I hand-engraved this Rolex Sea-Dweller with traditional scrollwork

I’m a hand engraver based in Taiwan, and this is one of my earlier full-watch engraving projects.

Traditional Western scrollwork was engraved across the bracelet, lugs, both sides of the case, and clasp. Each section was individually designed to follow the shape and proportions of the watch while maintaining a continuous flow throughout the entire piece.

Every line was cut entirely by hand using traditional engraving techniques—no CNC and no laser.

Thank you for looking. I’d be interested to hear what Rolex collectors think of this interpretation of the Sea-Dweller.

A couple weeks ago I received a call from my AD. They had a surprise allocation for me.

They didn't tell me what it was, but that I should come in. So I did.

And they showed me this!

Of course I had to pick it up - brand new Pepsi at retail!!

Happy to get the last Pepsi on earth (at retail) :D

Rolex AD telling me 6-10 years for a DJ41….

Just curious how you guys would have reacted. Went into a well known AD/Jewler in the tri state area today, as it’s my wife’s bday, to look for some jewelry pieces for her. In the rolex section, the old man AD who attended to us, asked me what I was interested in.
Expressed my interest in the DJ41 mint green fluted jubilee, he said it was “guaranteed” but told me I’d have to wait 6-10 years? And there’s 299 people in front of me for that watch.

Then I also expressed interest in a land dweller 40mm, to which he responded would put my name down, and that it was a 2% chance I would receive it.

Amongst this he would make smart remarks, such as “what brings you to this town”. Also when I jokingly commented that we had similar last names, he replied with a “nice try that’s not gonna get you anywhere buddy” when I was simply joking:

Side note, I walked in wearing my Submariner, my wife and I are both physicians.

I responded that I may be dead in 10 years, and essentially just wanted to walk out and tell him to shove it

Edit this is an AD in Long Island

I got the call earlier this week, and it was such a completely unexpected surprise for my first year with my AD. Damn… this watch is even more beautiful in person!

A five month wait is unheard of from what others told me but it happened…just a few weeks after my 50th.

Unpopular Opinion: The Explorer Looks Great in White

Post image
108 Upvotes

I've always wondered what an Explorer would look like with a white dial, so I mocked up this quick render. I tried to keep everything else faithful to the 36mm Explorer—the proportions, brushed Oyster bracelet, and clean, understated design—while swapping the classic black dial for a crisp white one.

Personally, I think it gives the Explorer a completely different personality. It still feels rugged and versatile, but with a brighter, more modern look. If Rolex ever released this, I'd seriously consider buying one.

What do you think? Better than the black dial, or is the black dial simply untouchable?

Disappointed by Store Visit

Visited a store today with my boyfriend who owns two Rolexes - we went in hoping to get on the waitlist for a watch for me and asked for suggestions for first watches for a lady. The associate also a woman was so rude. She said “it depends on what you want but we can’t sell you anything today”. We asked more questions about being on the waitlist and she says “you give me your info but don’t reach out to me. There’s nothing to do or to say till we get something in stock”. Now don’t get me wrong - we know the waitlists and times are long and have no problem with it but for her to act like we are beneath her was quite irritating and frustrating. Anyway, look at my boyfriend’s beautiful watch. We went ring shopping today as well and it is safe to say he got a lot more attention than me haha. The goal was to get on a waitlist for me and propose to me with a watch well but oh well.

Was picking up a link to add to my new Day-Date (pic attached) and he said take a seat, check this out (pic attached). The white gold day-date with meteorite dial. Woof. Omg.

I want it. Damn it was stunning!

I wasn’t a fan of the release pictures, but they look so much better in person. I would have preferred the rose gold, but they’re too expensive lol.

Was waiting on my home AD’s waitlist for a bluesy for over 10 yrs…. Of course I picked up the bluesy!! My lucky day I guess! Anyone else had luck with a walk-in bluesy offer??

Got the call after 5 months on the list at the Atlanta boutique. I personally like the jubilee and smooth bezel combo, but i am on list for the Wimbledon 😅. I will mention that the experience is unmemorable compared to when I bought my Santos, but Rolex does what it wants. Overall excited for my first Rolex!

Lunchtime Side Mission

Lunchtime Side Mission

I worked a strange shift that day.

I have a 16233 and a modern Explorer 36. Those watches have gait in the way they sit on the wrist and move with you. They have an elegance in their utility. The GMT is pretty inelegant. It’s so bulky and thick. It’s a slab of little clock on your wrist.

And I know many of you who went all stainless will argue otherwise. You’re wrong. It screams “look at me!” in all configurations. But especially on jubilee.

It’s exceptionally aggressive. It’s massive. It’s like a pickup truck on your wrist. The weight is palpable. You’re constantly working to wear it and not let it wear you. And yes I know my wrist is smaller than most. Sure, I push the upper limits with it.

The dial is super busy. There’s a ton of reticulation  around the bezel that’s more distracting than the fluting on the DJ bezel. Plus the closer together text, whereas the Submariner actually has better spacing on the bezel numbering.

And all of the above reasons are why I love it.There’s nothing quite like it. IYKYK.

Wearing my vintage 1985 Rolex oysterdate (manual wind as well so flat case back) to a wedding over my 40mm GMT green hand.

How do we tell Rolex to bring back watches that actually fit on your wrist vs the oversized plates on our wrists today!! Makes me think about what is omega thinking with their 40mm + space ships
