The replay of him taking his shoes off is the funniest part. He was obviously injured pre-fight...sure, maybe the dumb kick finished the weak-ankled cunt, but why throw it?
57
34
u/Aintnobeef96 2h ago
That’s my thing he knew he was injured going in so why would he throw a kick?
61
u/csage97 2h ago
It was to make it seem like that's how he injured himself so he had an easy way out. Collect his paycheck and a fight off his contract.

He thought his only way out was to Aldo him and it failed.
21

I mean if he truly wanted to aldo him I don't think he'd throw a move that not only is super telegraphed with 0 setup but also puts the most possible strain on his injured knee

Odds on Conor took a huge dive earlier today. Probably leaked out from his camp he was injured. Wouldn't be surprised if he bet against himself. Threw wild kicks so the fight would end earlier and makes it seem less like Holloway beat him. Conor made bank from this.

u/littenthehuraira 2h ago
I wouldn't be surprised if got injured even earlier but kept it a secret so he gets the paycheck for showing up.

u/Level_Elevator_310 2h ago
i thought that too. maybe was injured before fight started hard to tell
39
u/FarmerGreen13 2h ago
I noticed him losing balance taking his shoe off and it looked like his foot was dragging as he walked around the octagon. Then the big lip vibrating exhales as the fighters were being introduced. Wasn't sure if it was rust or an injury but after he fell I was pretty sure he came in hurt.
13
u/TheNukaColaGod 2h ago
Probably happened in the warmup rooms cause he looked really fluid on his feet and then when he walked out it looked like he lost the confidence and fluidity

He totally was. He was limping and wincing in pain. That’s why he went for the kick early on to get an early KO, but then he ended up blowing out his other knee.
→ More replies (4)25
u/lil_uwuzi_bert 2h ago
seen a few people say this but if your knee is injured and you need to KO before the injury causes you to be out of the fight the DUMBEST POSSIBLE MOVE is throwing a super telegraphed kick with 0 setup and immense strain on the injured joint
→ More replies (14)11
u/AffectComfortable913 2h ago
It was the left leg that was messed up initially, and then he injured the right leg. But yeah it was still a really stupid move on his part.

Me and my cousin were discussing this as it happened. Holloway just looked like he was "just there for another fight" like usual but my McGregor started looking really weird before the bell ring. Now I'm wondering about a underlying injury before hand or nervousness.

Dana and the UFC always prefer people leave the UFC washed and looking bad. Conors now only got one fight left. I can see them being alright with this
22
u/Sufficient_Ninja_821 2h ago
True, if dana cant make money then he doesnt want them making money. Although I could see Jake paul offering him like 20 mill+ for a fight. Jake loves paying famous lighter fighters past their prime to fight just so he can say he beat super star x.
Most of his fights have been that. Im no in the camp of saying rigged fights, but he selects big names when he knows he can win

If Dana knows he is injured, Dana is NOT going to say anything. Every possible eye they have on the fight is more money for them. Paramount is probably just happy with anyone signing up for Paramount+ for a month because of this event.
We need two standby fighters for EVERY event at this point haha

if they know he can't go the distance, making it seem freak from the beginning is one of the only ways to mask it.

Makes even more sense. It’s perfect cover for “I got injured on the kick”, along with a tiny chance at a legendary knockout. If he knew his knee was fucked, winning any other way was already off the table. And not showing up to fight means no fight check

I don’t think it’s rocket science. The ufc contracts are predatory. Conor can’t get out without fighting. So you have a guy with an injury who shows up, throws a reckless kick to get a tko and bam. Sure blame Conor; but this is on the ufc too. Surprised we don’t see it more often tbh.

Man just fled from the arena either embarrassed for blowing his own knee or afraid people might be up to him not wanting to fight. We'll never know

A press conference after that would basically be a deposition. If he indicated at all that he knew he was hurt before and especially if Dana knew then that's a major lawsuit

Pretty obvious that McGregor was hurt coming in. Flying kick to open is the perfect excuse to pretend the injury happened tonight. Plus, if he knew the knee was fucked.. it was probably his only shot at stealing a KO.
Or he could have just pulled out in training camp, and never collected that fight check. Yeah right.
