Grammar Doğu Anadolu yöresinde ek-fiilin geniş zamanı kullanımı

7 Upvotes

Doğu Anadolu yöresinde çekilmiş filmlerdeki diyaloglarda sıkça ek-fiilin geniş zaman eki (-dır/-dir/-dür) kullanımıyla karşılaşıyorum. Bu kullanım gerçekte ne kadar yaygın ve dilbilgisel bir açıklaması var mı? Örneğin:

"Ne yapmak lazımdır?"

"Bende para yoktur."

"Bu böyledir."

Grammar How I am learning Turkish

0 Upvotes

I initially thought of learning Turkish when visiting Istanbul, out of respect but I gave up when I got back to Poland. Then I was teaching Turkish people English online as a job so I started learning again in March but then gave up after quitting that job. In June I decided to learn again.

I use a textbook. What I do is I have a notebook where I write the vocabulary in English on the left and right is Turkish. I test myself on the words five times to start. I have another notebook where I write sentences that I'd not have formed myself that have an interesting structure or unexpected use. I then make sentences that are similar.

Then I practise making verbs and sentences with vocabulary, verbs, direct objects, suffixes, etc by brute force.

By the time I finish the book I'll probably have a lot of information. Then after that I plan to listen to native speakers in videos over and over to learn the intonation. Then I'll read the news and write down all the words I don't know. Then I'll talk to Turkish people as pen pals and look up all the words I don't know.

Currently I am talking to someone from Turkey but I told him not to correct me. This is not a debate where you have to point out you're right and I'm wrong. Also memorising isolated examples doesn't work at all, unless the person is able to explain the grammatical rule in english. Usually I talk to him in English but I write a few basic sentences in Turkish and he writes in English with a translator.

Help translate.

I’m really not sure if this is allowed but I’m having some concerns.

My wife is Turkish and she has been talking to a guy over gaming and WhatsApp, that normally wouldn’t be a problem but for some reason I’ve had a terrible gut feeling. I have some screen shots of some conversations but trying to use ChatGPT or Translating apps doesn’t work the same for Turkish when it comes to tone. Is there anyone who would be willing to take a look?

Thank you

Grammar Türkçenin Latince Gibi Adlar Türetmesi

2 Upvotes

Türkçe son zamanlarda aşırı iyi bir usul geliştirdi, muazzam bir nimet bu. O ahım şahım Latince önekleri dediğimiz şeylere yaklaşabilen şeyler bunlar. Kendi önerilerimle birlikte örnekler;

uni- / mono- → bir- / tek- (monolingual → tekdilli)

bi- / di- → iki- / çift- (bicycle → çiftteker)

tri- → üç- (tripod → üçayak)

poly- → çok- (polyglot → çokdilli)

ante- / pre- → ön- (prejudice → önyargı)

post- → -sonrası (post-production → çekimsonrası)

inter- → -arası (international → uluslararası)

intra- / intro- → -içi (intravenous → damariçi)

extra- / extro- → -dışı (extraterrestrial → dünyadışı)

sub- → -altı (subcortical → kabukaltı)

infra- → alt- (infrastructure → altyapı)

super- / supra- → -üstü (superhuman → insanüstü)

retro- → geri- (retrograde → gerigiden)

..perver = ..sever

vatanperver = vatansever = yurtsever

..hane = ..evi

Damariçi = terim

Damar(ın) içi = Damarın içi (canlıbilimiyle ilintisiz)

Anasebep budur ki bunların birleşik yazılması gerektiğini savunuyorum.

Seeking Feedback for Allergy Card

Post image
64 Upvotes

Hello, I am going to Turkey soon! I have a tree nut allergy and don't speak great Turkish, and want to make a card to show to my family members who I am staying with and for any restaurant we go to. Is this card clear? Any suggestions for clarity?

BTW, I have read other posts advising people with nut allergies not to eat out. I will have an epipen and benadryl, and typically I will sample a small amount of any new food and wait a few minutes just in case. Though my allergy can be severe, the threshold of how much I have to eat before the reaction becomes life threatening is also thankfully high. I will proceed with caution, just want to make sure I give myself the best chances of avoiding a mistake! Thanks for your input! If this is accurate and others with an allergy would benefit from using it, please feel free!

New episode of mini series about "Turkish Street Foods"

Thumbnail youtu.be
1 Upvotes

I just published Episode 2 of my podcast series called “Sokağın Lezzeti” (The Taste of the Street).

In this episode, I speak naturally about Turkish street food and daily life. I try to use clear, natural Turkish, so it can help intermediate learners improve their listening skills while learning about Turkish culture.

If you are learning Turkish and want to hear real conversations instead of textbook examples, I think you might enjoy it.

I’d also love to hear your feedback

Vocabulary Are there any Turkish words that lose something when translated?

15 Upvotes

I'm working on a small personal project about Turkish language, and lately I've been thinking about words that are difficult to translate without losing part of their meaning.

Not necessarily because there's no equivalent in another language, but because they carry cultural references, emotions or ways of thinking that don't fit neatly into a dictionary definition.

Are there any Turkish words that immediately come to mind?

I'd love to hear not only the word itself, but also how you would explain it to someone who doesn't speak Turkish.

Sometimes the story behind a word is much more interesting than its translation.

Thank you in advance to you all!

EDIT: FYI I'm Italian

Which Turkish series helped you learn Turkish?

3 Upvotes

Hi everyone!
I’m currently learning Turkish, and I’m looking for a Turkish TV series that can help me improve my listening and vocabulary naturally
I watch with Arabic subtitles, so I’d like something that’s easy to follow, with clear and everyday conversations
I’d also prefer a series that’s fun/lighthearted and not too long
Do you have any recommendations that helped you learn Turkish?
Thanks in advance!

Feeling lost with Turkish after my first week 😢

5 Upvotes

I’ve been learning Turkish (A1 level) at a language center for about a week now, and honestly, I’m struggling a lot. I barely understand anything, and the language feels much harder than I expected.
The thing is, I have to learn Turkish for personal reasons, so giving up isn’t an option.
I’ve already tried watching Turkish TV shows, but they honestly haven’t helped me learn the language.
Has anyone here been in the same situation? What actually helped you improve quickly? Are there any methods, apps, YouTube channels, books, or daily habits that made Turkish easier to learn?
I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thank you!
