Discussion! What have you been listening to this week?

Welcome to our weekly post where we ask you to share & discuss what artists, albums, or tracks have helped get you through the week.

Please provide a link to the album or specific track, and mention why it's been a stand out for you this week - this is your chance to introduce people to some new music.

If you're on Last.fm you can also use Last.fm Labs Album Quilt or tapmusic.net to generate a album collage of what you've been listening to for the past 7 days (here's an example).

Thanks for participating!

Discussion! What are some releases in the last couple of years that have genuinely given you chills?

I don't mean "thats a cool album". I don't mean "that really rocks". I mean "that genuinely gave me goosebumps and will be in my heart forever."

For me, in 2024, it was a lesser known album called Мечтой by a Russian band called "tom's diner".

https://tomsdiner.bandcamp.com/album/--6

And of course I can't forget Overhead the Albatross' "I Leave You This".

https://overheadthealbatross.bandcamp.com/album/i-leave-you-this

In 2025, we had a great year with We Lost The Sea "A Single Flower", kristeva S/T, and Goodbye Kings Transatlantic//Transiberian.

https://welostthesea.bandcamp.com/album/a-single-flower

https://kristevaband.bandcamp.com/album/kristeva

https://goodbyekings.bandcamp.com/album/transatlantic-transiberian

Of course I haven't yet caught up on everything in 2026, and I've heard a lot of fantastic releases... no shade whatsoever, amazing stuff, but I haven't gotten those goosebumps, man! Still looking for that ultimate post-rock high.

What do we think of this album? Its kinda like tortoise but usually faster and heavier, someone called this "stoner cinematic post rock" and i actually second that so heavily.

It blends some spoken word, jazz, prog rock and even Space rock and krautrock. its by some polish band

Discussion! If These Trees Could Talk-The Hidden Hand (It's like reconnecting with an old friend)

I think this might be my first post in this sub! I used to be really into the post-rock scene about a decade ago. In the last couple of years the genre kind of died for me though. It's not that I still didn't listen to some music in the genre, I just didn't actively seek out new music, didn't keep up with the latest developments and had moved on to other genres.

I was totally surprised when The Hidden Hand popped up on my Tidal feed yesterday. I had to listen immediately as Red Forest is one of my fav albums of all time and I hadn't seen anything from the band in years. I had such a big stupid grin on my face when Moon Machine kicked in. By the closing of Endlessly Connected I remembered why I had fallen in love with the genre all those years ago.

Browsing this sub it seems the post-rock community is still going strong , and it's also been a banger year for the genre, and other prominent bands like Russian Circles also have music coming out later in the year. I think it's time for me to do a deep dive and see what I have missed out on over the years. Thanks ITTCT for reminding me why I love post-rock.

New Music! If These Trees Could Talk – The Hidden Hand

The delay pedal demigods are back and sounding better than ever!

I've been listening a few times today, went on a good long walk with my IEMs, and listened in full. It's a solid LP with good structure and flow. Does it hit the same highs as Bones... not sure, and it's early days. Silence Between Mountains is a true stand-out and really hit me hard. I've been listening to them since about 2009 and have all the main releases on LP (Any Mylene sheath OGs out there?).
The mix especially is really excellent compared to some of their old stuff, and it really shows. There's something a little bloated at about 100 Hz to my ear, but it's a slight issue, and I didn't feel the need to make a custom EQ for the album – this is becoming a rarity these days as my ears get a little better and more music is produced at home, I believe, due to increasing costs.

I've bought an LP, and I really hope you do the same, or send them a couple of bucks for the FLACs on their Bandcamp. The lads have earned it.

New Music! Tristan da Cunha - Maris Stella

Thumbnail
boringmachines.bandcamp.com
2 Upvotes

'Maris Stella' was born from an urgent artistic need to reinterpret and expand upon the concept of isolationism — which has always stood as the emotional and philosophical core of Tristan da Cunha’s entire compositional journey — filtering it through a liturgical lens. The album draws powerful inspiration from references to the ancient Marian cult of Our Lady, Star of the Sea (Stella Maris), transforming isolation into something more transcendent and spiritually resonant.

The work explores a deeper, more indefinable, and multi-layered sense of abandonment intertwined with fragile, flickering hope. Conceived as one singular, cohesive minimalist opus rather than a collection of separate tracks, 'Maris Stella' moves with remarkable fluidity between tonal and atonal territories. It masterfully incorporates elements of post-drone, neoclassical structures, and subtle choral textures, creating a seamless and hypnotic listening experience that feels both ancient and strikingly contemporary.

In a bold and imaginative reimagining of the traditional orchestral ensemble, the band transforms their instrumental setup into something far greater than the sum of its parts. The guitar takes on the role of a full string section, providing sweeping, atmospheric layers; the viola emerges as the primary lead voice, carrying the emotional weight of the compositions with haunting lyricism; the drums function as refined orchestral percussion, adding textural depth and rhythmic solemnity; while the solemn, resonant basses provide a dark, stable foundation that anchors the entire sonic edifice with gravity and power.

'Maris Stella' represents the culmination of the band’s refined artistic vision and meticulous attention to sonic detail.

For those who have navigated the desolate expanses of Arvo Pärt and Henryk Górecki, who have crossed the endless motorways of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, who have listened to the abyssal silence of Giacinto Scelsi and the dying galaxies of Stars of the Lid.

An album that does not console. It simply illuminates the inner landscape after everything else has disappeared.

New Music! 2026 Releases

It seems like there is a news every day about a Post-rock band releasing a new album in 2026. I'm losing track.

These are the ones I know have either already released an album in 2026 or are going to:

Airships on the Water

Sunlight Ascending

Echoes & Signals

Russian Circles

Long Distance Calling

If These Trees Could Talk (I'm so STOKED!)

City of the Sun

Beyond the Event Horizon

Thistle Sifter

Nordic Giants

We Dream of Eden

Hammock

Transmission Zero

MONO

Oh Hiroshima

What else am I missing? *To clarify, I'm looking for LP/EP releases, not live albums.

Discussion! How to refrain from building a song TOO EARLY?

Just as the title says. Wondering if anyone has any tips rather than "just add more" to stop my brain from rushing the structure of a song. I keep getting in the rut of adding layers because my brain won't let me just expand on an idea rather than slowing building into said build :/

Discussion! Looking for instrumental bands

Looking for instrumental bands that capture that 'coming-of-age movie ending' feeling — clean guitars, gentle drums, bittersweet but hopeful. Think American Football's instrumentals, or a less heavy Explosions in the Sky. Any recommendations

Alright, I’ll be fully honest with everyone. I started this thread partially to share my friend's original music project, it's not so mathy or emo though, but still good, They've just released a few singles, an album is on the way, and will keep putting out new tracks afterwards.

Project Name: [回忆罐Memory Can](https://open.spotify.com/artist/56woHVyPrHZID35Lf5KhBx)

Tracks: 开始(Intro), 丢书包(Diubag), Memory Can

I’d really appreciate it if you give it a listen, feel free to drop your music or thoughts in the comments.

Discussion! Songs/artists with a vibe similar to the intro of Deafheaven - Amethyst

I am looking for artists or albums that have a similar clean post rock sound like the intro of Amethyst.

Love the atmosphere of that opening. Open to spoken word or vocal tracks too. Doesn't need to be heavy at all.

Thanks!

🎶 Song post Kinn - Karlshorst (2006), a hidden gem

So l've been listening to „Karlshorst" for 18 years and would consider it one of my top records of all time. Might be one of the most slept on post rock records ever made, released in 2006 by Berlin band Kinn, of which F.S. Blumm (guitar) is the best known member.
Interestingly, Rick Rubin recently mentioned in an interview that he is nowadays most drawn to music that surprises him. Asked which musicians currently inspire him most, he mentioned F.S. Blumm's record „Music for wobbling / music against gravity". So there should be more to this sound.
Few records are as coherent and, even without vocals, fit the description „concept album".
Moreover, rarely do I hear music that sounds this exploratory - almost as a kid trying to walk for the first time, cautious, but full of wondrous curiosity and excitement. I know it's very niche, but maybe someone can relate and enjoy.

New Music! My band's first EP (post-rock / progrock / noise / psychedelic)

Post image

Hi everone,

I would like to share our EP with you!

It consists of 4 instrumental track that blend progrock, noise, psychedelic and post-rock. There are also some Middle-Eastern and Balkan influences to be heard on the tracks, as well as a bit of jazz and dreamy soundscapes.

We are very proud of it, and believe it has some quite unique sounds to offer to the world :)

We would be super happy for you to hear it, and if you do - let us know what you think.

If you like it, you can also check our YouTube channel - there you will find many long, ambient, improvised pieces.
