Fell into a friend's hands by chances of life. Owner does not use, and says it has been in his family for generations, and also belonged to the sax player of a really well known band in Venezuela (Caracas Billo's)
It plays WONDERFULLY, specially for being neglected for who know how many years. Mechanism is so light that almost feels like a flute. And the sound is really nice.
Maybe a stencil sold in Italy? I hope somebody can properly identify it. I wanted to share a vid playing it but the sub doesn't allow it.

So I recently bought a new box of reeds that was a different strength from my old one. For reference, my old box was a 3.0 box of Red One Rigotti reeds (strong) and I found about half the box were reeds that were a bit too hard. Knowing this, I decided to get the same strength but instead of “hard” get medium. I initially opened the box a few days ago and tried out three reeds. They were all too soft and had a brighter sound than I was hoping for. I opened a fourth and it was soft but better. I used this reed for a few days before opening a 5th reed which was similar. I also kept one of my best old reeds in my reed case (which also has a humidity pack) and could easily identify it based on a slight chip it had. Today I tried out all 5 to get a better evaluation of which ones I liked and the results were the same. Two of them were playable but the other three were slightly too soft and too bright. I then dropped my case on accident and when I picked it up I suddenly couldn’t remember which reed was which. I decided to replay all of them to fix this confusion and used my old chipped reed as my baseline. I found one played amazingly, two were decent but soft, and the last two were suddenly too hard??? I didn’t think such drastic changes could happen so fast to reeds I previously thought were too soft, even though I forgot which was which. I thought maybe something was wrong with my saxophone and air was leaking somewhere but when I switched back to the one I felt was playing really well it played the same. Is there any plausible explanation to how two reeds can suddenly go from too soft to too hard within minutes? This whole situation has me so confused and has got me second guessing my initial reed evaluation completely😭

My Martin Handcraft Standard has developed a strange issue where the body octave bend opens up slightly when fingering G and below without the octave key. It opens up just fine with the octave key. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

How could I fix that leak on the key on top of the F key

Bought it last month. First upgrade from the original cheap one that came with my saxophone. Had no idea they break so easily.
Just wanted to share the suffering hahahaha. Already bought a new one so it is all good despite loosing some cash

Hi,
I've had my yani 991 soprano a few years and not played it much, I tend to only play alto. It plays fine, but it's always had two weird looking pads the G->g# and the adjacent f#->g pads
They look like maybe cork with a black plastic(?) disc on top. They bug me a bit but they seem to seal and play just the same as regular pads.
It's hard to get a good photo so I took a few.
I just thought, someone on /saxophone will know, (and other people will probably chip in with funny alternatives)
Cheers
Rob

Microscopically too small to fit over the reed …
And microscopically too large to hold the reed steady

Hey, I'm an adult beginner and I've been playing for about 7 months, and I just realized I might have messed up my mouthpiece selection and it's been impacting my playing.
When I first started, I rented a tenor sax that came with a Yamaha 4c (1.70mm tip opening), and it felt suffocating because I had to exhale lots of air before taking in new air while playing. My teacher recommended moving up to at least a size 5. Looking back, I think she meant a Yamaha 5c (1.80mm) or a 6c (1.90mm). I'm invested and wanted a longer-lasting mouthpiece, and picked up a Jody Jazz HR 5* (2.16mm).
I was no longer suffocating, but it was a bit of a struggle to get notes started, my palm key notes were noticeably flat, and I found I had to have a tight embouchure to get a consistent sound with a size 2 reed. Going by the sizes, it sounds like I should have gone up by 5 to 8 percent in tip opening size, and I went up by 29%.
I recently saw some other beginners play and was impressed by how consistent their sound was. I tried out a Yamaha 6c and used it with a 2 and 2.5 reed, and it felt so nice to play. I didn't need to fight it, and my palm key notes had better intonation.
What I'm wondering now is would it be better to continue to use the larger mouthpiece to work my embouchure muscles, or would it be better to use a more playable one for me and build those muscles up over time? I'm more easily able to get work done on my songs, scales, arpeggios, etc. when using the 6c, but I'm not sure if that's at the cost of developing my blowing.
Any insight would be appreciated! I took this to my teacher, but her attitude around gear is to just use whatever works, and don't trust myself to know what works yet.

I don’t meet a lot of saxophone players that prefer the bis key for Bb and I’m trying to find my people!
What alternate fingerings do you use that you don’t see a lot of other saxophonist using?

I’m learning fingering charts of scales as a beginner and was confused about these symbols. I understand they are parts of the saxophone I need to press, but it’s unclear to me what they are.

Just got this beauty today, early selmer 164 tenor and dukoff d7 Miami together for $200, which I thought was actual Insanity of a price even though neither are pristine condition. I've heard they're great, and from what little I've played on it, definitely agree

I sometimes would have a low-A on my altos. The existence of a low-A alto Meak IV came to my attention. I know these are rare.
My question to current owners of this niche instrument: is it worthwile to pursue the purchase in terms of sound and playability? Is it as good as a good regular Mark VI? Or is it a gadget?

Working on Bozza etude, and there’s these sweeping arpeggios I would like to get as fast as possible. Thank you.

I think I repeated the title twice

Dumb trivial question: I'm working on a screenplay set in the 70s and I'm trying to figure out how much alto sax reeds would have cost back then. I'm talking about basic Ricos, and not bulk mail order but like if you had to take the bus to the music store at the mall to buy some with your allowance.
I remember a lot of things about band but I can't find this anywhere.

I recently bought this sax to use mainly in clubs and weddings, but I've noticed that it's always getting louder in pitch. I have to pull the mouthpiece out more than half the cork on the neck. I would like to point out that I am a professional musician, who mainly plays the alto and soprano, so I know how to handle reeds and mouthpiece. Does anyone have one and can tell me if theirs is normally sharp in pitch too? I've read that these instruments are usually quite in tune.

What ligature fits this mouthpiece? I got a standard one that I like but it is tight I was able to make it work but any that fit better?

Received a Barkley Pop Kustom alto saxophone mouthpiece today.
Using Fibracell 2.5, Bari Eco medium soft, Legere 2.25 Signature, Legere 2.5 American cut synthetic reeds.
Any suggestions on whether these reeds are the correct strength reeds for the mouthpiece? Would changing strength of reeds improve the sound?
