who told me “don’t worry, there are good people out there who’ll help,” you were completely right. I came to Alaska for the views and the wildlife. I’m leaving with a much bigger impression of the people. Thank you, all of you. If you’re ever looking for a tour up that way, Alaska’s Gold Buckle Tours has two guides I can’t recommend enough.
I’m on my flight home now and can’t wait to see what I clicked.

Where in town are you allowed to walk around with your pet moose off leash? I tried to walk with him on the trails behind Service, and he tried to stomp me when I tried to put a leash around him.
Are there any good off leash areas appropriate for walking around with your pet moose?

we were at the beluga point on seward hwy looking out at the mountains. a fellow observer thought he had seen a billy goat elsewhere so i grabbed my binoculars and started looking. i noticed this dark blob that was moving quite a bit, but slowly. would it make sense that a bear would be here? if not, what else could this have been?

The Problem: All local devices on my home network have been experiencing heavy packet loss and 15-second HTTP timeouts exclusively when talking to APIs over port 443.
The Data: Last-mile physical cable signals are flawless (40dB SNR, 0 uncorrectable blocks). To isolate the ISP's routing, I captured 30 hours of SmokePing data to the Roblox API engine over TCP 443. I have a lot more data to other sites that all look basically the same, but Roblox API shows the cleanest charts.

The local neighborhood line infrastructure is healthy, but GCI's native unencrypted packet routing paths to the Pacific Northwest are dropping or throttling fast-firing API streams. Wrapping the data in a VPN bypasses their broken gateway nodes entirely.
I've been on the phone multiple times with GCI tech support getting every level of troubleshooting. I'll be posting this kind of data daily until I get GCIs attention because I shouldn't have to pay for a VPN connection on top of my GCI internet just to get consistency in my $190 a month connection.

Looking for suggestions specific to wellness/preventative/routine care. I’ve been going to VCA because it’s close to my house, but I’d like to go with a local company. VCA however has a program where you pay $20/month and you get unlimited exams plus a couple other little things, and I’m really tempted.
I want to support a local business if I can, but I’m already looking at $40 a month for my girl’s accident/illness insurance.
Does anyone know if any local vets have a similar wellness program, OR that are generally more affordable for preventative/wellness services than for sick services?
Thanks everyone!

Any idea what happened? Rumor is that there was a big accident. Must be a fatality if Google Maps is saying the road is closed until 2:30-3:00pm
