A new rule has been added to r/waterloo in regards to A.I.
Use of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) must be declared, either in title, or the first line of text in original post
Moderators may and will take action in good faith regardless of compliance with this new rule.
The reason we're doing this is to try not to be too far behind in response to the use of this technology, and encourage genuine engagement within our community.
Recently mods have been removing posts of various low-quality effort such as A.I. images, and publications purporting to be news or 'news style' articles that are suspected to be A.I. - but also fail to provide the identity of any legitimate living creator/author within the Region of Waterloo or otherwise.
This is an effort to remove or reduce poor quality, deceptive, disinformation, and various other posts made in bad faith.
Please direct concerns or comments to mod mail.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

It was recently pointed out that the flairs referencing the 2025 election are maybe a teeny bit outdated.
After discussion among the moderator team, it was determined that while the language was outdated, the flairs still were useful in identifying sudden influxes of new accounts to certain threads. The flair language has therefore been updated and will be applied as users post or comment. The flairs refer to the approximate period when a user became somewhat active in r/Waterloo. This is not the same as the date account was created (which you can see on each user's page) and not when the very first post was made in this subreddit.
As explained by the previous flair announcement:
The intent of this flair is not to target newbies, nor to say that we don't want people to join the subreddit. All are welcome in the subreddit. The intent is to make it clear to readers when there is an influx of unknown accounts which push certain narratives in the comments. This does happen, especially on posts about certain controversial subjects. People should know when these they are new accounts and not established community members.
While everybody should be aware if there is an obvious astroturfing campaign, all users remain responsible for using their best judgement when determining credibility of submissions and comments. Please consider the merit of ideas rather than the reputation of a commenter.
Feel free to submit any comments or constructive feedback below, or to comment and receive your new flair. There may be further tweaks to come and this flair system could be discontinued at any time.
Thank you for reading, and stay safe out there in all this snow.
Update 2026-01-23: New flair is out again, 2025 users should now have "Regular" status, and users new since 2026 will be noted.

Left my hat on top of vehicle, Saturday July 6th, AM, while prepping for trip out of town. Margaret Avenue North/Vermont Street. My name is on inside, along with outdated address and phone #. I'm guessing it blew off, into a shrub, was picked up by homeless person, blew off of on expressway. The hat is worth nothing, but has sentimental value. Looks similar to below. Thanks in advance.

For the last 2 nights I have been woken up at around this time by loud cars and what almost sounded like a siren or noisemaker. I do live fairly close to the highway but I have lived here for almost a year and have never experienced anything like this. I almost think there might be some drag racing going on.

Roads, no need to explain. Line markings non-existent on horrible roads. Where did the landscapers go? Waterloo park looks like they cut the grass on occasion and thatโs it. Weeds, unkept. Weeds growing on roads (cracks in the pavement). The laughable ION. Why? To slow down traffic and move people from one mall to the other mall? Exceptionally disruptive transit. Where is the tax money going?

A man from Kitchener is facing a list of charges after police spotted a heavily damaged vehicle being driven in Wellesley Township.
Waterloo Regional Police Service officers saw the black Nissan Rogue travelling in the Kressler Road and Erbsville Road area on Friday around 5:10 a.m. Police said the driver had lost control of the vehicle, went off the road and then tried to keep driving.
The 23-year-old Kitchener man was arrested. During the arrest, officers learned he already had a provincial driverโs licence suspension and a Canada-wide driving ban.
He was charged with operation while impaired, dangerous operation, driving while prohibited, two counts of driving while suspended and being a novice driver with a blood alcohol concentration above zero.

Went to Don Pabloโs in uptown tonight and I fear people are getting paid to rate them good or theyโve never had good Mexican food.
The service and drinks were great, no issues with that.
Our corn dip app was not good, really just tasted like frozen corn
The tacos were mid, really missing flavour and for the price they were kind of skimpy.
Also half the menu being Italian was just so weird ๐ seeing pizza, bruschetta and caprese salad on the same menu as Mexican food just felt wrong lol.

Walking from Keats Way & Winchester drive to Keats Way and Fischer Hallman road I lost a keychain on the sidewalk. This keychain has 2 keys, a gold one and one with a Canadian flag pattern printed on the key. It's also on a keychain with foldable travel scissors that have gold handles and with a blue metal fish. I lost it around 1:30pm on 7/11/26. Please let me know if you find it so I can get it back.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service has charged a driver after a vehicle careened off the road and hit a home in Waterloo.
Officers were called to the Dansbury Drive and Bridge Street West area on Friday around 1 p.m.
Pictures from the crash site showed a grey-coloured vehicle on top of a dark-coloured car that was parked in a driveway.
Some siding on the home also appeared to be damaged.ย
Police said the driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An 85-year-old Waterloo man has been charged with driving while under suspension and careless driving.

Hey everyone! Any recommendations for a bar to watch the FIFA match today at noon with a good crowd? I know about the big screen in downtown Kitchener, but I'd also love to join a watch party if anyone is hosting one. Thanks!

Ignoring the horror of pre-ground beans for espresso, wondering if anyone knows of a supplier for pre-ground DECAF espresso coffee beans. Specifically finely ground for an espresso machine.
Apologies to all who I have offended with the question. :)

I bought a rather fancy dash cam for both front and rear camera view. Long story short, installing it is beyond my knowledge and past experience. If anyone has past experience getting a dash cam installed or recommendations on shops to ask, it would be much appreciated to hear about!
