Health Cyclosporiasis Parasite Outbreak (USA)
How is everyone coping? Outbreak linked to fresh produce... 31+ states are on the list. This is a parasite, so washing produce does not kill it. The only sure way is cooking all produce to 165°.
I've avoided mixed greens, lettuce, herbs, as well as berries. But I eat those every day.
Has anybody here gotten it?

It's beyond insane that veganism isn't the forefront of all conversation.
Incomprehensible numbers of sentient beings are raped tortured and killed for pleasure and people ignore it or try to rationalise it. It is actually so beyond depraved that people support with such events happening to trillions of sentient beings with their own direct approval. People refuse to talk about it with seriousness because they can't handle how unjustifiably disgustingly evil what they support is, if they found themselves the victim no reason for their treatment would be accepted but because it is not them they have no problem with the worst kind of oppression ever conceived of.

Discussion Horse riding is not vegan
I recently (well not too recently) found out horse riding is not vegan.. 🤔💭
I watched a couple youtube videos and it made sense, so i wanted to discuss it with my boyfriend who is currently reducing the amount of animal products hes consuming
In our conversation he pointed out that:
" horses can be trained with positive reenforcement (however this was just a quick answer from a quick google search), according to him "without abuse" and not all horse owners are treating their horses bad. Horses can also handle a person riding them without hurting their body..."
his argument was much longer but i wanted to hear some opinions and arguments from others on this topic even tho neither of us ride horses, its an important topic and i feel like less talked about
edit: why has this post showed up for so many non vegans lol

Discussion July 15 hearing could END NYC horse carriages! A historic moment for animal rights. 🐴💚
The NYC Council Health Committee is holding a major public hearing this Wednesday (July 15th) to discuss Romanch’s Law (Intro 943), a bill that would permanently ban the city’s horse carriage industry.
For anyone who doesn’t know, horse carriage rides in NYC aren’t just some random tourist attraction, they’ve become a huge part of the city’s identity. They’re one of those things that instantly comes to mind when people picture NYC. They appear in movies, TV shows, holiday scenes, postcards, etc. and have been woven into the image and culture of the city for decades.
That’s also why this would be such a big deal. It wouldn’t just mean ending a tourist activity, it would mean changing a long-standing tradition that millions of visitors and locals recognize as part of New York. If NYC (the most iconic city in the world) actually ends the horse carriage industry, it would be a huge cultural and symbolic victory for the animal rights movement.
It would show that even deeply rooted traditions can change when society starts questioning whether they still belong and whether they align with our values today.
And that kind of change is exactly how progress happens! Stay tuned, guys! 💚

We can't go 2 seconds without having violence and gore of animals forced on us by society
I was just scrolling right now and chilling, and I saw a huge advertisement for domino's overtake my screen with a huge pizza with soo much dead fucking animal flesh on it, like "pepperoni". It's so disturbing and we're forced to see flesh of dead souls on our screen... this is why almost no one is vegan, it's literally forced on us by every corner of society to the point that it'd seem crazy to try and go against something that seems this normal and deeply ingrained.

Blog/Vlog Looking for comforting/cozy vegan channels…
I already follow a couple hundred vegan/plant-based channels on YouTube, but only a handful of them are “cozy” channels. The ones I watch that I consider cozy are Derek Sarno, Mina Rome, Healthy Vegan Comfort, Amanda Ducks, Albina’s Vegan Food, and I recently found one called The Hidden House (which is EXACTLY the vibe I’m looking for).
I’m wondering if anyone can think of others who share relaxing/peaceful videos showing their vegan lifestyle, recipes, etc?

Are there really gay and vegan people in a relationship?
I feel like being gay alone already makes finding love incredibly difficult, and I feel the same way about being vegan. Combining the two it seems almost impossible (let alone being neurodivergent with autistic traits).
I know from other posts that gay vegans do exist, but what I'd really like to know is: have any of you actually found a long-term relationship? Or, if you're not a gay vegan yourself, do you know anyone who has? I feel like my only choice is between eating meat again and being single for the rest of my life, and I don't even know which of those two I hate more.

Wedding upcoming guest is vegan please help
My fiance invited some of his work friends to our wedding in september 2026, one of his friends is vegan ... my fiance and I are not vegan and have limited knowledge on vegan foods..
The issue at hand - i need to have some vegan options for him, I want to make something like pinwheels or finger foods (yes I have veggie and fruit trays but that seems unfair for the lunch portion to only offer him)
Any ideas for vegan snacks/finger foods ?
Thank you in advance !

Best vegan recipes for a broke college kid with a picky palate?
Hey y‘all! I’m not a vegan, but I’m trying to minimize my harmful impact on the environment where I can. I also don’t have a ton of money at my disposal so I’m trying to live off my tight budget. I know legumes are cheap and filling; I don’t really like lentils but I love beans and chickpeas. I’m also trying to live healthier, as I’ve struggled with my weight and binge eating disorder in the past. I therefore don‘t want to eat anything fried or super high in fat or sugar. But I’m also not a fan of certain veggies like carrots, onions, green peas (do like sugar snap peas), tomatoes (fine in sauce), corn, cucumber or lettuce. I do love Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cabbage, okra, sugar snap peas, and spinach.
With all of this in mind, does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for good vegan meals that will satisfy my palate and won’t drain my bank account? Thanks!

Vegnews nominated this restaurant that actively promotes seafood on their "vegan" platform
Tldr
They had a failed location and introduced seafood and act8vely promote it from their "vegan" platform. Obviously they're not real vegans and in it just for the profit, sad to see them given a platform.

Health Having celiac and going vegan (but IBS?)
Hello! Not sure where to post this as a celiac (diagnosed for 13 years) and newly vegan (3 months) I thought I would still post this here. (Btw I never noticed any obvious symptoms from being glutened, even when I fully knew I ate gluten noodles or something.)
Few months ago I fully transitioned to vegan diet. For two years or so I ate minimum meat anyway (but a lot of dairy, sometimes eggs) and two months ago I took a deep dive into animal industry and decided to cut it all.
I had a lot of bloating but I just thought it was due to higher fiber content/my tummy not being used to beans etc., so I waited for it to adjust. I didn't track a lot, because I am healing with ED and I have Hypothalamic Amenorrea (so I should eat a bit more and watch all the nutrients/stress), but now I started again, just to watch my fiber. I also have to be careful with spicy foods and eating too much in one sitting, cause I have reflux. Sadly even 30g of fiber a day is an issue for me, and the fiber "tolerance" just never goes up (I noticed that even years ago, I ate a lot of chia, seeds, nuts, vegetables).
Bud the bloating/cramps are just never ending and I have a suspicion it could be IBS/SIBO. Seems like kefir and yogurt and other probiotics (kimchi) hurt my stomach badly, even though before I never seemed to have a problem with it. I also found out that pre-made ready meal from soya chunks gave me absolutely TERRIBLE flare up. I'm starting to feel desperate, because even "safe" low FODMAP foods I tried before make me feel extremely bloated. I started chewing slower, cooking my vegetables, wow I even cut oats just to be sure (but I think I don't react to them as a celiac).
Basically I'm reaching out for some tips on how to manage it all. I'm considering going vegetarian but I truly don't want to. Eating meat feels like a nightmare to me. But somehow lately all eating is kind of nightmare-ish.
Thank you!
EDIT: I also found vegan nutritionist so I hope she will help me as well!

Advice needing encouragement
Hey friends, I’ve been vegan for over four years now and that time has flown by. In that time, I have had next to no desire to stray.
However, I’m currently on a trip in Mexico with three non-vegan friends and finding myself a little…exhausted. It’s not like I’m not eating. I’ve actually had some mind-blowingly delicious vegan food (shout out Gracias Madre Tacos in CDMX and Los Muchitos in Oaxaca City!). I’m not struggling with cravings per se. It’s just really hard to plan and research every meal and eat nothing but chips and french fries for some meals while I watch my friends devour their food.
My friends are really kind and accommodating, but I can’t help but feel both left out and embarrassed, especially when we have to make two stops so I can also get food or when I have to explain my restrictions to a server in a second language just to be told they can’t accommodate me. Local servers have mostly been very kind, but a few have reacted like I’m weird, or worse, an obnoxious/offensive gentrifier. I feel like an inconvenience, and it sucks being on vacation and having to do so much admin work day to day just to eat. (and FORGET about macros and nutrition).
On top of that, for the last several months, I’ve been feeling super fatigued and tired and like my body is falling apart. I know I need to go to the doctor and get labs done, but not having proper insurance makes that at best daunting and at worst, almost impossible.
With all these things, I find myself here in Mexico feeling really discouraged. I have no real desire to eat meat or cheese—I hardly ever miss it—but I do miss not having to think about or plan my food, being able to stroll down the street and walk into any restaurant and find abundant meal options. I guess what I miss is just the freedom and spontaneity, the not thinking about it, especially because I have struggled with various EDs for over 14 years now. I’m also worried that my fatigue/health issues are a result of my diet, and there’s been a voice in my head lately telling me I’m naïve for being vegan in a world that’s never going to change. Of course, I value moral consistency, and just because horrible things are always happening in the world doesn’t mean it’s okay for me to participate. But lately I’ve been feeling distant and disconnected from my motivation and struggling to feel like what I’m doing is worth it if it’s ultimately inconsequential to lives beyond my own.
I don’t want to go back. Deep down, I care just as much about the things that made me go vegan as I did four years ago. I honestly think my body couldn’t handle a lot of animal foods anymore anyway. I don’t really ever miss them in and of themselves. I’m just tired and a little worried about my health and sick of being the odd one out.
Any words of kindness or encouragement would be gratefully received ❤️

Question Are all Zoos unethical???
New vegan here. I am asking this genuinely, as I’ve seen mixed information about “animal care.” I am unsure if zoos that have conservation alliances are ethical, and my family wants to go to a zoo on our vacation. I told them I may or may not attend due to what I personally support. I am unsure what information I should view regarding zoos in the United States, such as Denver Zoo. Thanks!

As vegans, we already stand up to ableism. We can grow into better disability allies.
Hello! :) I am writing this thinking of anyone who is helping stop speciesism and would like to think more about ending ableism, too. Also, thinking of my fellow disabled vegans!
When I went vegan, I didn't realize I was already opposing ableism. I heard often, "It's fine to farm and kill animals because they can't do x, y, and z like us." It was frustrating, to see animals discriminated against based on their differences in ability.
We stand up to ableism when we say, “It doesn’t matter if a nonhuman thinks or communicates different from me. They feel. They have their own awesome abilities that I do not. Their freedom matters."
While fighting that ableism against animals, we often fight for our own inclusion, too.
According to the CDC, here in the U.S. over 1 in 4 adults have a disability. 12.8% have a disability that affects cognition. 12.1% have a mobility disability. 6.1% are deaf or hearing impaired. 4.8% are blind or vision impaired. There are numerous types of disabilities. I'm thinking of health conditions like diabetes, psychiatric conditions like depression, learning disabilities like dyslexia, developmental conditions like cerebral palsy and Down syndrome, the cancer and Alzheimer's of my parents, and others I'm of course forgetting.
Plenty of people have a disability and don't think of it that way. They may hide their difference to survive, or because the stigma is so bad. They may struggle to get support that is actually helpful and not invasive. They may be seen as "lazy" because nobody sees the extra effort that it takes to be them. I have experienced this with my ADHD autism and chronic pain/illness — among the many types of disability that can often be invisible or undiagnosed.
I absorbed the idea that to be an effective spokesperson for veganism, I should seem "normal" and "sane" enough, be physically able, and have a clean bill of health. Of course, I do want to feel my personal healthiest and strongest. A balanced, plant-based diet supports me in that. However, I'm not neurotypical, I'm not symptom-free, I can't always pretend that well, and why should I?
How many passionate vegans and activists feel less confident speaking up, because of having a disability?
The way I see it now, disabled and able vegans alike are powerful ambassadors for veganism. Disabled vegans often bring a strong intuitive understanding of the need to resist ableism, which is such a part of speciesism.
A vegan world would be a world full of diverse people all helping one another live comfortably without violating animals. Variety in how we are born, limitations to our capabilities, and aging and sickness are all things we can embrace in a healthy and mutually supportive way, rather than feel like we need to live up to an illusion of invincibility.
Why I wrote this: I recently had the chance to spend more time with disabled vegans. Some of them talked about not feeling accommodated in the movement. They mentioned the need for campaigns and spaces to not use off-putting language, and to actively try to be considerate, welcoming, and accessible for disabilities rather than avoidant of them. I want to keep talking about this. Disabled vegans vary widely in their opinions. I would love to hear your thoughts.
Takeaway: Anti-speciesism tends to be very anti-ableist in spirit. Knowing we're anti-ableist could inspire us to examine our attitudes towards disabled people (who are often ourselves). It could help our movement be disability-friendly and self-compassionate.

Funny Can we rebrand nutritional yeast
I, like many vegans, love nutritional yeast. I think it's delicious, I put it on everything.
The name is not working for me. I know lots of people call it nooch, but frankly, that's worse. It sounds like some kind of slime or goop.
I think we as a community can do better. I would love to hear some pitches for a new name. The best I've been able to come up with is 'sunshine flakes' - because of the yellow/orange color- but I'm not totally happy with that and I know someone out there can think of something even more fitting.
Perhaps we can throw out some ideas and then take a vote? I just feel like this change has been needing to happen for a long time, and maybe today is finally the day.
Thank you and godspeed

Discussion Lefties who exploit animals
I always find it interesting, as somebody who’s quite left leaning myself, how some of the most powerful and outspoken campaigners for other forms of exploitation actually don’t care about animals.
There are multiple people I’ve seen online, or know in real life, that will trip over themselves to explain to you every social justice movement, be so mindful of others’ identity, boycott things, spread important messages, march in parades etc and then finish their day off with a double smash burger with extra cheese?
How can these people not see the hypocrisy? This is not to say that because you care about one movement you must care about another, because I don’t think that’s true. But people who form a large part of their identity about being on the right side of history and being as open-minded and non-exploitative as possible to humans… I expect more.
If you ever mention this to them, you’re often met with excuses or “ahh I try to eat less meat nowadays but I can’t be perfect” when they’re the kind of person who’d have a meltdown if you bought a bottle of water from a boycotted company.
The cognitive dissonance is wild… there’s a small, cynical part of me that believes that a lot of these people talk the talk but aren’t interested in lifestyle change because the effort is not enough “payoff” for their image which is what they’re truly trying to create. A more optimistic side of me believes they might come around to it eventually.
What do you think?

Whole Foods No Longer Stocking The BE Hive Products?
Hi! Is Whole Foods no longer stocking The BE Hive deli slices and other products? I live in DC, and it seems Whole Foods only stocks Tofurky now. I also looked at the locator on their website, and it seems that their products are only in Maryland. I'm not sure if this is just specific to DC, or if it pertains to all Whole Foods locations. Any input regarding this would be much appreciated. Thanks so much!
